First off, I'm not sure I've ever seen another good Chicago commercial video, so thanks for posting it. Plenty good enough for a 6th grader.
It's neat to see the sort of standard commercial bin size in various different areas. Much of Europe having settled on the 1100L bin, 3yds slant front load here in Los Angeles, tall Dempster 8yds in New Orleans, the 2yd RL bins here in your vid, etc. Like everywhere else the equipment sort of adapts to the rest of the system. In Chicago's case Quik-Tips and Arlocks, big 2R hoppers, and what particularly stands out to me as a massive fucking win, one piece lids. The two non steering casters too, all catered to one man operation.
Also being from the South, I'm most curious about how collection is handled in the snow. I imagine that's much of the impetus behind the 2yd size, good luck pushing anything bigger through snow/over ice/whatever. Guessing collection is contractually contingent on "clear, safe access to containers" or something.
3:40 is another nice feature of rear load commercial. In my front load experience bulk becomes a time consuming and dangerous affair, between jockeying the pallets, couch, or oversized cardboard box on the forks, actually dumping it in the hopper, and often climbing onto the cab shield if not into the hopper to actually get the thing to pack. If you've got an empty bin nearby it can make things easier, but loading height is still a problem, and it's easy to break a windshield. Those awkward long ass pallets are nothing for a 2R or even a standard mid-compaction rear loader with the right technique.
The Arlock (like 95% sure it's an Arlock) equipped old MR was great. Cool for the same reasons as a F7000 or worn out cart tipper is, all the extra bits on the hopper for a bit more rattling and slamming. Especially the compactor receiver at the end. The way they mounted the cart tipper is awesome, there's no compromise in dump height or depth unlike those derpy low profile Baynes Heil likes to use on their commercial setups. The hopper extension is the big advantage over the Quik-Tip, low for manual loading. The Colorado boys would do well to take notes on both counts. I keep re-watching. Great vid.

Great video!! Chicago sure is an interesting place to film, so glad you caught these! Definitely interesting to see these without quick-tips, since a bulk of Lakeshore’s fleet has them. Thanks for the mention too, and I was very excited to see this pop up in my feed!

This is so cool! I always love seeing downtown Chicago footage, but it’s so hard to come by. So many places with like 10 RL containers that go so frequently. Also really enjoyed seeing the Mack/Leaches, definitely one of the best combos out there imo.

Nice video Will!!! I love the old rear loaders in Chicago area, wish there was more footage of them around. The MR/Leach 2RII combo is definitely the iconic Chicago truck imo, especially when they're on a shorter chassis. QwikTip sure seems like a good system, bet they sell well in Chicago area.

Thanks Aaron! I also agree with that! I Honestly don't see why QwikTips arent more popular
