The fact that "The Darkness" (Yes The Corruption has a name now actually It is named "The Darkness") was able to catch up to Sonic and get him and corrupted him was terrifying He was too slow!. The Darkness can actually catch up to anyone no matter how fast you go even as a ability as well So Sonic's running is useless sadly!.

There’s a damn good chance it caught sonic similar to how Furnace did in Prey, it got in front of sonic and caught his ass because he couldn’t slow down or couldn’t avoid it in time, likely not paying attention to what’s ahead of him.

Probably similar to how Galeem's light was able to catch up to Sonic as well, but Boom Sonic is one of Sonic's weaker variations.
