Hi, My name's Rob. I am from Goskate.com and today I'm going to teach you how to skateboard. Before you learn how to skateboard, you first want to look at the bolt. This bolt in the center of the skateboard dictates how much you are able to turn. Once you have fixed this bolt, you are ready to learn how to push on a skateboard. This starts with learning the proper foot placement.

Soooo im learning how to skate and is it petty for me to not want to screw up the knees in my skinny jeans?Ive just been wearing older pairs til i get the hang of it
It just feels sooo weird to skateboard, because i'm used to riding my bike, and i'm holding on to something. But when I try to skate, it just feels really weird, and I loose my balance real quick. Can someone help me with this problem?

Great video and all.I am learning to skateboard and figured I would learn to skateboard backwards since everyone else seems to skate forward.Im getting pretty good but I am hoping to find others who skateboard backwards as well.

I'm a girl and I know how to ride a turn but I don't know how to brake so I just step off and let it go or I crash HOW DO I STOP?!
you can put your back foot on the ground and have it drag to slow you down. That is the easiest way I've heard of.

or use your back foot to put weight on the tail to lift up the front while your front foot is still on the board and it will come to a halt(might not be a very gradual stop though)

This happens always, a skateboard will never completely follow a straight direction because of the weight dispersion on it.. but it will help to have tighter trucks, as it controls it, but cannot completely stop it.. Experiment with them for tightness and looseness, according to your comfort.

cont. Or you can get hard wheels which go faster on smooth ground but slower if its rough. Hard wheels are better for tricks though. Soft wheels are from 78a - 85a durometer and meduim wheels are about 90a - 95a durometer hard wheels are about 98a - 103a the numbers refer to hardness rating. There is also a B scale like bones STFs are 83b which is = to 103a Setups are kind of expensive but you can always get blank decks and mini logo trucks i hear they are cheap and good. good luck.
Well, at first, I found it quite hard to balance while pushing. Top Tip: Learn to stop before trying to go very fast, as you WILL have a massive scar on your arm from having to bail when going strait into a car...Also I coulden't find the confidence to change my foot placement, so my front foot was always in push position. But once you gget the hang of it you will be able to skate around town like a pro and laugh in those skinnyboarders faces!!!! lol Since my bday I've ONLY learnt to acid drop.
I had a skating instructor and I used to what you do( Put my front foot on the top 3 bolts) until he said im doing it wrong, he said my front foot should be on all 4 bolts and when gathering up some speed my toes should be pointing fowards and when i put finish gathering speed both sets of toes on my feet face the side 90 degrees or 270 degrees, depending if i'm regular or goofy respectively, now im confused i dont know which skating stance is the right one :s
When I push back with my foot to gain speed, I move forward but then I start veering/leaning to the right/left. If you have this problem I suspect it's that I'm leaning my upper body either to the left/right of the skateboard too much, or that my foot isn't swiping the ground in a straight line (meaning that I'm my push foot isn't moving back and forth parallel to my skateboard)
One thing to add is that when you lean on the board to turn, the looser the trucks are, the more your board will turn when you lean forward or backward. On the contrary, the tighter they are, the less of a turn it will make so you will have to lift the board to turn yourself.

Haha I've always found it relaxing. People used to skateboard next door to me as a baby. It became so relaxing I fell asleep whenever I heard them skateboarding. xD I`m kind of weird.
It's like studying for a test I get it all when I watch it as soon as it comes to doing it I'm lost sadly I may have to get one of my guy friends to help me :(

Im new to this. Like new new. Skateboarding looks so fun and I want to skate so bad! :( So Im going to ask my family if they will get me a skateboard for Christmas! Then I'll skate in the spring and stuff :) What's a good skateboard? How can I know whats a good skateboard?

it took me almost 5 years to have tre flips every try put your back foot in the side pocket and scoop it like a 3 shuv and flick the kickflip only a little bit and it will spin you just have to practice every day and you will see progress watch out for primo with tre flips tho -_-
Maybe the rubber thing called the bushing is making it. In that case, loosen the nut on top of it a bit. NEVER tighten it. The bushing could get dented and you'd have to buy a whole new skateboard. Also, when you skate forward it could be that you're leaning to much one way.

Hey, its super easy actually. Get a popsicle shaped board about 7.75 - 8 inches wide is good to start off with. Then get trucks to match the width of the board. that is super important that your trucks are the right width for your board. Then you will need bearings, hardware and wheels. Bearings you can get any bearings and same with hardware. With wheels it's a little more complex, you can get soft wheels which makes just riding around a cruising super fun because it smooths out the bumps.
Hell yeah,man!I almost broke my left wrist after going down one hell of a steep hill...I was lucky.Only felt pain for like a week or two.I was on vacation so I didnt go out to skate with my buddies,they were in the province.It was kinda boring so I just let my lazy ass sweat at the high temperatures of the bulgarian sea shore.But tomorrow I'm gonna go skate with 'em.The only thing I'm good at,is pushing the board and falling.Oh and uh...happy birthday,man!Nice age to start shreddin'!
lol I saw this video like 3 times, then a few days later I bought a skate board, I forgot a lot of things, had my feet together, or at the tail, fell on my arse three times, practiced in an alley for about 20 min, sorta got the hang of it, but fell the third time there =P, guys don't ever put your foot on the tail, it will hurt a lot, btw I tried to turn, and I fell, gonna practice tomorow though!
I felt that way when I first started to skate back when I was 14. I didn't know what the hell I was doing and could only ride (barely) and do a very bad-looking ollie. I got frustrated that I sucked and quit. Now I'm 27 and have recently decided to start skating again to become more physically active. Yeah, I feel self-conscious, but so what? My advice is to find an area where nobody is and do it alone there. Like an empty street. Hell, I practice my balance and footwork in my kitchen.
My 8 & 14 yr old wants skateboards for Christmas. My 8 yr old still cannot ride a bike (we're working on it) yet. I'm against the gift idea only because of the bike thing, my 14 yr old is quite tall & possibly not very athletic.
Do you have any suggestions for very very very beginners? Types of boards or places to start? If we get them skateboards they'll be watching these tutorials, LOL!
Question beginner here. ordered a pre-build Darkstar board.. the trucks were very loose, would grind on the board when I leaned.. but when I tighten the bolts down the bushings pop out and the trucks lean to one side and cause the board to favor one side.. for instance when i push it he goes to the left instead of straight... also sometimes on level ground only three wheels are on the ground one wheel is a little of the ground. What should I do?

Good Job for going for it and getting back up after falling. And it is okay to put your back foot on the tail just like the dude in the video says balance your weight out and don't throw it back keep it over your front foot. if you don't get used to having your foot on the tail you won't be able to do many tricks!
Bro I turned 18 in July and I feel great. Older and more mature man. Don't matter on the age. Matters on he attitude. Sure you see 7 year old ride a skateboard. I see everyone age in my area riding a board. Gets me hyped. So go learn how to skate. It's fun. Since July I can do a solid Ollie and just cruising and ride. :D #JUSTDOIT
I'm still trying to learn, I can push off okay, but i have trouble putting my pushing foot back on the board properly. My toes are always off the edge, resulting in me leaning to the side a little which makes me skate to the right. Do I try and put my foot a litlle farther back? Because I feel like falling when I do..

Well im a girl and im the head cheerleader at my school. I just bought a new skateboard last week. I got mine at sports authority. Im honestly a skater it runs in my blood, my family skateboards, surf & all that crazy stuff but you should get one it is REEAALY fun!!!!!!
It depends on you're trucks some trucks just suck and they are really hard to balance on, if you wanna learn how to skate get trucks that has resistance so you can turn whenever you want to and it is easier to balance on. i recommend independent trucks or element

Yo skateboarding may be hard at first, but once you trust your body to be stable enough and have good balance, you got it. I couldn't even stand on a skateboard. 1 day later I can gather speed, stand on it, go down hills. Moral, anyone can skate.
first you have to learn how to fall correctly. dont want to break a bone. have you been relaxing you legs and bending your knees. or maybe your trucks are too loose. that was my mistake when i very first started. dont tense up. i'm a female rider too.

I was taught to position your front foot parallel to the board, touching the top two bolts and then after kicking off, pivot the foot to be perpendicular. What is the advantage of doing it the 3/4 bolt way in this video?
What if my trucks are super tight, but my board still leans a lot bc I’m fat?
You wanna gently push one of your feet to the ground. Or push the back of the board down so it touches the ground.
OK so I tried using a skate board and mostly all I do with it is go to slopes and sit on my skate board and WOAH! also I try string to it and my dad pulls me. I have more uses more a skate board
I need more practice and my friend Neil is good of teaching me. We need Skate Parks here in Ohio and that way we can skateboard there instead of not on the streets, sidewalks and buildings.

If youre scared to fall dont skate, im a beginner too started 2 days ago and i really SUCK but getting hurt is a part of skating just accept it. you'll learn wht the time
you need to have balance, in between the board to be able to skate just foward, make sure that your feet are not to one side of the board.
