I starting surfing in 1963 at the age of 17. My favorite board back then was a 9 foot 10 inch long Hobie. Too bad the surf at this contest wasn't a little bigger. The contestants are doing a great job with what they've got to work with. Thanks for keeping longboarding alive.

I don't understand why everyone gets so pissy about whether you ride a shortboard or a longboard. As far as visuals go, I much prefer watching shortboard comps, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate longboarder contest. They are two totally different art forms and totally different styles. If you like shorties, ride them. If you prefer a 9' log, ride it, just shut the hell up about it and enjoy the ocean.
