How to Read the Volume off a Burette

In this chemistry tutorial video, we describe the correct way one would read the volume off a burette using the graduation lines that appear on a burette. This video follows the video titled “How to Prepare a Burette for a Titration”. This video is Part 4 of 5 that describes the method on how to prepare and perform titration experiments.

What if I drain the burrete completely and fill again? With a burrete that measures 0(at top) to 100ml(final marking) above the valve, is the measurement stopped at 100ml? Or is the burrete completely drained and that equals 100ml down to the last drop?

The measurement is stopped at the 100ml line. So in order to have correct data, you would have to stop the titration process at the 100ml mark and refill it at that mark. Otherwise you would have added a certain volume of fluid to the beaker or whatever you use below the burette.

it's a science thing. We should always have uncertainties at the end of our measurements to account for the limitations of the instrument and the experimenter.
