The greatest thing I have learned is about God's grace. Grace has been my chain breaker for living under the law, to break free of trying to earn God's love and my salvation. Praise God in all His glory for bringing me through and into my new relationship with Him ❤❤❤❤
Don't you just LOVE ❤ these chats David brings - they do cause one to tap the brakes, pause, look around, assess, and reflect - David is a positive influence to bring about lasting change in Christ
Sounds odd to hear, "Before Paul became a Christian...." for the man who wrote two thirds of the New Testament. Beautiful devotion. Thank you Pastor Dave.
A little child may be fascinated by a gas stove with fire, but that doesn't mean you do not stop him or her, from reaching his hand forward to burn himself, and so it is - when God says No it is for another day, when He says now in His plan for you, you can ENJOY - the YES, God is good, when ... you get to know Him
Today we have many Calvinist Baptist folk trying to preach and live a life of austere holiness that they cannot meet, much less those 90% who do not read their Bible consistently. Such hypocrisy is often seen in the many falls of supposedly "giant men of faith" only to have a ridiculing anti-Christian society point a finger and say look, see, told you so. Jesus said, there is no one perfect but one. Yes we ought to strive for perfection, but not demand or expect it 100% for when we do, we often find failure, demise and depression. That said, thank God for no one can separate us from His love for us, and that GRACE is available for those embarrassing or shame filled times we fall. Jesus showed mercy, love and compassion for sinners, people who didn't like him, we ought to learn from that example to emulate and walk in such grace, with patience and enduarance.
As a young boy in Catholic school among Jewish Little Leaguers instead of the gospel being preached, what was lauded and hoarded was a life of dedication, celibacy, and pristine commitment, discipline, a lot like Saul later Paul was subjected to. In many ways the guilt passed on in these institutions were similar to the oppressive 613 rules made out of the 10 commandments. What I can say about that looking back from such experiences, is when you say like in the Garden - Don't, one feels as the devil would lie to Eve - not pointing out God is protecting you - one feels cheated, and in that sense of injustice, one wants revenge, and in that psychological philosophical stance one then wants to usurp (rob, steal) authority that isn't theirs to have or give, so one becomes disobedient, and trespasses, and transgresses the laws and edicts of God, saying I don't need this, I can do better on my own thinking. So when you tell a Catholic girl or boy, No the 1st thing they will do, is Yes, Yes, and Yes. This is why we are called "depraved" even without Satanic influence, on our own, we would do evil, we would choose to rebel, we would in essence take what God made as good, and pervert it to be bad. There is no hope for those who are hopeless, but the ones and few who do have faith, who do believe in the hope of the resurrection, a new citizenship, a new life, an eternal life, are those who believe in the one who has been there, and done that, Jesus Christ. I hope this helps the many who have ever struggled in their life of guilt and being shamed, because that is not God's will for His children. It is his kind mercy and grace, that brings us to repentance. It is His compassion to help us in the time of need when we were helpless to step up and stand out, in Him. Resign your old self, Jesus will give you a new robe in life to put on. God bless those who do believe and begin to walk in faith with Him.
You said, "oppressive 613 rules made out of the 10 commandments." Your statement does not line up with scripture. Be very careful for James says, "James 3:1 Do not become teachers in large numbers, my brothers, since you know that we who are teachers will incur a stricter judgment." Paul had this to say about the Law. *Romans 7:12 So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.* *Romans 3:31Do we then nullify the Law through faith? Far from it! On the contrary, we establish the Law.* *1 Corinthians 5:8 Therefore let’s celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.* John had this to say about the Law. *1 John 2:4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;* *1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.* *Revelation 14:12 Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.* Messiah had this to say about the Law. *Matthew 5:17 “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19 Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.* *Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness.’" It is interesting that Messiah tells us to keep the Law at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount and at the end of that sermon, He gives a warning to those who do not keep the Law. He tells them to depart from Him for He never knew them. No one will get into heaven simply by calling Him Lord.
AMEN!! A self absorbed pentacoscal pastor did my daughter in and turned her away from the Lord Jesus by doing just that!! Was saying we here don't, don't don't, it's in our laws to join, and if you do.. They're are consequences!!!!! I tried to tell her that was basically heresy. But through a series of events and incidents, after hearing that and them treating my daughter and family badly along with favoritism of other people not even acknowledging her in passing at the local grocer... She literally denounced the Lord verbally aloud and went on a rip tear .. I'm mortified, and I've tried talking to her and leading her back. She's not having it. I don't know what to do. I want to talk to him basically tear into him and tell him what he's done, but I don't know that it's my place. What would you say about this?? Legalism kills
*Colossians 2:20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, 21 “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!” 22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)-in accordance with the commandments and teachings of man? 23 These are matters which do have the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and humility and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.* These verses are not about legalism. They are about "elementary principles of the world" and "commandments and teachings of man." But somehow, you have come to the erroneous conclusion that the "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch" is about God's commandments. How can anyone equate God's commandments with "commandments and teachings of man?" They are not and never will be the same. Therefore something else is being spoken against in these verses. Since it is "commandments and teachings of man", some person or group of persons infiltrated the church and gave their own restriction on what someone could not do. Certainly these verses do not say not to keep God's Laws. For God, Messiah, John, Paul, Peter and many others tell us to keep God's Law. After all, God's Law is to be written on every believer's heart so they can keep it. And Messiah gave a stern warning to those who say they are believers but do not keep God's Law in Matthew 7:21-23. *Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness.’* It is clear that when Messiah says, "leave Me, you who practice lawlessness", He is referring to those who do not keep God's Law aka the Law of Moses.
