In the lion king game you mentioned they purposely made the monkey maze level stupidly difficult to combat the rental market, Disney had a rule back then to make their games nearly impossible to clear in just a couple sittings, they were trying to force you to actually purchase the game from them in order to beat it.
Andrew Also, if you play well enough, you'll notice most of those old games are kinda short, but they're so difficult they seem way longer than they are :) I suppose they also made them hard so that you wouldn't notice how short they were

The squid section was the squids mating with the podobos. becoming a podobo is a dominant trait which is why you saw all those podobos for such a long time. Overtime the 2nd gen podobos produce bloopers because it is a recessive trait.

Well, MM8 is the one from PS1, right? People are divided about that one but there are always someone talking about it when the MM discussion comes up. The sixth I have played a lot and I liked some differences from the others that came before it, like the Beat bird and the Rush adaptors, but thats it... nothing new. A good game, just not a fresh one.
In the fourth game, you have:
- A new Villain;
- Two Castles;
- A plot twist rather than having Willy transformed into a alien hologram;
- The introduction of Mega Buster;
- Second longest MM game in the NES series (first being MM5);
- A slightly more mature plot line;
- The aforementioned boss fight theme which sounds different, more sober, anxious and puts a proper tension for a big battle ahead.
For me MM4 is the best game of the series hands down in almost every aspect...
...most people prefer MM2 or 3 but after a quarter of century playing MM2 and 3, I am really tired of speed running them, but I cannot say the same to MM4, which I still love and enjoy to this day.

Whenever Carl uploads a new video that doesn't feature extremely hard kaizo/puzzle levels, I pause the video whenever the code for a level he's about to play is on screen, and play it before resuming the video. Carl's awesome personality makes it worthwhile to watch the video even after I already played the levels, and I get to guess how Carl will react to each part of a level.

I've actually used that mole-spring combo in one of my levels for a boss fight! It's really funny 'cause the player just comes in, expects a standard fight against a mole, and then it jumps up in a totally unexpected way and it's awesome.

Lion King on SNES was awesome. And you're right, it was crazy hard. I don't think I ever made it past young Simba.
That Megaman level was amazing! The beginning really looked like the Metalman stage from MM2.
The monkey level in the Lion King Genesis game was so fun!! I always get stuck on the Elephant Graveyard though.

It took me a little while to figure out it was the leekspin song. Lately I've been thinking about how many references will be completely outdated in a short span of time. It's kinda trippy. But, what with things named after popular characters like Pikachurin and Sonic Hedgehog, I guess those at least won't ever fade completely.

the mega man level actually has a bunch of references to the mega man games! the first section is a collection of sections from metal man's stage from mega man 2, the section with the hyperspeed spike tops seems to be based on the fireballs from fire man's level in mega man 1 (though there are a lot of enemies that pop up from pits like that throughout the series), the section with the bouncing pow blocks are a reference to the series' infamous disappearing yoku blocks, and the boss song is a somewhat rough recreation of the boss theme from mega man 4

@Carl For "Hey Baby" it looks like when a wiggler is on a conveyer it moves all of the body rather than just the pieces that are touching. So, when their head falls first their butt is left to be able to create that madness.
