My family is from northern Minnesota and as I kid we took frequent trips to Thunder Bay. I haven't been back since 1971, but it still feels very familiar.
For a few hours in the afternoon/evening it's much busier, this area gets pretty busy when there is a festival or concert at the waterfront. TB is car dependent outside this area, so people drive out to the big stores(or drive out to the woods), rather than walking around the north core. Our city is about as big as Winnipeg, but with 7 times less people. Or about 10x less population density of a european city(eg. Nijmegen).
They really messed up the "downtowns". Thunder Bay used to be two cities, each with its own downtown core, Port Arthur on the hilly part where this walk starts and Fort William to the south/west on the flat part along the Kaministikwa river delta. Then, I think even before the two cities joined under the single name Thunder Bay, the "intercity area" started developing with enclosed mall and big box stores to serve both city centers. So in the end there is this relatively small city with locals each trying to be a city center. West/Fort William has town hall and air port. Center/Intercity has big mall and big box stores, East/Port Arthur has University and Provincial Government buildings.
@@lvfreeAdventures before covid-19 hit there was more people walking around there. I've got a favorite pizza place around that area too called Stan's.
It's not usually that dead, but it can be. But even at it's most busy, it's not usually too overcrowded. Thunder Bay is a very large city in area, but with a very small and sparse population.
a lot of these areas (more this part of town) tend be filled with a lot of drug deals, gangs, etc. Its normally more busy during the afternoon and not on monday (which is when this was filmed.) As a resident of TB the city is super underwhelming and filled with crime
Think that perhaps not only was it a Monday...but maybe August long weekend Monday?? Perhaps in the morning so all the homeless, or drug addicted persons are still sleeping and the majority of residents home or out camping and fishing
Thunder Bay? You filmed one part of Thunder Bay and make it sound like you walked the whole city. You didn’t even bother going to the south side of the city. Next time, how about filming the whole city?
You know local people work during the day in thunder bay eh? Might sound strange to some that People go to bars and restaurants in the evening when there's no work.

You are right, not much has chanced here in the last 50 years.
Thank you for your nice video! Great walking tour!
Nice walk and beautiful vedio.
My future destination

@@HBKCommish It says in the video it's a Monday. Everything downtown is closed Monday.

@@Bowsile Oh, I didn't know about that.
Is it historically like this or was in the past Thunder Bay a better place?
one day I will also reach here from India

Any reason why the streets are so empty and deserted?
And why is it so empty? 😉
Everyone’s broke
There's hardly ever much foot traffic here
Thanks, we were just couple days in city and were wondering if it is always like this...

I’m glad to see you made it out of here! This city has become a cesspool of degenerates.
