    I need to do this on my polo. Just ordered the part. Not looking forward to shredding my hands but you've saved me ££££ not going to a mechanic! Thank you

    Just did this replacement on my sons VW Polo. Fiddly as anything trying getting the resistor back into place. 20 mins later and much scratching of hands on the trim around the slot had me hating VW! Good Vid explaining how though Phil Billy. Thanks

    Just done this job, but what a nightmare fitting the new resistorpack. Cut my hands to shreds trying to get the new unit to rotate back that 1/4 turn, lethal, raw metal edges everywhere. Eventually managed to tap it round using a large screwdriver. Thank god the fan's now working as it should.

    • @ThePhilBilly
      @ThePhilBilly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh tell me about it! You cant do it without shredding your hands!

    Thanks for this. Couple of things - if you cannot get the electronic gizmo off of the back of the glove box you can just about stand it on its edge whilst you work on the resistor. I found it so much easier to put the new resistor in without it being plugged in. You can then turn the resistor to about 9pm (compared to vertical) to engage the two slots (top and bottom of the resistor when it is locked, so 6pm and 12pm) and then twist it clockwise back to that 12pm position.

      Thank you so much for your comment - I was getting so frustrated and wound up trying to get the resistor screwed back in with the wires connected. Once I saw your comment, I took the wires out and managed to get it screwed in fairly quickly. Seeing your comment probably saved me a small fortune by taking it to the garage, so thank you so much!

    My XL mitts made this REALLY hard, especially tightening the new 1 in.
    Resorted to bending the metal bracket out the way and putting a little silicone grease around the lip, after trying everything that could be remotely useful in my toolbox, and nearly an hour of trying 🤬
    On an extended note. Wife (her car), only told me the fan wasn't working the other day, saying that for about the last year it had worked only on 4 🤦🏻
    The old resistor pack was rusty AF, but still no fans when it got the new 1 in.
    Any know if its likely to be the motor or the switch that's gone (hopefully not both)?

    If struggling to get your big mitts in past the metal bracket....just bend it upwards to give better access...then bend it back when done.
    It's the bracket that secures the back of the glove box.

    Good day, great video. I’ve bought a new resistor and installed but the same issue is evident (air only comes out on 3) - could there be any further problem besides the resistor? Thank you very much 🙏

    • @ThePhilBilly

      Good day sir , I’m just coming back to let you know that the problem was the switch as you said. I’ve replaced it and it works perfectly on 1,2,3and4😃 Leaving the new resistor in as well. I would have never had found the problem so I’m deeply grateful for your advice. THANK YOU🙏 🙏

    Mines just went but works on setting three and four. 2014 Polo.. happened at same time as petrol light went on so thought it might be something to do with low fuel but release that's just stupid

    Hi - I did this today, and it worked great. Only problem now is that the airbag light is on - any idea why this might be?

    • @ThePhilBilly
      @ThePhilBilly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can id get it on a scanner, it might be you just caught a wire or it could be sometime completely unrelated and its just unlucky!

    • @jonathanatkinson5256
      @jonathanatkinson5256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThePhilBilly I think it is because I tested that the new resistor worked when the airbag was still disconnected, and so it registered an error. I should have waited until it was all back together before turning the ignition on.

    08/03/24 - Great instructional, thanks. Managed to get the glove compartment + autochanger out with much snozzwangling (God knows about getting it back in) and can just see and get fingers on the resistor pack but cannot ease it out of place, even levering it with a thin bladed screwdriver. Really stuck now - any ideas, please? I have a metal trim removal tool - might that help? Thanks a lot.

    • @ThePhilBilly
      @ThePhilBilly  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think persistence is the best option, just keep wiggling and trying, they can be tight and awkward but it should just pop out. Have you trying turning it a few times incase it's just stuck

      @@ThePhilBilly Thanks again. I managed to lever it loose, although it felt as though something cracked. I had to stop trying to get it out as it was knackering me. My wife managed to extricate it with her nimble fingers and I got the new pack onto the cable, with difficulty. Herself popped it back in place, but it did not twist and lock, but the cable is so stiff it can't move. Tested and it works. Great. Got glove compartment back in with two screws left over and the dash end trim cover won't quite sit down properly. My wife drives the car and she's not bothered. Job done, but wishing it had gone a bit better.. £49.63 for the resistor pack from Car Parts Direct, ouch. VAG parts are pricey.

    Hello, I have the same polo but with the clima control unit. My issue is that is starts blowing, then it stops when I change the speed, then I have to play around with the speed levels so it starts again. Do you think it's from the same thing?

    Hi, does it matter if the resistor is secured in the hole, my one sits inside of the hole, but can wiggle around if you move it. Think the hole itself is damaged
