Since the concept of Alternate Universes at it's most basic is that even a small change can create a new universe. Like choosing to take a shortcut that is dangerous vs choosing the safe route to get somewhere, or even something as basic as choosing between cereals.
Essentially for every choice one makes, an alternate universe exists where you made a different choice or there was a different outcome for something.
