Mike, the positioning of the vent is absolutely spot on. The only thing from me on a note, for "best efficency" "best aero" etc. When venting out of the radiator you need to try and make sure that the exit just like the inlet needs to be smaller than the radiator itself. In fluid dynamics terms it makes the air speed up as it exits the vent. Now in real world terms and how you have designed yours, please be aware this is just from seeing in video over real life. The main benefit is from the front scoop which is spot on. I absolutely love watching your videos and how you have progressed. It has definitely helped me in motorvation for my project so thank you for your time and effort put into this. Along with keeping It real, the day to day struggles of a project, but also with voicing the take home factor of the struggles.
Mr. Mike, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my and others comments on the front end aero subject. Speaking for myself, please take my comments only as a sign of the deserved enthusiasm that I have for your work and this project. It's all quite brilliant and a personal work of art. Thank you very much for sharing this experience with us all.
Your take on gated shifters is 100% spot on 😅. I bet most of the people that are so enamored with them have never had to drive a car that had one (and I don't mean a modern marvel like an early R8). They get googly eyes from the image/clout/status of the expensive car it's bolted to and the "clink clink" noises... but never have to experience when the linkage starts to wear (which will happen early and often in an old Italian car!) and the linkage becomes ever so slightly misaligned, and now you can't pick *ANY* gear without unscrewing the panel to remove the gate until you have time to adjust the linkage or order new bushes/parts (and again since it's an old Italian car, the wait time on parts will be anywhere from 1 month to "🤷♂" ). On a car with a shift boot, 1-2mm of misalignment in the gate is something you'd almost never notice. On a gated shifter, you get blocked by a literal steel plate. This brings me to another advantage of the K-swap in a Ferrari: you'll be able to shift into 2nd without having to wait until 5-10 minutes into the drive 🤣
The pacing of the episodes is just fine Mike. The wiring harness setup was interesting to watch as was the new shifter base fab. I do like the GTO front bumper, which will look good on the finished car.

Great video, lots of experience here in building race cars, at a glance your front heat exchanger (radiator) looks to be quite sufficient combining it with the twin fans for your application. Adding a slight lip at the leading edge of your hood vent will help in increasing negative pressure to aid in exhausting the heated air especially at speeds over 50+ mph. Not sure what your splitter design is yet but using it to balance captured air is a great way to "tune" the systems effectiveness. BTY, love the fact you're not cutting corners on your system components!
I know it was just a mock-up of the shifter so I'm not worried but if you haven't used them yet you should look into Nord Lock washers. I have never had a bolt loosen up when using them.
I mean you have access to amir so I wouldn't really worry about TH-cam comments. The duct looked fine, the only suggestion I had was the fence in front of it and you mentioned that here so good to go!
When filming Magnum PI the producers modified the seat to thin the foam and lower it as much as possible to better fit Tom Selleck in. Also you will note that they never really filmed with the targa roof on because his head was always clear of the roofline. Yes the 308 is a tight fit but angling the seat back makes a big difference and you are on the right path. Regarding the shifter, I think when you get in the car that you will find it to be too far from your hand and that the shifting will not feel natural. Have a look at some rally car images and you will see that the shifter is normally just clear of your knuckles on the steering wheel. The shifter will need to be biased more towards the driver to get an optimum driving position. Luckily this can all be easily tuned on the fly with minimal effort.
Gurney flap, Kick up, those were the words I couldn't figure out when I made my suggestion in the previous video. Nice that you want to add this detail on the hood, it can help the flow.
Kyle Tucker built brackets for his 3rd Gen Camaro that mate to the seats using quick-release pins. The hole/fastener clearances must be tight but it can be done with a reamer.
I have a great idea of what you can do with that shifter and its clunky old linkages etc, SELL IT and put put the money back in the project! Someone who has a romantic idea of its Worth could pay you big bucks for it and the money they pay you for it could help offset some of the cost of this project. Great video, keep up the hard work. Shame about having to send that part back for repair but at least it was not a total financial loss, Fedex delivery drivers be so careful with our packages and all. I cant wait to see you get this thing back from paint. It will be great to see it all one colour.
This reminds me of when I wanted to buy a Ducati Monster 1100 Evo when they were new. I went to the show room all excited and threw my leg over one. Then realised very quickly they are made for Italians and not people who are 6'2".

Great video as always! You definitely seem to be enjoying yourself more with the extra day between episodes. I think it's giving more balance to each episode as the time between each is more comparable. I only brought up CFD analysis in my comment on the last video just because it's what I'd do in your scenario; mostly because it's about two hours of my time to do so. I'm sure you're design will be just fine! I just like knowing I'm getting a great design without potentially putting material into the bin later on. I’ve got a gated shifter on my desk at work. Almost every car guy that sees it has to mess with it. Hell of a paperweight!
Bolt the original shifter to the wall, wire it in as a massive light switch : D
a year is almost up since the series started, twice a week I have looked forward this kind of content. great work, all the best
I do not know but I like how the white is placed on the yellow, the white fenders and the white template
Use the gated shifter for when you have something like a hydraulic press. That can be the actuator.
Definitely worth the wait.
Use the gated shifter as wire hanger on your welder
I think you're bang on the money with your work , ferrari had a sweet looking car hiding a dogs dinner !
This reminds me of when I wanted to buy a Ducati Monster 1100 Evo when they were new. I went to the show room all excited and threw my leg over one. Then realised very quickly they are made for Italians and not people who are 6'2".
Zagato got around helmet room by moulding in roof bubbles 😜
I was thinking the same, hope Mike keeps a note of your comment Matt to give consideration to before the paint goes down.
@@KT-ur7pi could look quite cool I think. A lot of work to get right though I’d imagine
@@155andRising he doesn't seem to be shy of 'a lot of work' and imho it would add to over all uniqueness of the car given the bitchin body kit and of course the word that makes my eyebrows rise everytime I hear it Zagato! 😃
The idea is fun, but no way I’m adding a bubble to the roof haha
@@stanceworks you’ll just have to shave your ass so you sit lower then 😂😂😂
I use a canon ip8720 for printing out templates, it does 13x19 borderless. Its a great printer and not that pricey.
As such it's always my recommendation as I've personally seen it save myself some stress over the years.
Can't wait until I get my workspace all setup at my own house here in a few months though. Your videos always have me itching to get building. I gotta finishing remodeling the place first though! Maybe in a few months.
A neat thing you can do with the gated shifter is to sell it and use the money on something modern to increase the technology used in the build.
Regarding the gated shifter, I completely agree with everything you said. But damn, it looks good in a Ferrari! I’m sure you can sell it for big bucks.
