Open world obsession: Are lengthy games losing their appeal?
Is the open-world obsession taking its toll on long-running video game series? We explore...
Since the early days of the computer age, video game designers have relied on open-worlds to captivate players and keep them hooked for hours on end. But is the open-world obsession taking its toll? Are series like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout losing their edge because they're becoming too lengthy? We explore this question and more in this episode of Open world obsession.

Since we live in a world of DLC's the original game should be no longer that 10 hours and if they wanna add another storyline to the game why not sell it as a DLC.
Honestly i luv open world games. I enjoy looking for secrets and the exploration.

    Not for me.
If i'm going to be paying the obscene price some games are asking for then I want 50+ hours out of it.
I have missed out on some games people class as great because I refuse to pay £60+ for games under 20 hours. I'll have them finished in a couple of days and never touch them again, they are a waste of my money.

I gotta admit, i do fear playing newer games because i dont want to be committed to a lengthy game. Unless of course I know from the start what im getting myself into like TotK. As far as a decent length for a newer game (for me) is around the 9hr mark give or take. Kinda like a first playthrough of Metroid Dread would be. Other than that this is why I end up playing more retro or modern retro-like games. Short, fun games that are worthwhile.

Same here I have been enjoyishorter games with good stories, I dont have the time that I use to... so im not able to invest hundreds of hour in just one game.

I definitely think some games drag on much to long. I recently played Dead Space 1 & 2 as well as Extraction and Mobile, all around 6 to 9 hours and all linear and I had such a blast and could play each game in 2 sittings I replayed each on hard. I am now playingthe remake. And while I like open world games and have plenty of time to play, im a 32 year old business owner with no kids and a wife, I NEED a linear game from time to time

For me, yes. My favourite games now are ones that can be beaten in 1 sitting.
Yoooooo, I LOOOOOVE Moonscars. I have a review of it on my channel if you're interested. It also took top spit on my Game Pass hidden gems video. Game is so sick.
