Decided to study some LaFaro today in honor of what would have been his 85th birthday. His work in the Bill Evans Trio was some of the first music that inspired me to pick up the double bass.

Scott's playing on this record is a thing of wonder. He swings so hard. And we was like 22. Whoa. Great video.

RIP Scott Lafaro Born April 3, 1936 - July 6, 1961. He was 25 years old killed in car accident, he died too soon 😭. I just discovered him today, he was amazing!!

I first heard of Scott LaFaro from his work w/Bill Evans. Blew my mind.

Incredible video and lesson. However it's really frustrating that there are few if any shots of the right hand. That's 50% of what's going on there.

Oh OK sorry they finally show the right hand during the trio part. Sorry! Amazing playing!

Just viewed this today, the day after the 86th anniversary of Scott LaFaro’s birthday 3 April 1936. Very happy to listen to your excellent performance. Will share with Helene LaFaro-Fernandez, Scotty’s sister. (I assisted Helene with her memoir of her brother: Jade Visions the Life and Music of Scott LaFaro (Univ of North Texas Press 2009)
Who are the other members of the trio?

Who's the 8-ball that downvoted this? It seems there's a joker in every deck!

Hello John. I really enjoed your lesson.
2 questions for you. Your double bass has a fantastic sound,is it an ancient instrument?
I am studying Parker's omnibook with my double bass but at very slow time, so I'm afraid practice won't help. In other words, it is useful to study Au privave sixteenth notes with slow time and then to try to make it faster?
    What do you think about?
    Thank you.

HI Gianni, John isn't available here to answer questions, but I can tell you that the bass he was using was mine and it's a German instrument which is about 100 years old. It has Spriocore weich strings on which John also uses on one of his personal instruments.
