I don't bring my pits to dog parks anymore because of the other pits that are always there. Mine won't back down from the jerk dogs either and I ain't got time for dog fights and arguing with dumb owners.
I've always heard and believe the saying..."a pit might not start the fight but he will certainly finish it." This is why I don't take my pit to the dog park.
well my 5 month old poodle got attacked by an aggressive pitbull once at the park, poodle didnt even look at him so yes sometimes the pitbull does start it.
@@Grace-fu6mf I think the context here is that the Pit is not aggressive at all. One properly trained and socialized, esp at a young age with a responsible owner is a very (surprise)... normal dog.
Am i the only person that thinks these Dog parks are inherently volatile? Put thirty Dogs together in a confined space, and disagreements and fights are always going to happen? Or am i missing something?
Yeah it can cause issues fast. I personally only like dog parks with at most 4 dogs in the park. And dogs that are generally all behaved or owners that are willingly to let other dogs correct them. I.e. My pit-rottie mix loves to play ball but isn’t too fond of other dogs while our lab-hound mutt other dogs. In order to both get them their exercises and stimulation we have a local dog friendly park. We take them both and the people in our community know Sunny (pit-lab) doesn’t like rude pushy dogs. She won’t go after a dog and we have full control over her at all times. When she is annoyed she comes to us for help before ever growling or barking, but if the other dog continues to jump, nip, bark, mount, ect. She will pin them and correct them. We always try to remove her before then, but most owners with pushy dogs have either had their dog corrected by her and they no longer bother, or they’ve trained their dogs to have an “off” command. Dogs will teach other dogs what is acceptable. So when pushy dogs go after Sunny, our hound and all the other dogs will go after and correct the pushy dog. It’s such an interesting dynamic when dogs are allowed to use their own language. Hope this wasn’t too long of a read.
She talks about how pitbulls wanna finish business but they aren’t all like that. Corsos wanna take care of business as well. Just like her dog went and got into a fight that wasn’t hers.
100%. Asking for it. I steer clear of dog parks. The people, the dogs, ... I love my pitbull too much to put him in harms way. Meaning: if he gets in a fight - he's a pit. There's a risk he'll be taken from me or put down. He will hurt the other dog. Protect your dogs from this problem.
Labs have a side to them my dog is an Akita mix and labradors have it in for him he’s been attacked twice by them and my dog is very social and respectful with other dogs so I’m always wary now of labradors
I'm a pitbull person. I love pitbulls with all my soul. That being said, I never let my pit get away with aggressive behavior. I know the type of people you're talking about, and I agree that they don't realize that they are harming the reputation we tried so hard to build up for them.
I'm all for your objecting to owners that don't try harder to control their dogs especially if it really looks like the owner thinks there is nothing wrong or nothing to do about their dog's behavior. In the dog park I like to start pretending and acting as though the owner does know there is a problem but just has some difficulty in handling their dog: so I get in the problem dog's way and thwart some of the bad behavior planning to quit only if the problem dog threatens me (that's never happened, nor has the dog's owner ever threatened me). Have some of you decided not to get involved as I do because of other owners getting hostile about your interference when you tried? Or do you just not want to get involved because you feel it should not be your problem?
@@nonamenoname246 I always offer to step in or help in situations where dog's are getting aggressive. I never try to put the blame on the owners because they tend to get insulted and refuse help. If an actual dog fight does break out I will step in and get them separated regardless of what the owners want. For the owners who aren't knowledgeable I've always given advice on what to do if they're receptive to it. I've even helped dog owners after their dog bit mine because I rather help the poor pups then have them be put down. I try to help where I can!
That’s something that outside people need to understand though. Yes, as a pür I’ll owner it is your responsibility to erase the stigma of pit bulls, but it’s also others’ responsibility to stop perpetuating the stereotype that all pit bulls possess bad behavior that cannot be corrected. It’s all about the owner and the training. People need to stop clumping all pitbulls and their owners into one group, just like the stigma of Rottweilers.
But dogs bred for gameness will always have to be handled different from one another depending on their individual personality and instinct. You need to know around age 2 - if they are aggressive or not. You won't know that sometimes before it's too late. A trainer specializing in aggression and code-red dog behavior can help determine that without a fight having to happen. Otherwise, be careful and never underestimate your pitbull. If he is aggressive and wants to fight - it's simply instinct, bred by humans, to do so. No reason to be angry at the dog or dislike him. Don't anthropomorphize dogs. Continue to love him but understand you must work with a special trainer and have an open mind that the risk outweighs wanting a dog friendly animal. If she's too much of a risk - just keep her away from other dogs. Period. My pitbull is a people ONLY animal. He's the absolute love of my life. But an enormous responsibility. We owe it to the breed to not discard aggressive pitbulls, we owe it to them to accept them and give them full lives. Even if it means without other dogs near.
I say age 2 because a pitbull can be very friendly and loving to other dogs and pits when they're under 2. Age 2 is when they start to grow into their aggression. Like a puberty. Knowing what I know now, I would never assume a pitbull is not aggressive until I've worked with a trainer until the age of 3 or more. It's not something you want to happen. If you've never seen a pitbull fight, I suggest you watch one. It'll change your life.
That poor pitbull on the leash. He was obviously anxious from all the other dogs surrounding him and pressuring him. If your dog is in a fight, you drop the leash, at that point, there's nothing else you can do other than to let your dog's natural instincts take over. You can't protect your dog from a fight by keeping him restrained while another dog is biting and attacking him, it does him no good.
The white Pitbull was "poor" in a sense that the handler didn`t trust him to be with the other dogs equally off leash. I agree it is almost an invitation for trouble, because the other dogs know he can`t move as freely as them. Luckily most of the other dogs (besides the brindle pitty a little bit) were "well" behaved and didn`t use this situation to get at him. I agree the owner or handler did a risky thing there. My terrier mix which I got from the shelter (I believe there was a pit in her line as well) got bitten by a free running labrador directly and without hesitation in the nose. That was extremly unsozial dog behavior and a real bad experience for both of us, because my dog was on the leash, we were on our way home on the street and my dog was quietly walking beside me, the labrador came around the corner in full speed. The owner was playing catch the ball with him apparently. Of course I let go of the leash and my dog had the other dog on the neck. I separated them and was jelled at by the owner of said free running labrador. When this guy threatened to whack me and tried to kick my dog (almost successfully) I just called the police and they took care of the situation. They believed me, they saw that my dog had a leash and the other dog not only had no leash but also no collar - so everything was fine in the end, besides our visit to the vet of course.
She did keep her dog away from the other pit by jurking it back behind her. If she wouldn't have done that there would have been a fight. I think she was checking everything out before she released her dog or left.
I've told my daughter just that. If our male is attacked, to let him hold his own by dropping the leash. She can't sperate a fight on her own. She knows to drop the leash, and to call the police or for help (us) while it's happening. At the park, he's put on leash if we see him becoming annoying or trying to dominate another dog. He's so hyper, he can create a fight quick
Is my pit-bull the only one that runs away from fights and commotion?? Lmao the moment a dog corrects her or growls at her she will literally turn away and be like Nope not today. 😂
There are certain individuals that are just not wired with that drive and that is awesome but, when another animal pushes your dog beyond her threshold and she doesn't have a chance to flight, she will fight. And once that happens it is hard to disengage them from that adrenaline packed moment. And unfortunately you're amazing dog at that point would be extremely sensitive and unpredictable with other dogs because they can't trust. Being an irresponsible owner and allowing dogs to traumatize other dogs is never okay and sadly it's the norm with the "fur baby owners" like in this video, who can't admit they have a real pitbull! (Even just a mix) but really what they mean is they have yet to see their Pitbull show "pitbull" related behaviors. It is one-hundred-percent not the breed it is always mostly the owner and how they're raised but that is not to say that there are not genetics at play and not traits that are still there from the past mistakes that we made when we thought that it would be entertaining to make them want to fight in such an extreme manner that they ignore anything else including pain. These dogs actually enjoyed the fight they enjoyed the adrenaline rush and there was nothing that competed with that and in order to get your dog to choose to not act that way you have to have something that competes. You have to know what you're looking at to be able to set your dog up for success in every situation and if you don't know or are not willing to accept what you know, then you are walking a very fine line of setting your dog up for failure.
Nevermind was kind of a while you know weird breed just a blue pit if things were cracking off at the dog park or at daycare she would climb up on the tallest scaffolding and climb over or s*** shoot even climb over the fence of that and all the dogs are gone wild
I have a 10 month old female pit bull, And yeah they can be one hell of a handfull. Doesn't mean they can't be or aren't good dogs, but you MUST know their behavior, what they are like and be responsible!
It's not always bad owners, some people just don't have the knowledge or the skill to handle large or powerful breeds. I feel that sometimes people are quick to attack a person that they don't know and I see them being the aggressive one and not the dogs.
@Kawaii Lio Pitbulls are dangerous in the sense that, once they get into a fight, they tend not to give it up. A fight that involves a pitbull can turn deadly very easily if the owner has no control. Pits are one of the most efficient and powerful fighters among dogs, meaning that avoiding dog fights with them is essential. Outside of fighting, a well-trained pit won't be a problem.
@Andrew Crowley I've owned 4 pits and have been around them my whole life. They are indeed more unpredictable than any other breed and are also more aggressive in general
You should do a segment where you receive video submissions about your viewers’ dog behavior at dog parks and give advice Or have it as a patreon reward
I love pit bulls and have had them all my life and it REALLY annoys me when people don’t properly train or check their dogs. Because of the negative connotation the breed has you really need to train them and make sure they are respectful.
@@aspen7993 American pit bull terriers are generally under 65lb. There have been bigger ones like Gr Ch Mayday was 75lb. But 45lb was more common. Check out the ADBA for the full breed standard. Not the standard set by the UKC. ADBA,BFKC, SDR and ICDR Are the most notable Registries for the American Pit bull terrier.
@@aspen7993 it's all good 👍. I agree that the American Pit bull terrier is a powerful dog that can cause alot of damage. Even though they are not a very large breed of dog they have the potential. To cause more damage than some larger breeds. Not because they are meaner than other breeds but because they have the strength of a larger dog pared with the Thing that. Separates them from other breeds which is their drive. American pit bull terriers have a higher level of drive than most breeds. So everything that they do They do with high intensity. They will pull on a dirt bike tire hanging from a rope with out being encouraged. While other breeds need encouragement or they will get bored and quit. American pit bull terriers will run themselves on a slat mill. While other breeds stop once they get tired or when they realize they aren't going anywhere. When pitbulls are faced with a challenge they become more intense when other types of dogs are challenged they'll quit even though they had more to give. This intense drive has been bred into the American pit bull terrier for a long time. There has been dog fights documented that went on for over 2 hours. It used to be legal for people to test their dogs on hogs people would time how long it would take for the dog to pin down the hog or hold it in one place This could take up to a hour at times. When these events were legal it was like going to the fair whole family's would attend there would be food and music dogs were sold and hogs would be auctiond. Now days the American pit bull terrier is still commonly used for hunting hogs. All of this is part of the breeds history and plays a part in the development of the APBT a amazing breed with crazy drive that gives them the ability to do amazing things. Or horrific and horrible things like killing people's pets and mauling innocent people. You are right they can cause a lot of damage and they do need a owner that is responsible and educated about the breed. Who has the means to keep them from harming any people or pets but still being able to meet their needs by giving them the physical and mental stimulation. That's required by this high energy working breed. The American pit bull terrier is my favorite breed and they truly are misunderstood by so many people. I was just sharing information about them with you. it wasn't meant to be in a negative way or in a corrective manner. Because I do agree with what you said. I don't know why I felt like sharing information about them with you I just did ✌😬👍
Some people are training their dogs to get comfortable around other dogs. I know my older male has such anxiety around people and dogs he doesn't know. He's sweet, but shy. So when our other dogs are running around the park, he stays with us or sits at the tables by himself lol. So for his comfort, we keep him on the leash with us.
These videos help me so much! I have a 5 month 62 pound Rottweiler and he’s a sweetheart but this helps me know if another dog is starting trouble. With such big and strong dogs you don’t wanna take the chance of something bad happening.
Aaaand that’s why we don’t take our pit to public spaces like this. He would either start a fight like the brindle dog or end up caught up in one and get hurt or hurt someone. I can’t stand people who aren’t aware enough to know that their dog isn’t fit to be out like that. It’s not a damn cage fight, take your crazy animal home!
@@chevellaconrad8836 I can tell you're trying to start a fight. I'm sorry, you're not going to get one here. If you read my comment you'll see exactly what I said :)
This makes me very self aware of my dog at the dog park. I have an 80 pound 8 month old Great Pyrenees. I always have a hard time detecting jerk behavior versus playful behavior. I never know when the right time to “check him” is. But I’m working on it! I’m obsessed with these dog park videos. :)
I really appreciate these videos and do not get offensive at all when you speak the truth of a dogs behavior. I have a pitbull and beagle mixed with a rat terrier, and my pitbull is very dominant and overprotective towards me and it happens to make my beagle's anxiety increase poorly. Watching these commentaries on what to watch out for, really helps me prevent a lot of dog fights between my boys. So, again, thank you so much for these videos!
I know being in the park must be stressful sometimes Rachel, but you make it so interesting to watch. I'm sure glad your pups listen to you. You are amazing.
I think it really helps people like me who watch your videos about dog behaviour to see what the jerk attitude looks like. Because for me I can have someone explain till they are blue in the face and I can think I get it, but it helps so much to see it in action! So thanks for taking one for the team so people like me can have actual examples!
That sort of thing is what caught my eye the first video I ever saw from Rachel. She teaches and explains WHY things are happening, it's so important to me. Just watching the babies run around is enjoyable, but learning what they are doing and why they do it is educational and I just love that! 💕❤💕
@@cuterpooter I agree! I have been around dogs and training my own dogs I have done my own research and what not, but seeing it in action is super helpful! And with dog training I think you can always learn new things because every dog is different!
I love the way that Blondie and Midnight are not even paying that much attention to the other dogs having rows. Midnight just showing dominant behaviour and still listened to you, that shows respect for you. I completely agree that little dogs and big dogs play so differently
Yeah. My boy hasn't been able to go to the park anymore because he's gotten attacked twice by pitmixes. He's a big boy and is confident and they do not like it. Both times he's been attacked he wasn't even interacting with that dog.
@@jeddy_bravo I don't understand what breed has to do with it, any dog can be aggressive and regardless of the breed that attacked her dog I don't see why er dog's breed would matter

I don't get it, if don't trust my dog to let him of the leash why go to the dogpark? So confusing, makes no sense to me. Every time i see someone with a harness i want to say something about it and i have to hold back so bad.
Im actually really curious because I have used harnesses before. Does it negatively affect how act on walks or is it just bad because she is keeping him leased
It has a negativ affect on how dogs act on a walk. They start pulling on the leash, that is what a harness was primarily invented for. Like when huskys pull sleds.
I really appreciate the your channel. A lot of dog owners are so untrained and that's why the dogs behave the way they do. They allow aggression to go unchecked and when the dogs attack other dogs or children......then they apologize and yell at the dog. They need to curb the behavior from home. Thanks for posting! Good training for dog owners of which I will be in a few weeks!
I find it very interesting that typically men will get a large breed dog such as a pit bull for status and can not handle their dog and not correct the behavior lol I also noticed that in some dog parks videos of yours Rachel that the people who never corrected their dogs behavior have been the same ones that will complement and ask you about yours dogs 😂
i will never take my dogs to the dog park. all you can really do is make sure your dog is trained and you are responsible. but you can't control other people and that's what makes me nervous. i really appreciate your honesty about your dogs, and your blunt opinions. it's refreshing to see someone who will acknowledge the issues their dogs have.
It’s better to put them in doggy daycare. The biggest issue is the owner being there. Dogs are usually better together with the owner removed in a controlled setting
Diana Boedecker 😪 yeah you just reminded me i saw my neighbors dogs fight each other one day..one was chained up (illegally) and the other had gotten loose..he killed the chained up one 😭 sorry just felt I had to share
@@AO-sz5ci sorry you had to see that. My dog got killed while I was walking her. A pitbull broke thru a window screen from a second floor and jumped down with no hesitation and charged at me. I picked up my chihuahua but the dog was jumping all over me and managed to her jaws on my dog and snatched her out of my arms. I kicked the pit trying to get her to release but it was useless. The owners when they came out had no control on the dog, came out without a leash or a stick or something to get her to release. I filed a police report but long story short they gave me the run around because the cop who took my report did not file as a "dog at large". Finally after 1 month a prosecutor is gonna look at my case and luckily the neighbors survilliance camera caught everything, so I have evidence. The attacking pit had already killed another neightboors dog i found out later. This could have been prevented had there been stricter laws to remove aggressive dogs from irresponsible owners. That pit has a history of agression including attacking 2 other dogs he lives with. Animal control has not done their job.
Karen Flores I’m so sorry. It’s a horrible experience to go through. I hope you get justice. I called Animal Control multiple times as well because the pits were chained up and malnourished. I was very upset at the time w/ the Police for not responding & Animal Control not doing their job in the first place. 😪
@@karenflores4987 People should need to have a permit before they can own certain breeds. Seriously. The amount of incompetent fools who purchase aggressive breeds because it's "cool" need to just stop. Get a corgi or something. That's more your speed.
You should’ve walked closer to the guy who owns the pitbull and started talking obnoxiously loud about its behavior and narrating it’s body language lol
I love my pits but I also know they have tendencies to carry a fight too far. I am like you, I will be the first one to admit it. I still love them though, and always will. Even with their faults.
Why would you bring a dog to a DOG park with a leash on. The whole point of the dog park is to let ur dog be free and have fun. It's just like a child at the playground. You don't bring your child to a play ground and have them stay by you.You go and let them play! Some people really frustrate me😤
I would recommend that. If your dog has serious problems with other dogs the best advice would be a special training with a dog trainer who has the experience and competence and ideally a well tempered dog with whom he can train you and your dog.
in my case having a leash on my dog for once in a dog park was a good thing, there would've been a Boxer-lab being in trouble and a seriously injured Beagle if my dogs hadn't had leashes on.
I love your honesty as a trainer. This is how it needs to be in order to work with dogs and show them you are the boss above all. It’s so hard to make people who don’t get that understand.
Jesus! I'm not good at this kind of tension with my dogs. Literally i'm sweating. (Do not misundestand me, i love this kind of videos because i learn so much!!) I think it's really dangerous to have small dogs between the big excited dogs today. Why the owners did not see it? A friend of mine has a female pitbull mix. She attacked my dog, apparently for no reason. My dog is insecure, i know she is a target, but that dog came running and grabed my dog from the neck. Thank God that day my dog had two collars because i was trying a new one. But that dog did not let go my dog!! I'm calm to resolve fights but i HATE them! I agree with Blondie... let's get out of here!!! xD Big hugs for all the pack from Argentina!!
She’s scared of the dogs, so I think she keeps hers harnessed, thinking she can control the dog. It’s scary when your dog roams free. I feel that way, and I admire you so much that you’re not scared of dogs or your own dogs. Love you Rachel! Ps, I love dogs!!! mine are lap dogs though hahahaha a 12 year old shih tzu and a new baby chihuahua just joined us! 🥰
just stumbled across this video while I have been having my 10 mo old Doberman at the local dog park. He is very socialized and very high energy, and nearly every time we’re at the park, a fight breaks out and he tries to intervene. Got lucky with such a sweet heart for a dog
What gets me is the amount of dogs without collar s on ( prob just because it’s law here 🇬🇧) your dogs have good recall but a lot don’t and if they had collars on their owners can grab them rather than follow them about because the dogs slip out of their hands. Your dogs are beautiful absolutely beautiful
Absolutely!!!!! My thoughts exactly. Dogs should ALWAYS have a collar when in public (especially!). Owners have to have a way to grab and separate them if necessary. No collar makes that very difficult.
I don't think you can necessarily label all owners who walk dogs on lead as insecure pet owners. It sounds like you're simply talking from your own experience. I have a wolf dog who is extremely well behaved and easy to handle. Him as well as my other 2 dogs are walked hooked to my belt loop; he could easily rip away and take off if he wanted to. But despite that he walks beside me on a loose lead even when other dogs on leads passing us are barking, lunging, etc. My toddler is usually biking ahead of us. He's amazing around my chickens (I think we have over 30 hens now so it's impossible to walk him through the coop or run without being very close to a hen and he follows me no issues with them flapping all over), dairy goats, and horses. He's off lead at our house 24/7 and I love walking all 3 of them alongside me when we go to town because I find that enjoyable. It keeps me moving, not just sitting down watching them from a distance, like every other day! I feel like between all our animals the dogs get the least of my time lately with kidding season, so for me, it's just to enjoy my dogs. Maverick doesn't mind the goat kids climbing on him and often licks them like a mama dog would. Almost everyday we have antelope come through our property and I hate when they get close to the chicken coop (they eat most of the chicken feed that is out! GRR) So I let Maverick chase them away. He can be at a dead run chasing them and if I call he immediately turns and comes right to me. During the winter he LOVES being outside, but me, not so much (gets to -40) so he's trained to run on the treadmill in the house. I'm also training him for dog skijoring in the winter!! Dogs on lead reacting or misbehaving probably have owner issues ;)
Renew Your Mind I think she or he meant it’s insecure to leash your dog at the park, there are environments that’s call for leasing & that should be obvious to all.
Ok but the area I walk my dog is surrounded by roads and there's stray and aggressive dogs around everywhere. Am I an "insecure" pet owner for not wanting my dog injured?
You always teach us lots of stuff on canine behaviour and I really admire your knowledge. I'm always struggling trying to understand what's happening between dogs and don't know where to find answers. Your videos help a lot. I was also wondering if you'll ever do a video just about behaviour, like to teach us what is what, what should we correct and what is normal etc.. Like a guide on postures and interactions, dunno. It'd be awesome.
It was nerve racking for a minute there. Midnight! That pitbull owner was too busy admiring your beautiful dogs to handle his own dogs behavior. Blondie was like, "Let's go!"
All dogs (especially terriers) when they really get into it want to fight to the end, it's just that pits are more capable of doing damage than many other breeds. I personally like to adopt shelter pits and think breeding should be banned until all shelters are empty. My last pit loved all animals unless they tried domination but he got along with my cats & accepted that they ran the place. My current pit is hyper-reactive & I don't let her off leash except with dogs I know she gets along with. She gets along with 2 of 4 cats. She's actually better with small dogs as she's not immediately afraid of them. Larger dogs take time. (Based on very scarred and torn ears I think she may have been a bait dog).
@@kirkmo1666 My boys were 3 & 6 when we adopted our 1st pit. My biggest problems were the looks other parents gave me picking the boys up from school. Like with any breed with proper training & socialization they are sweet family pets.
@@mikeylikey710 Training is absolutely key but dogs also have individual personalities (regardless of breed) like people and some do better with children than others. It's also been my experience that along with training "work breeds" also need a structured life involving lots of exhausting play & exercise. Tired happy dogs don't cause trouble is my philosophy.
i would 100% support you on banning breeding if there wasn’t some reasons for it. i had to buy from a breeder cause we needed a puppy to train for service work, since training a full adult dog won’t get as far with it. we also got him at a young age because my brother is terrified of bigger dogs and if he grew up with him, he’d be better with the dog. my mom also was against having a standard black and tan shepherd because two of them mauled her poodle when she was younger (don’t blame her, tbh i wouldn’t trust the breed after it either) so instead she was able to negotiate with a white gsd and we got that. once i’ve moved out i’ll definitely adopt, though. i have always wanted to and there are many dogs in need of homes in shelters. though, buying a puppy is okay if there are reasons.
I had a bully pit or whatever you want to call it and my dog did act like that at all it how you train you dog to me and the white dog didnt do anything it was that brindle pit in the park messing with all the dogs. I am just looking how the owners dnt stop the dog wow.. Luv you Rachael and all the teaching you teach PERIODT!!!!
“Not willing to let them just agree to disagree” What a brilliant way to put into words. I had this happen with a pitbull at my dog park. My GSD is about a year old and massive (my grandad calls him a horse) and one day we were in the park with a undisciplined juvenile pitbull who just wouldn’t leave my dog alone. the pit would get amped up and my dog would try to leave but the pit pursued him. Ran my dog ragged. Eventually my dog ran to me for help and the pit jumped on top of him trying to put him on the ground. i had to literally pull the pit (by his fancy harness) off my dog. Not saying that they can’t be great dogs but they need to be put in their place every once in a while.
She Collects and you are a fantastic person for that! Instead of being prideful like others! I love my pit mixes but I know they can be little warriors too lol! Thank you for being a great owner!
Thank your for this type of content. I have learned so many things from these videos. I never knew the different types of dog behaviors, especially at dog parks. My Rottie Tank was trying to start having some of those behaviors, but I nipped it in the butt real quick! Thank you for all you do Rachel!😊💕
"...pretty crazy. I'm going to go and hit the rocks." 😂 I rewinded that like 5x. I couldn't stop laughing! It was especially funny coming from you hahaha
Ehh, I Would have corrected my dogs if I knew the owner was trying to get his dogs toy back.. I know place is public & it is what it is but still 😐 you were like haha.. he’s trying to get his dogs ball back & his dog has given up bc of my pack
Correct her dogs for what, being dogs and chasing a ball. That's why you don't bring toys to dog parks. If you want to play wit a toy take your dog early am or pm, so none of this happens. You can't blame any dog for chasing a ball whether it's theirs or not. It's what dogs do
@@kimwebb7267 Why not teach your dog the leave it command? It's not just helpful in keeping your dog away from other dog's toys, but from anything that you don't want your dogs around. I think it's rude to allow your dogs to grab others toys and then not do any kind of correction. I have a busy schedule, and I'm not always able to take my dog to a park at an early or late time when there aren't any other dogs.
I'm sorry, I am not going to micro manage my dog at a dog park because you decided to bring a toy. When I bring a toy, I know that other dogs will want it. If another dog takes our toy then too bad, I consider it gone.
What I don't understand is why people bring their untrained and non socialized dogs to a dog park where they absolutely WILL cause harm, either to themselves or/and other dogs or even possibly people.
How are owners this clueless on dog behavior?! Shouldn’t a person know dog behavior when they own dogs? Especially when dealing with breeds that can be a problem...

Just like it’s a REQUIREMENT to take a class before u own a gun, it should be REQUIRED to LEARN dog behavior BEFORE owning a dog. Just like guns are getting blamed for all these mass shootings INSTEAD of the people who are pulling the trigger, these breeds are getting blamed instead of the owner, WHEN it’s the OWNERS responsibility to make sure things don’t happen.
Some people get dogs that can be problems because it makes up for their tiny dicks. They let the dog go crazy because they think it's cool. Little do they know, it makes them look incompetent and foolish.
You are dead right about pits, I have one and know many and they are all super good dogs but they will not back down from a fight. My pit never ever starts with other dogs, so I am always alert and on guard. You have gorgeous dogs and do very well with them. 🥰💖🥰💖
The people who are going to give you grief over what you're observing are the ones that can't open their minds. I have a pitbull blend and I am looking for tips on how to better myself and him in public because he's already leash reactive and dominant.
Look forward to more videos, recently took our Labrador retriever to a dog park and immediately knew I was the problem. Was afraid to enter, had her on a leash, thankgod there was someone who helped me and told me about leash tension and how it makes them react worst. She’s 7 months and super friendly. Fixed my problems and realized we’ll be going back more since she did awesome once inside
they are great but its like having a full time job whitout pay, after owning close to 10 dogs in my life all powerfull breeds, the pitt was the hardest one for sure, all dogs can get into fights but when its the pitbull fighting you are gonna get in a big trouble
@@nahuel._ FULL time job yes LOL that's the truth but the pay is in gold having the best dog in the world the APBT the sacrifice is worth every minute.
I can never take my dog to the dog park. Because of the fact that he's a pitbull the other owners end up leaving or we get asked to leave. I'm not a confrontational person so I usually leave and cry later lol sucks how people view certain types of dogs
13min bashing pitbulls and two little dogs starts a huge fight and even midnight joining in and no words and no bashing. Any dog could of got in there doing the same thing that pit was doing. Sigh*
Did u even listen 🤔 she wasn't bashing pits. It's hard to believe but she does have knowledge on pits. In fact, at one point she did breed them. She understands how they can be. She won't sugarcoat it. Besides, a big dog like a pit is alot harder to get control of when it's in a fight than a little dog. She did talk about the terrier being the problem. As for Midnight, she called her off
@@awgeez3048 it really does but you should still be careful with pits. I love mine but I recognize that she is not very well socialized with other dogs. She needs a long slow introduction to them.
Rachel, this vid was everything. Absolutely love the way you break it all down in your videos; dog behaviors, pet owners responsibility when coming to the dog park, etc. And of course Blondie acting like a lioness....waiting to do a playful / friendly pounce on Midnight!!!! Sometimes I'll say I'm going to watch the first few minutes of your video, pause it, and go take care of a few things around the house then come back and finish watching the vid. But I can't pause it because I'm all caught up in what's going on and listening to you explain what I'm seeing. I may skip a few days because of work and other responsibilities so I just binge watch the ones I've missed. Again, this was a really fascinating vid. Thanks!
I listened up until 13:04 & a good pit bull owner shouldnt take their dogs to dog parks- NOT because they “over-react” but because if something does pop off- they usually get the blame.
They usually get the blame because they are always in the midlle of the drama. :) Pitbulls are really really intense breed to have and require insane skill and a lot of training and time input into them. And 95% of owners are not capable of that. Some breeds should be given only to people that have some sort of licence to prove that they can handle this type of dogs. The problem is not in the dogs is in the people and thats why we should regulate who gets to have this dogs that in the wrong hands are a loaded gun without safetty.
I love the comments from you about dogs behaving despite I had big breeds for years in my life I always hear something I wouldn't have realised and i like to learn for my lifetime... The clearly logic way you analyse is very good for other owners getting into it... Thank you for your work and sharing it 🙏
Ive been binhe watching your videos - first off preacher is absolutely gorgeous and im in love with him. I had no idea why my dog acts like she does at the dog park. Now i know i need to check her more than i do, (though shes only 7lbs but still.) Thank you for your videos!
I watched the video a lot of times. I look for details of dog behaviour. :D In the last fight 13:40, Blondie looked interested and went with Midnight to see what was happening but it seemed that she did not know what to do when lost Midnight into the figth. The body language of Midnight was different than Blondie. She had her target between the eyes. She went directly to the big black dog that was "eating" a small dog. I guess that the action of the girl with a glass of putting Midnight between her legs, snapped Midnight off.
I raised pits for over 20 years. One day one of your dogs will surprise you and it may not be good for you. Sometimes things get real a whole lot faster than you can react no matter how smart you think you are about aggressive dog breeds.
Merrrr please don’t say things like “when a pit bull gets into it, they want to take care of it”. Don’t stereotype an entire breed. My pitty gets bullied allllllll time because he’s such a push over. He’s been attacked by labs, shepherds and collies. And he just runs to his mama every time. He’s a big baby
The exception does not change the rule. Most pitts are pretty aggressive and dominant sure with good training they can be pretty docile but at their core they are fighters.
@@TS-hz4me You likely take good care of your pups. In the end even with dogs with more aggressive/dominant nature like the Akita im getting will be happy docile dogs if loved trained and cared for correctly.
I love you observing these dogs and I’m so thoroughly immersed in this video right now and I love what you’re saying! Except you just scolded the guy for picking up the rude pit and scolding it, but you just scolded your own for getting involved that tiny bit with the small dog fight. I think if you had corrected with an e collar instead (if you had one of course) you would have been able to intervene without saying anything at all and been more clear. I know this was a year ago and I just discovered this channel and things might have changed 😂 honestly dog parks are dangerous though for exactly what you show here. I personally trained my dog to be off leash with an e collar and I let her run any place that has open space! Turned the world into her own dog park! I love your dogs and your attitude!
It’s funny to see the stigma everyone still has on “pitbulls”. Stop blaming the dog and put it on the owner. Every dog can be dominant regardless of breed. It’s about how they are raised. Tired of people thinking pitbulls are just trouble makers
Your Mom Yep, generally Pit Bulls are well behaved dogs and rarely start trouble. My Bull terrier is the same but he has been attacked so many times in public parks that I gave the park up. Even though he never started the trouble I would muzzle him for the confidence of other dog owners but after he then got attacked again whilst muzzled I never muzzled him again. Incidentally I took the muzzle off during the attack much too the owners reluctance but it needed to be done for my dog to protect himself of which he did and very effectively. The attacking dog lost but thankfully with no serious injury. The problem was with the ignorance of the bystanders that ensued after the dogs were untangled they went as far as to beat me and my dogs with their fists presuming my dog was the attacker. They also lost.
Dana Tunbridge Generally I find all Bull terriers breeds tend to be more defensive than offensive. Over here in the UK a lot of people walk around with their Staffordshire’s off the lead/leash in the street. Obviously with some dogs you can’t but then if that’s the case then it’s down to the owner to discern the dogs character as some dogs will attack a lot of the time no matter how well you train them.
It was so interesting listening to you talk about the body language of dogs and when you say little dogs should stick to the little dog park as little dogs are yappy and can cause problems with bigger dogs and I was saying out loud you are so right as I have two chihuahuas one male one female no problems with the female so good around other dogs and people but then the male when he sees a bigger dog he has to bark at them straight away I correct him and he stops and he only does it to bigger dogs than himself your dogs are beautiful thank you for your knowledge xx.
Midnight came to the rescue of that poor little dog the other black dog was shaking. 13:40 midnight seen what the big dog was doing to the little dog and probably was tryna break it up. ----Also phewww woah i’m glad that brindle pit didn’t get involved in the huge altercation, I have pit/ dogo argentina mixes too and know that they don’t go looking for trouble but if a dog keeps following them giving them a problem they will not bck down. It’s always other pit-bulls that they’ve had altercations with, they just test each other too much within their breed and then don’t bck down.
I have a very dominant Shollie and other intact males like to single out my dog. He doesn’t start fights, but because he’s intact (fixin’ to get neutered) males like to try to go after him. My dog tries to mind his business but when I see him even show a little bit of bad behavior I put him on leash timeout (I leash him for 10 minutes for him to calm down) and it usually works. I hate when owners don’t check their dogs and don’t take their pet home when it’s being aggressive.
I don't bring my pits to dog parks anymore because of the other pits that are always there. Mine won't back down from the jerk dogs either and I ain't got time for dog fights and arguing with dumb owners.

Wow... same thing going on here....
I've always heard and believe the saying..."a pit might not start the fight but he will certainly finish it." This is why I don't take my pit to the dog park.
me neither mines a pushover but eventually he will snap....
Because they will finish it - even if they do not start it.
well my 5 month old poodle got attacked by an aggressive pitbull once at the park, poodle didnt even look at him so yes sometimes the pitbull does start it.
@@Grace-fu6mf probably why he said might not rather than will not
@@Grace-fu6mf I think the context here is that the Pit is not aggressive at all.
Nope your 💯 right it’s just a matter of letting them handle the situation if not intervene and get out of that park
The problem is 30 untrained and unstable dogs.
Their were 4 Pitbull's at the dog park today. None of them caused an issue. It was a Chocolate Lab that did.
It's not about the breed...
Labs have a side to them my dog is an Akita mix and labradors have it in for him he’s been attacked twice by them and my dog is very social and respectful with other dogs so I’m always wary now of labradors
A 13 year old chocolate lab attacked my docile 8 week old aussie husky.
I also have owned pits. Two were great dogs and two turned into jerks. I think it's both owner and dog breed.
@ typical lefty. You're the only one acting like an expert, the perfect example of why i hate leftist snowflakes. Biggest hypocrites on the planet
I love how laid back Blondie is, Seems like for the most part she stays out of drama. Also Rachel is a great dog trainer.....
Or you walk them out of the park with that leash
@@pattystone7610 but if you drop the leash your dog might end up getting badly hurt

Mine too. But a Jack Russell bit her nose drew blood. She discovered oh I can fight.
Your pit is a smart dog
You both hit the nail square on the head!
@Z wtf kind of analogy was that? 😂
@Andrew Crowley I've owned 4 pits and have been around them my whole life. They are indeed more unpredictable than any other breed and are also more aggressive in general

I agree that the American Pit bull terrier is a powerful dog that can cause alot of damage.
Even though they are not a very large breed of dog they have the potential.
To cause more damage than some larger breeds.
Not because they are meaner than other breeds but because they have the strength of a larger dog pared with the
Thing that.
It used to be legal for people to test their dogs on hogs people would time how long it would take for the dog to pin down the hog or hold it in one place
This could take up to a hour at times.

@@desdominix4818 just wondering
got to love how the owner of the pit is just walking around like whatever... , he should either start to show his dog what he/she is doing wrong or leave . if not the dog is never gonna know and there for gonna think hes beeing a good boy/girl. i do understand why u do not tell people anymore because in most peoples mind they are doing good and they are the 'perfect dog trainer/handler' , myself i am studying to become a dog trainer at one point and i have learned alot from the videos u post everyday . love the videos and keep up the good work :)
I don't get it, if don't trust my dog to let him of the leash why go to the dogpark? So confusing, makes no sense to me. Every time i see someone with a harness i want to say something about it and i have to hold back so bad.
Who cares
Im actually really curious because I have used harnesses before. Does it negatively affect how act on walks or is it just bad because she is keeping him leased
It has a negativ affect on how dogs act on a walk. They start pulling on the leash, that is what a harness was primarily invented for. Like when huskys pull sleds.
Thank you that does make a lot sense. Weird thinking about it now how a lot of people use harnesses with the thought it would be easier to walk
I know, kind of crazy to me.
Good training for dog owners of which I will be in a few weeks!
your answer to everything is "hey, their dogs what can you do."
My brother is one of those types! Drives me crazy being around his dogs....
@@johnsmith-zc9qn - Do you have a crazy powerful breed? Sounds like her comment triggered you just a tad lol
It’s interesting that someone would generalize about genders, dog size, and handling.
My oldest brother has a chihuahua-
Pit bulls are not “large” breeds
i will never take my dogs to the dog park. all you can really do is make sure your dog is trained and you are responsible. but you can't control other people and that's what makes me nervous. i really appreciate your honesty about your dogs, and your blunt opinions. it's refreshing to see someone who will acknowledge the issues their dogs have.
It’s better to put them in doggy daycare. The biggest issue is the owner being there. Dogs are usually better together with the owner removed in a controlled setting
God I think I have PTSD from seeing my sons' pitbull in a fight.. I don't ever want to see that again.

You should’ve walked closer to the guy who owns the pitbull and started talking obnoxiously loud about its behavior and narrating it’s body language lol
she is all talk not really trying to help
I love my pits but I also know they have tendencies to carry a fight too far. I am like you, I will be the first one to admit it. I still love them though, and always will. Even with their faults.
That white pitbull was walking her lol
Why would you bring a dog to a DOG park with a leash on. The whole point of the dog park is to let ur dog be free and have fun. It's just like a child at the playground. You don't bring your child to a play ground and have them stay by you.You go and let them play! Some people really frustrate me😤
@Ciara Bands Okay so if ur dog cant handle being around other dogs or being off a leash don't bring them to a dog park simple
I would recommend that. If your dog has serious problems with other dogs the best advice would be a special training with a dog trainer who has the experience and competence and ideally a well tempered dog with whom he can train you and your dog.
Ideally to avoid social issues I would recommend going to a dog school with your puppy.
@@KimChi-iy7jd yes i agree
in my case having a leash on my dog for once in a dog park was a good thing, there would've been a Boxer-lab being in trouble and a seriously injured Beagle if my dogs hadn't had leashes on.
I watch this video with so much respect for you and your beautiful dogs. I learned a lot from you. Thank you so much❤
I love your honesty as a trainer. This is how it needs to be in order to work with dogs and show them you are the boss above all. It’s so hard to make people who don’t get that understand.
Jesus! I'm not good at this kind of tension with my dogs. Literally i'm sweating. (Do not misundestand me, i love this kind of videos because i learn so much!!)
I think it's really dangerous to have small dogs between the big excited dogs today.
I agree with Blondie... let's get out of here!!! xD
Big hugs for all the pack from Argentina!!
@Light 5567 Oh yes Pits do daily. New attacks everyday on pets and people.
My nerves were shot watching this, omg. So glad it didn’t escalate to a much worse situation.
just stumbled across this video while I have been having my 10 mo old Doberman at the local dog park.
Insecure owners keep their dogs leashed!! I've been there.. and learned.. the problem was ME not the dog!!!
BRAVO for your TRUTH and WISDOM
🙏🎆😊🌹
Renew Your Mind I think she or he meant it’s insecure to leash your dog at the park, there are environments that’s call for leasing & that should be obvious to all.
@@WattsUpDev - That's possible.

People are just.... dumb. Just happens when there are so many of us everywhere
jason martinez & Flint but thats what I’m sayin’! There SHOULDN’T be ANYBODY that’s dumb or oblivious.
You make it sound as if pits are the worst Dogs ever to own

Sometimes I'll say I'm going to watch the first few minutes of your video, pause it, and go take care of a few things around the house then come back and finish watching the vid. I may skip a few days because of work and other responsibilities so I just binge watch the ones I've missed. Again, this was a really fascinating vid. Thanks!
😂😂 when you wanna stress over your doggos and everyone else’s you go to a packed dog park.
I listened up until 13:04 & a good pit bull owner shouldnt take their dogs to dog parks- NOT because they “over-react” but because if something does pop off- they usually get the blame.
Yup. I never took my pit to the dog park for that very reason
So you are one of those who just waits for someone with good content to say that one thing you consider wrong, then everything else is moot. Gee
I love the comments from you about dogs behaving despite I had big breeds for years in my life I always hear something I wouldn't have realised and i like to learn for my lifetime... The clearly logic way you analyse is very good for other owners getting into it... Thank you for your work and sharing it 🙏

I watched the video a lot of times. I look for details of dog behaviour. :D
In the last fight 13:40, Blondie looked interested and went with Midnight to see what was happening but it seemed that she did not know what to do when lost Midnight into the figth.
The body language of Midnight was different than Blondie. She had her target between the eyes. She went directly to the big black dog that was "eating" a small dog.
I guess that the action of the girl with a glass of putting Midnight between her legs, snapped Midnight off.
Yes! Spot on! I rewatched it in slow mo to keep up with Rachels super quick dog body language skills
"Hit the rocks." 😂😂
I know right!!! LOL!!
that was hilarious!
I raised pits for over 20 years. One day one of your dogs will surprise you and it may not be good for you. Sometimes things get real a whole lot faster than you can react no matter how smart you think you are about aggressive dog breeds.
Your videos are the best cause u tell everything about the situation
Merrrr please don’t say things like “when a pit bull gets into it, they want to take care of it”. Don’t stereotype an entire breed. My pitty gets bullied allllllll time because he’s such a push over. He’s been attacked by labs, shepherds and collies. And he just runs to his mama every time. He’s a big baby
The exception does not change the rule. Most pitts are pretty aggressive and dominant sure with good training they can be pretty docile but at their core they are fighters.
Manny MulattoBeats agree to disagree
Manny MulattoBeats my pups core is a lamb lol
@@TS-hz4me You likely take good care of your pups. In the end even with dogs with more aggressive/dominant nature like the Akita im getting will be happy docile dogs if loved trained and cared for correctly.
Manny MulattoBeats yes, for sure, training is soooo important. I had an Akita/shepherd mix growing up!! Great dogs
I like how when u scold ur dogs u change ur voice to associate the words “bad dog” with growling so it’s not just random words to the dog
Your channel is a breath of fresh air. Thank you!
Lol “ I don’t see nothing” omg that was sooo funnnyyyyy, but it’s sooooo true
Apostolos Kontos Dogmatic. I love Pit Bulls too....and we all need knowledge.
Pintail68 your right with pit balls are well behaved dogs all depends on the owner and how they bring them up too
Dana Tunbridge Generally I find all Bull terriers breeds tend to be more defensive than offensive. Over here in the UK a lot of people walk around with their Staffordshire’s off the lead/leash in the street. Obviously with some dogs you can’t but then if that’s the case then it’s down to the owner to discern the dogs character as some dogs will attack a lot of the time no matter how well you train them.
The problem is when they actually chose to be trouble makers it ends very very bad .
After the 1st fight I wanted to scream GET UR EFFIN DOG, MANE!!!!!!🤬
I mean, PULL UR PANTS UP, GRAB OL BOY AND GOOOOOO🤭🙋🏼♀️
the little dogs caused the biggest and realest fight there but I didn't hear you going on a 10 minute rant about that
Probably because the rat terrier isn't trying to dominate everything that moves.
Kenzie Mimzi thats irrelevant. THEY caused the fight.
Okay, but she's not focused on who causes fights in the dog park. She's talking about their behavior and how they're disturbing the other dogs.
maybe you didn't watch the whole video cause she def did lol try again
"That rat terrier is a problem"
I need one Rachel to narrate my life and people behaviour. Please... 🤣 You're brilliant!
U did say too soon. I have pits and I could never take them to a dog park. That pit didn't like it when the owner was petting Blondie. ❤️❤️❤️
My dogs try to do the same thing BUT my dogs get checked. They have never been in a fight because I am a responsible owner and know my pits!
This is very interesting, thank your for recording and explaining the behaviours
