It was much like a jail when I was there...3 men to a cell with a community latrine down the hall. The outside wall of the room was single pane windows all the way across. ( A snowblower wiped out the 1st floor of Transpo barracks.) Heat loss was so bad they cranked up the heat and we were not allowed to open the windows in the winter. The dorm was a freezer in the summer. Nothing like a summer cold to make your stay at Minot more pleasant. We had a public phone in a closet mid hallway.
I'm not sure how old the structure is. It was remodeled in '93, and a lot of the missile guys were living 2-3 to a house in base housing, or in the 5th Trans dorm during the remodel. They are indeed co-ed. Bathrooms are in between rooms, so 2 rooms have 1 common bathroom. Some guys pulled the beds into one room and made one sleep room, and made the extra room a media/hangout room. Some rooms were backed up against storage/laundry, and had their own bathroom.
HIS OWN ROOM???? How old is that dorm? Are these the same dorms we had in '70, just rehabbed? What are they, co-ed? You've got a bathroom, a sink, a phone, and a girl in your room. I might have reupped if I'd had those luxuries. I was in 91st Civil Engineers dorm 207 next to the base theater. We had a Captain who rode a bicycle to the office in the winter. He would bathe at the sink in the men's room every morning. Not a pretty sight.
It all depends. Do you know what his job is and what unit he's assigned to? If he's part of the 91st Missile Wing, he'll likely have his own room. Vallin Hall, the Missile Wing dormitory, is single occupancy, at least it was when I was there. I doubt it has changed. I forfeited my room on base, received BAQ(basic allowance for quarters) and rented an apartment in Minot most of the time I was up there, however.

My son left today for Minot. He'll have his own room??? If so, that's great! He'll be so happy if that's true!
