- Legendary test-pilots Dieter Thomas and Patrick Experton demonstrate the superior capabilities and trainer potential of the twin-engine Alpha Jet designed and built by Dornier of Germany and Dassault/Breguet of France. Also featuring top American test-pilots Tom Morgenfeld and Brad Spahr. The film took 1st Place in Advertising/Sales at the Indy Film Awards in NYC in 1981. Narrated by Art Balinger. Written by Paul Norton and Steve Myers. Directed, filmed and edited by Erik Friedl.
Superb aircraft. I saw an engine change for real when a visiting Alpha sucked in a bird. the mechs had the old engine out in 20 minutes from a standing start and the aircraft was back online in an hour.
My grandfather (Patrick Experton) is one of those test pilots in the video !

You're right, Ruben--the Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet and the Argentine Pampa III made by FAdeA are close cousins. Unfortunately, in 1981 the U.S. Navy selected the single-engine British Aerospace Hawk over the superior two-engine Alpha Jet as the new trainer aircraft for Navy pilots. McDonnell Douglas was the manufacturer of the new version of the Hawk which became known as the T-45 Goshawk. No doubt politics and the Reagan-Thatcher relationship at the time played some part in the decision.

@@rubengutierrez4022 Understood and thanks for the quick reply outlining the differences between the two jets. So the Pampa III is essentially more compact, single-engine and has straight wings instead of "swept" wings--still a very cool design. Hopefully, the Guatemalan contract from 2019 for two of your trainer jets will still go through!
