  • Sunday 28 July 2019. Kentmere is a beautiful part of the Lakes. Well, that's if the visibility is there and you can actually see in front of you! We'd planned a camping trip, and then we'd cancelled a camping trip due to heavy rainfall on the Saturday in favour of driving up on the Sunday despite an equally biblical forecast, but the rain was nowhere to be seen, when was it going to show up?

Morning Adam great videos! I’ve entered for the kentmere race with 2 of my friends in November. Hope the weather is forgiving on us! This will be our first fell race and can’t wait.
Ive walked kentmere horseshoe before the scenery is unreal!

Thank you very much for your video, Adam. Today I recced this fell race for the first time. The weather for absolute rubbish for visibility. So I am glad I can see what it is supposed to be like on your video.

Nice video. I’ve not tried any fell races, but I intend to next year. Any recommendations for something in the Lakes for a first timer?

Callum Coogan I live in Leeds which is at least a two hour drive from the lakes so I only do slightly longer ones up there to justify the drive time, there are shorter ones all around and the best way to find out about them is on the fellrunner website x

Lords Seat at the start of May is definitely the best first-timer one. Latrigg is good too, but it’s really steep and a really fast decent, but would be my second choice. There’s a winter Latrigg race at the end of February which is a bit easier so if you wanted to get going earlier then that one would be best.

Do one of the Kendal Winter League races. Well marked and well attended. 1pm every Sunday until start of April.

Dunnerdale in November and Nine Standards (North Pennines) in January are very stable underfoot and easy to navigate.

By the way, on our way back, we met a solo runner with an interesting Sottish name also from Leeds. He also did the recce. Are they thinking of doing it in September this year?
