Jon lord has injured himself/retired and blackmore became a loony and left to play medeival music in german castles, you have here steve morse qand Don Airey two of the best at what they do and great assets to the band saw tham at the apollo last week still awesome after all these years,,,good job lads!
Unbelievable at his age! Love the 1970 UK studio version, but this is outstanding at his age. Go, Gillan!! So glad Gillan, Glover, and Paice "got back together." Those final screams - unbelievable after all those years! Love you!
Jon lord classical inlayes, blackmores great guitar licks, plus ian gillans amazing falsetto notes and paiceys, glover rhythm makes this song unique, still after 52 years and incredible sound and masterpiece, also the morse, airey generation doing its best to perform this enormous hard rock/ early metal classic. Thanks to the mark2 line up its timeless and runs minst one time per day in my car and 🏡.
Pessoal: apesar da ajudazinha do Morse, ainda é Ian Gilan, e, acima de tudo, ainda é Deep Purple... E viva os maiores de todos os tempos, pois o que há de melhor aos poucos está morrendo...
The comments often refer to the famous high notes of Child in Time. On TH-cam, many singers cover this song and take pride in hitting the higher notes. But they don't understand that the most important is not to hit these notes (many men and of course women can do it) but to hit them with the force, the emotion, the intensity that Ian Gillan had in the 70s. I never heard anyone else able do it.
I don't understand hate on Steve...I think that he is one of the best integration of one musician in the band and it's greatness such as Deep Purple. Cheers to all fans..
...So dont blame them in a way that this is not deep purple naymore. Their music has changed, They have all changed and the band has changed through the years. They still make me fligh like a fireball...Especially on concert...
Great performance, similar to the 1994/95 performances of the song, with Satriani and later Steve. Not like in the 70's, or 80's for that matter, but still nice to see they performed this song in more recent years. It's an epic piece of work...'Child In Time'...one of their best. Don Airey did a great job on the keys, and Morse is great as always...no Blackmore or Satriani of course, but still I love his work with DP. 5 stars!!!
the keyboarde is don airey who was with withesnake before he became a member of deep purple.the guitarist's name is steve morse who came after 1994 blackmore's leaving and the short time when joe satriani was purple's guitarist.
Ian is still singing good for a guy on his age.Let some nowday rockstars sing this song live i don't think there are to many who can sing this song better then Ian Maybe Dc Cooper can do it!!
In 2003 I saw them in Rome, but they didn't play child in time, maybe because Gillan couldn't reach those notes... too bad they didn't come 1 year before... Anyway that was a great concert and they played along with Lynyrd Skynyrd
Still hitting the the high notes? No Gillan actiually stops at the second of three levels and let the guitar du the rest. BUT!!! this is brilliant and exactly what he and RB should have done already 25 years ago imho. It´s so good to hear him sing this masterpiece again. It´s music' not a circus act !
Wow. Gillan could still belt this out at @ 58 years of age. I may appreciate Morse's technique here, but I miss the emotional beauty of Blackmore's version.
@hrodberht80 Ian Gillan is still one of the best singer in the world. Sing for over 40 years at his level, drink and smoke as he has done, and then try to sing as he can today, then you can criticize him.
They need a singer who can actually sing and a guitarist who can play rock instead of country jazz or whatever it is. Then it will be worth listening too again.
that is true, but glenn hughes is old and he was drugd all the time during the 70's and he still sings like he's 20...just listen concert in moscow,it's somewhere on youtube
@jblk212 Ah, sorry. I do not dispute that Gillan is a very gifted, amazing singer - one of my top favorite vocalists, (not like it matters). The loss of his upper register is very sad, though. He can still kind of hit stuff in the higher range, it's just so much weaker now.
lets face it, as we get older we cant do things as well as when we were younger, they played a guitar in a higher octave than gillian's voice to cover up, that he can't go as high as necessary. It's understandable though, he's getting old, he just cant do it as well anymore
Yeah it's a shame but with how hard he used to belt it out it's to be expected.....still a lot better than a lot of the older guys. ...but yeah, album version.
This is such a great song. I really love it! There´s a cover version, only on acoustic guitar, of Soldier of fortune on You Tube. Lars Fischer - Soldier of fortune. I think it´s well done! By the way, it´s a great song, like many, many songs of Deep Purple.
can you use dots and commas once in a while? new kids on the block are touring at the moment and playing in front of millions too, and they will be remembered too by those millions. so i guess that is quality too, following your theory. the present deep purple is all nostalgia for the deaf who force themselves to hear things which arent there.... ;)
This is who all rock bands want to be when they grow up.
The best song ,all over the world !!!!
... almost, short before Second Life Syndrome, in one line with July Morning, but behind Awaken ...
@@tomschmidt4355 Those are great songs but do not match to Child in Time.
SO TRUE!!!! 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Even after all these years he can still hit those highest notes, that eerie wail that seems to seep straight from his soul, bravo.
Ian Gillan man...leaves me speechless everytime i hear his voice, be it on a studio record or live..
Jon lord has injured himself/retired and blackmore became a loony and left to play medeival music in german castles,
you have here steve morse qand Don Airey two of the best at what they do and great assets to the band saw tham at the apollo last week still awesome after all these years,,,good job lads!
In the 57 years Gillan has sung this song perfectly well, not everyone will sing as even in the 20 or 30!
Even at this age he still hits the highest notes, that eerie wail that seems to come straight from his soul.
Unbelievable at his age! Love the 1970 UK studio version, but this is outstanding at his age. Go, Gillan!!
So glad Gillan, Glover, and Paice "got back together."

surprisly very good singing from Gillan.
He is 60 and He could not do best than this.
He is not 20 but the chamistry is all there...
Unbelievable at his age! Love the 1970 UK studio version, but this is outstanding at his age. Go, Gillan!!
Pessoal: apesar da ajudazinha do Morse, ainda é Ian Gilan, e, acima de tudo, ainda é Deep Purple... E viva os maiores de todos os tempos, pois o que há de melhor aos poucos está morrendo...
Fantastic song, stuning voice!!! Ian Gillan -the best!!!!
The comments often refer to the famous high notes of Child in Time. On TH-cam, many singers cover this song and take pride in hitting the higher notes. Exactly!
He still has it, those demonic screams, awesome.
Love the Heavy guitar also.
thats just amazing! To have such a great voice at 60 years old!
I don't understand hate on Steve...I think that he is one of the best integration of one musician in the band and it's greatness such as Deep Purple. Cheers to all fans..
great song, it is sad, they don't play this song any more
he's still got his voice......:)
...So dont blame them in a way that this is not deep purple naymore. Their music has changed, They have all changed and the band has changed through the years. They still make me fligh like a fireball...Especially on concert...
Gillan does a great job, here, his screams are much better than in 1993.
Deep Purple, Ian Gillan and the guys, THE BEST EVER !!!!
STILL FREAKIN FANTASTIC SINGING..
Mr. Gillan, you are my hero :)
Caspita, dopo la performance del 93 non avrei mai più sperato di sentirla live. Mi sbagliavo!!
Ian always the best!!!
Great performance, similar to the 1994/95 performances of the song, with Satriani and later Steve. wow i thought they dont play this song since many years now..impresive perfomance!
El tiempo ya le cobro factura Ian ya no luce su extraordinaria voz pero aun la canta .Blackmore y Lord se les extraña
Ian is still singing good for a guy on his age.Let some nowday rockstars sing this song live i don't think there are to many who can sing this song better then Ian Maybe Dc Cooper can do it!!
я был на этом концерте!!!!!
..awesome....
I've got a shiver whan Morse starts playing;)
steve does a great job here
well its 16 years longer than mine. maybe they are chillin listenin to this on the other side.
Probably not. Hope i get to though.
ian's still got it! I can't believe he can still do this after so many years. Those are some pretty hard notes!
In 2003 I saw them in Rome, but they didn't play child in time, maybe because Gillan couldn't reach those notes... too bad they didn't come 1 year before...
Anyway that was a great concert and they played along with Lynyrd Skynyrd
Respect to Gillan!!!!!
personally i believe that "king of scream" is robert plant, but i really love gillan's voice in this song too
great!!
i love this song
Uh well the guy is 63 now and his vocal range ain't quite what it used to be but he's still got it as a performer
Ojala y en el Df toquen esta rolooota por que aca en monterrey nos quedamos con las ganas.... pero estuvo chingon el concierto..
saludos!!!
i agree were the hell is blackmore there is no deep purple without him
Great. Nothing to say.
fantasticaaaaa...xche non la fanno più ai concerti... :(
amen to that bro
Gillan is a god.
Gillan = GOD
yes,gillan
Still hitting the the high notes? No Gillan actiually stops at the second of three levels and let the guitar du the rest. BUT!!! this is brilliant and exactly what he and RB should have done already 25 years ago imho. It´s so good to hear him sing this masterpiece again. It´s music' not a circus act
!
I completely agree.
I'd like to add that morse should stay at home the rest of his life...
Wow. Gillan could still belt this out at @ 58 years of age. I may appreciate Morse's technique here, but I miss the emotional beauty of Blackmore's version.
Amen dude amen.
Steve Morse is so underrated.
how cool is that guitar going off...
no, since 2002. he said he was too old for touring. he's not, but it's his choice. personally, i love them both (Jon Lord and Don Airey) :D
that is true but its still an amazing song
Can Gillan still sing this?
Virtuosos!!! La mejor banda del Universo. Gillan es Dios.
all good things must come to an end! :(
This song is Blackmore and Lord
Nothing against Steve and Don,but this song is made for Lord and Blackmore
Deep Purple Forever from Greece
Great nostalgia)))
glaube nicht das er diese höhen noch erreicht, die technik macht es ,aber trotz alle dem eine hammer band
@hrodberht80 Ian Gillan is still one of the best singer in the world.
Sing for over 40 years at his level, drink and smoke as he has done, and then try to sing as he can today, then you can criticize him.
@77elvistheking Greece Loves Deep Purple!
Gillan's voice was still in great shape during this. Nowadays he's just a dead squeal.
Yeah just up and listen to the music.
it was not ian gillan doing doing the final scream. It was a harmony on the guitar, brothers. Age tells on gillan, and its OK!
DP for life!
@Pure777Ownage No, Coverdale came later, this is a 1973 song, Coverdale Era (mark IV) was from 1975
They need a singer who can actually sing and a guitarist who can play rock instead of country jazz or whatever it is. Then it will be worth listening too again.
Steve was actually voted "Best Overall Guitarist" by Guitar Player magazine. He has a higher ranking than Ritchie Blackmore
that is true, but glenn hughes is old and he was drugd all the time during the 70's and he still sings like he's 20...just listen concert in moscow,it's somewhere on youtube
No Ritchie Blackmore.. no Watchy!.. there I got it right now
ya don airey is awesome
i agree with you except for the last thing, gillan can still sing really good
A pale copy of their past best, lets remember them as they were great!
Give it up lads and go down the pub!!
😍
@jblk212 Ah, sorry. I do not dispute that Gillan is a very gifted, amazing singer - one of my top favorite vocalists, (not like it matters). The loss of his upper register is very sad, though. He can still kind of hit stuff in the higher range, it's just so much weaker now.

Richie and Steve are two different guitarists. Steve study Jazz and classical guitar. But both are great.
Yeah it's a shame but with how hard he used to belt it out it's to be expected.....still a lot better than a lot of the older guys.
...but yeah, album version.
@sacknard
i agree with you... al DP fans must stop discussing who in band is best... al of them are best in their case...
Gillan is best!!!..-of course....
good
It's not a playback. The audio is not synchronized well so it looks as if he's not in sync. But it's Gillan alright. He sound horrible, but it's him.
One of the last times Deep Purple performed this.
Yes it's out of sync but he is saying things that are not heard before or after it's said because his mic is closed, it's not live but mixed from tape
That was my exact opinion
it isnt playback, the audio isnt synchronized you can read it above
finchè ian gillan continuerà a cantare il rock non morirà mai...(david gilmour - pink floyd)
I'm very sad because we're watching the latest actions of The Great DEEP PURPLE.
Oh no you're not! The news album Whoosh is excellent.
This is such a great song. I really love it!
There´s a cover version, only on acoustic guitar, of Soldier of fortune on You Tube.
Lars Fischer - Soldier of fortune.
I think it´s well done!
By the way, it´s a great song, like many, many songs of Deep Purple.

the present deep purple is all nostalgia for the deaf who force themselves to hear things which arent there.... ;)
@Paragonx135 Many versions from 1969-1973 (especially Made In Japan), some versions from 1993 and many versions with Steve Morse... That's my opinion.
RIP Jon
dude .... he can't do it any more ... he's voice is fading too bad...after all they've been doing this stuff for 40 years ?
True that :P
To add to what I was saying earlier. If you hate Gillan's voice so much, then why do you have 100 bootlegs of Purple shows?
great band!!! sorry but you can compare them with any previous member!!! Ian Gillan is the best Hard Rock singer that the world have ever seen!!!!
