I saw the Moody Blues in concert in 1972 in the Baltimore Civic Center and they brought the house down when they played this song! Saw them 21 more times over the years and truly fell in love with my wife dancing to this song!

That is an understatement. My son (was 18 yo at the time) took my mother (74 yo at the time) to see The Moody Blues in concert. It was mom's only Rock concert ever, but she loved this song in particular and would play the album/cassette Days of the Future Past over and over. I first had the album in 1973. My niece at two years old passed away in 1974 and my mom would think of her when she heard this song. That's what she said, but I now understand she would also cry over it for my father who had left her for another. Mom and dad are passed now and my son is 40. Hmmm, think it's time for my grandson to know The Moody Blues. Not sure he does - He's 19 yo.

I was born in 1957. I discovered the Moody Blues when I was about in my late teens to 20.
This song tugs at my heartstrings & I just want to tear my heart out, it moves me. The swell of the music, a crescendo of height. No song has ever moved me to this extreme before or continues to today. Only Nights in White Satin can bring me to this emotion almost like an organism. There I said it.
    Thank you Moody Blues.

See, growing up hearing it on the radio I always thought it was "Knights in White Satin," which changes the whole thing in my head. I've always listened to it and gotten the feeling of a melancholy, chivarlric romance. Doomed Arthurian warriors composing their final letters and poems, colorful banners hanging limp in the rain. Just beautiful dark fantasy vibes.

    Nights in white satin
    Never reaching the end
    Letters I've written
    Never meaning to send
    Beauty I'd always missed
    With these eyes before
    Just what the truth is
    I can't say anymore
    'Cause I love you
    Yes, I love you
    Oh, how I love you
    Gazing at people
    Some hand in hand
    Just what I'm going through
    They can't understand
    Some try to tell me
    Thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be
You will be in the end
    And I love you
    Yes, I love you
    Oh, how I love you
    Oh, how I love you
    Nights in white satin
    Never reaching the end
    Letters I've written
    Never meaning to send
    Beauty I'd always missed
    With these eyes before
    Just what the truth is
    I can't say anymore

    Oh, how I love you

This was my parents' song, they would always play it and we'd listen to it as a family. 6 years ago now, when I was only 10 years old, my dad passed away from cancer and we had this played at his funeral as they were carrying his casket out of the church. Even afterwards, I would walk into our lounge room and my mum would be listening to it while crying and I would go and silently join here, it was just our way of remembering him and the love that we all shared, all in one simple yet powerful song.
Edit: On another note, I find it kinda freaky that the music producer for this song shares the same name with my dad, Tony Clarke

What a powerful love song, with a heartfelt, emotional and poignant meaning. It’s hauntingly beautiful, and the singer is so handsome! Who could break his heart?! It’s a timeless classic and will forever be played by many. I wish he loved me! I wouldn’t break his heart! I actually listened more closely to the lyrics this time, and it’s stayed with me since. It reaches into the soul and psyche. It truly is a masterpiece. My Mum used to play it when I was little. I was born in 1959, and I’m glad I was raised with the best musicians and songs. Amazing!

So sorry, your post made me cry.
I too lost my dad this year (2021). He had lived a full life to the age of 95, he was still healthy, never took medication, but decided he wanted to leave this earth it was changing too much, and he just willed his death. He was a WWII vet, I was an accident that came along late in his life. He was so stoic yet a very loving man. A man from another time with blazing red hair (that turned white after he was 85yrs). I still miss him, his strength, infectious laugh, and love for animals.

The first part of your statement is so very true. And those of us who were young at the time could not have been privy to a better youth full of the best music, tho' I love Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw, as well as Cole Porter, and anyone named Gershwin, as well. However, when this song came out the Viet Nam war was raging, the civil rights and women's rights campaigns were raging, there were the Democratic National Convention riots in Chicago, and assassinations during the period in the USA included Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, Dr Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy. Yeah, people still had good manners in general, then, but it was not in any way peaceful.

One of the comments says, "this song is a drug", That's an understatement!!! I was a freshman in college when this came out. Didn't graduate, life got in the way. But this song will always be a part of me, even in my 70's. That's where I am now, but I'll never forget those carefree days.

I just finished reading the comments so many have written about this beautiful song, and I smile, because as many of them write how this song makes them reminisce, this song became my favorite song when I was 13, (I'm now 63 ) when I was out on one of my first dates, and my Dad picked us up from the movies, and this song came over the radio, as we drove home. It was the first time I fell in love with a girl.

"Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore".
    My husband's dad passed in 2011. 😢
    This was his favorite song.💗
    He served in Vietnam.
    He said:
"I always wanted to go back and see the pretty trees." 🌴🌱🌴🌱
But he could never afford to go back to see it.💰
    😭
Before he passed, he gave his younger son, my husband, a tiny baby pine tree.🌴
    I'll never forget that.😖
