- “Natural Farming” provides rich harvests “without plowing and fertilizer,” using “grass and insects as allies.” Yoshikazu Kawaguchi from Nara, Japan, has been practicing this farming method for 40 years. The method is attracting attention as a sustainable agriculture, because crops can be cultivated without bringing in fertilizers and pesticides from outside the field. This 12-minute video summarizes what Natural Farming is and how it evolved. I made it so more people can discover the possibilities of Natural Farming.
Why have you not mentioned anything about Masanobu Fukuoka San as he was the original founder of natural farming. I think he also deserves to be acknowledged.
From my understanding natural farming practices were already a thing, he merely combined methods to form his own system.

@@lewissmart7915 Nature farming is NOT "Fukuoka Natural Farming". Nature farming is more like organic farming: "Non-Johrei farmers are carefully making note of the sustained and drastically higher productivity of natural agriculture. In Okada's own words, "...As the term implies, Nature Farming uses no animal or artificial fertilizers whatsoever, only compost made up of the dead leaves and grass that collect over the course of time. Whereas compost occurs naturally, nature does not provide, from the sky or from within the soil, manure or synthetic fertilizers. Such deliberately-produced soil additives cannot possibly be considered completely natural."
Nature farming is about how to use composted grass and tree leaves to grow vegetables and flowers. It is totally different from Fukuoka natural farming which rejects composting. The random seeding using seed balls allows vegetables to grow naturally competing with other plants without adding any compost to the soil. Natural farming builds soil naturally allowing everything to grow strong, not just vegetables and flowers.

btw, ada yter dr indonesia yang magang pertanian di jepang, tapi ternyata tetap pakai pupuk dan herbisida kimia hampir 100 persen

@@nadiauv7835 kebun besar atau kebun kecil semua bisa..yg penting variasi tanaman...natural farming tidak menanam satu macam tanaman dalam satu lahan, baik lahan besar ataupun kecil..jadi perkebunan nanas atau tebu dalam satu lahan yg luas bukan merupakan metode natural farming ! Untuk Indonesia, saat ini ukuran kemajuan bangsa masih mengandalkan pertumbuhan ekonomi, bukan pertumbuhan kebahagiaan masyrakatnya...bukannya kwalitas, tapi kwantitas yg diutamakan ...maka dari itu di indonesia masih sulit untuk menerapkan natural farming..(iki jare tonggoku, lho)

I'll use his style next year. I plant small summer garden this year and did not spray bugs killer but my soil is all clay I added some composted manure, will reduce that next summer. Will grow winter cover crops in the bed this winter and use that biomas as ferlizer, mulch in the spring and summer. Hope my clay improves a bit for next summer tomatoes. Vegetables. Etc. His method looks promising and healthy.

I would like to move from the USA to Japan, some day. And have a garden. Maybe a BIG garden--- a permaculture food forest! And share the food with the local community.

Does somebody know how Yoshikazu grow oats and barley? I can see from the video that he doesn't use clay balls for the rice, but does he use it for the other grains? Does he also use clover together with the grains?

sir i am from india . first of all i am sorry beacause my english not good but sir i think you understand me and reply me about my problem . sir my problem is i love natural farming because it's the truth of our life . i knew this before 5 months when i saw masanobu fukuoka in TH-cam doing natural farming. first i was think is it true . sir in our village all people doing farming with till the soil with tracktor and ploughing and then planting . if i telling him about natural farming people laghing at me. they told me that without tilling the soil , with weeds farming is not possible . but i don't agree with them . i am starting natural farming in a small area to see that plant grow or not . i put the seed without weeding without ploughing into the soil and other people doing ploughing with tractor and then planting .and give chemical fertilizers . i am waiting for results . everytime my mind say it's not grow but still i wait for the result . and the result is disturb my mind . after one and half month i saw that my plant not growth but those peoples plant well growth . i am feeling very sad and searching what the problem in my cultivation . when masanobu fukuoka doing farming with weeds and no ploughing why my farming not success , what the reason . is that my soil not good or anything else sir please please please reply me i request you . i love natural farming 🙏

Ecosystem means interaction between different organisms. For every insect pest there is a natural enemy predator . If u stop spraying pesticides they will live nd kill the pest. Same with the fungus

Fukuoka's way of growing rice is better. He didn't plant rice seedlings. He flooded the field of clover cover crop and just sow rice seeds directly in the fields. Rice is highly flood tolerant. The flood water also protects the rice grains and seedlings from being eating by pests and rodents. The flood water kills the clover cover crop naturally.

For some reason this may not work out much in all countries or tropics where it may be very hot mosttimes of the year.. The pest infestation does not reduce but it just not seen

Actually Fukuoka works a lot less- he just throws out seedballs twice a year and alternates rice with barley.
