Bunkai is not fixed. Everyone can interpret the application as they like.
Higaonnas is very basic, and has almost no application in real world scenarios - they are just the art side of karate.
Other goju organizations will interpret as they like, also individual practitioners should do the same.
I really hope karate moves away from cringe like this.
It looks bad, benefits from it are negligible at best meaning you could be spending time training in methods that are more effective
It'd probably look better if the concept of "Uke", training partner, included a resistant opponent. Just sucks that the actual effectiveness of the techniques are lost in translation when you're trying not to, for example, break your partner's nose.
This is just a demonstration of very light or no contact. Not sure what's wrong with that.
@@kbanghart Nothing wrong with light contact. This *is* bunkai we're talking about--throws, locks, breaks a-plenty. Just not very appealing to the people who get an impression of functional karate, and don't understand the stepping stones
@@kbanghart the lightness, however, includes an element of compliance and cooperation. Muay thai people spar really2 light but you dont see it as one person trying all his things on another. Same with bjj light rolls, usually with older instructors. I mean do you see older boxers, kickboxers, MT guys do this?
@@nathantheophilus4856 no idea, I mean I watch all kinds of different things on TH-cam but I'm certainly no expert at any of it, so.... Anyway, the sensei i currently train under most often is in his 60s and we do light contact, though he has done plenty of heavier contact in his younger days. Also we have no set rule, as you get higher in the color belts we do more contact, etc. But bc our style is shorin-ryu, we work a lot on how punches and kicks translate to steps, sweeps, brings, etc.
