SKIATHOS 2019 - LOWEST LANDING EVER? The EUROPEAN ST. MAARTEN (4K)

- Skiathos Airport or as many of us aviation enthusiasts call it "the european St Maarten" is one of the craziest airports in europe. Airplanes land and depart right behind a small road and the airport of Skiathos became one of the main tourist attractions of the greek island. Low landings and jetblasts can be observed on a daily basis and last week we filmed an incredible low British Airways Embraer E190 landing. The people who were watching the planes were pushed from the wall by the wake turbulence of the Embraer.
We visited Skiathos for the fourth time in four years cause it` s one of the most amazing places worldwide if you are interested in aviation and spectacular approaches. Somtimes, when the weather is good up to 100 people show up behind the runway to watch the planes land and depart.
The biggest airplane which is allowed to land at the airport is a Boeing 757. That` s why you won` t see any Boeing 747`s or Airbus A330` s land on this island. That` s the main advantage of Maho Beach in St Maarten, but in my opinion the planes in Skiathos land even lower than at SXM.

The principles are fairly straightforward, actually. Flat sheet of 5mm insulation foam will create enough lift to sustain itself if you move it by hand in the air, but these aircraft are marvel of reliable engineering. I can't even think what can be achieved in several hundred years. Although at this point it is an evolution rather than revolution. The same applies to cars or rockets.

Wow! There is some strange fascination for me and watching planes land and takeoff. This video is incredible, can you imagine being a person on the ground, standing there whilst these beautiful metal birds zoom over your head? This has to go onto my bucket list. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
I was there yesterday witnessing this. My wife fell because of the jets power and my phone almost blew off my hands. Crazy cool to stand under!

Typical 737 landing speed is 150-165 miles per hour. So when you are close, it is fast! 😊

I'm a FedEx worker and work in the middle of an active airport. Earplugs are a must, I strongly recommend that these people look into that before they cause permanent damage to their hearing. We even have to take annual hearing tests to make sure our shit isn't fucked up too bad.
Wear a earbuds or a headphones, everything will be ok.
Amazing to think of those aircraft wheels going from 0 to over 150 MPH in an instant as they touch the tarmac...
Feel sorry for the flies that landed on those wheels 5 seconds before they hit the ground.

I just flew to Skiathos this year! I flew with Condor this summer vacation.
This runway is insane. Its great when a plane takes off while you cling on to the barrier and the blast from the engines sweeps your feet off the ground.

I was there (the one in the white shirt near the tripod). I was too focused on taking pictures so I didn't realised at all how low BA approach was. Half an hour later one guy told me about it, and I was like "When? Really? Jesus!" xD

some things aren't meant to be questioned, they are just to be done.
Was maybe going for a really smooth landing. Coming in a bit low gives you more distance for a gentle touchdown without eating away the calculated landing distance. That or maybe show off for the people watching.
Shouldn’t plan to use a runway if the calculations don’t show that you’ll stop within the standard margins, unless you have no other option. Available distance in calculations usually assume touchdown at the white marks (about where the second plane landed), so it’s unlikely he did this for any legitimate performance reasons.

Majority of aircrafts A320, B737 or smaller. Only B757 landing at 6:10.

That BA E190 came in way too low. He literally touched down at the edge of the runway. You can see the skid marks from where aircraft usually touch down, and he was WELL ahead of that

I been to Skiathos twice for holidays, and been to St. Maarten a few times as part of cruises
Absolutely insane. I remember Skiathos from 1970, when it was a delightful little island and Koukounaries beach had nothing on it but pine trees. [begins swearing; feels nauseated]

I think most of the turists go there just to see the planes landing over their heads. That's increasing the turism economy, and the airlines economy. Good job

That BA Embraer was ridiculous, The pilot got that very, very wrong, no need to come in that low, Look at where the touchdown zone is and where even the bigger planes are touching down, an embraer can afford to go longer than that yet the BA pilot barely even made the runway!, very dangerous. Albeit cool to watch and cool to catch!.
Any lower and there would've been a crash.
@@onemoremisfit Correct. Somebody needs to remind them that they are a commercial pilot that needs to operate with a big margin for error, and they're not a stunt pilot. The fact they were so low and so far short makes me feel only luck avoided a crash, not judgement.
