- How and where did democracy develop? This animated timeline starts in ancient Greece, and winds through the Roman Empire, Middle Ages, via the French Revolution to modern times.
From the upcoming graphic novel 'World Domination - a Discovery in Comics' by Margreet de Heer.
Animation by Margreet de Heer using Sparkol.
That animated hand was going to trigger a seizure so I turned it off
genuinely loved this video. loved the music, the animations...great job:)
The world needs more people like you.
Ancient Romans: First they were ruled by a monarchy, untill the people had enough of it. They set up some form of democracy becoming a republic. That democracy was mainly for the Roman ellite, and would lead to corruption by money. But still a democracy of sort. That was until it became an empire with their Emperors.
Middle Ages: Poland had a democractic monarchy where the ellite would vote in a king, pretty much like we vote for a president. And before the partitioning of Poland, the polish ellite voted for changes but that system was bad and easily corruptable by foriegn money.
This video really helped me with the topic democracy and for my end-of-the-year presentation, I took this as my script and I hope to get an A, yet to present it. Great work! Can you tell us what tool u used to do this awesome vid?

what is this song?
Thanks alot , it wae very informative video ♥️
Thank you.
But why did Plato think Democracy with turn into Tyranny???
Someone help me please
Basically, it's the idea that a moral people group will vote for good things and maintain order while an immoral people group will vote solely for their self-interest and result in chaos. Once there is a breakdown of society, a strong individual will arise as a tyrant/king/autocrat.
The American founding fathers talk a lot about the Greek cycles of government, which is why the US governmental system tries to balance different forms of government rather than relying on a directly democratic model.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you'd like me to break down any of those points further. I'm a high school history and civics teacher!
@@jessicavarvil9489 what do you mean by" theUS tries different forms of government"?
@@jessicavarvil9489 Wow. Thank you. You sound like a most excellent teacher. You should do a YT history civics channel.
@@jessicavarvil9489 the US Government surely can teach us a thing or two about "balance". Secondly if your founding fathers didn't really take democracy so seriously why is the US preaching democracy allover the world?
Because he was wrong. He was wrong about a lot of stuff. Sadly, he had a huge impact on Western culture
The historical inaccuracies in this video are clear. Firstly the people did not write the manga Carta or force King John to sign it that was the Barons or in other words the aristocracy. Secondly Napoleon became First consul for life by a referendum in France. He may have effectively ended democracy but he was elected by the people of France. There are other such errors and historical videos like this should at least be accurate.
alg me puede traducir el video plsss.
Thx you saved me 1 houer
IT IS VERY NICE AND IWE UNDERSTAND
Cool.
*This was just amazing!!👍😍🤩*
Are mayors inline with direct democracy or representative democracy?
Well technically there is only 1 mayor, so this question makes no sense...
Before the Yanks wrote themselves a constitution the English Civil war
produced many democratic groups : Levellers, Diggers, etc
Some espoused ideas about redistributing wealth and land and others that
land and property should be held communally (communism).
I think you will find democracy has existed for tens of thousands of years : long before the Greeks.
I say this because Pirate ships and Bandits in general often used a democratic system for decision making . It is so natural it would be hard to imagine groups of hominids hadn't employed it since language began say 200K yrs ago.
I believe in democracy. The thing that I dont favor about is too much looseness of rules because not everyone has best intentions. Safety of the country must always comes first. I dont believe in too much openness. Democracy is different from that. That;s just my own take on that. And I know its a hard task esp. to very large countries but they keep improving as they're learning more.
My husband always talks about how much he dislike freedom and democracy but I realized that its actually much better.
File Sender - Do you (and does your husband!) have a good understanding of the alternatives? - rule by a king or dictator, or by a small number of the ultra-wealthy. It’s not radical to believe in democracy

Democracy isn't perfect but it is far better than dictatorship or anarchy.
democracy is both of those built in itself

VOTES FOR CHILDREN
Daryl Avenell Yes, and as irrational and immature the youth will be, we will only get more demagogues that feed the interest of the ignorant public rather than what an ideal nation needs. You pathetic Americans....
This is kinda shit and glosses over the Roman republic, the Athenian oligarchies, the British parliament and its inspiration on the USA’s constitution
This is just an opinion piece 😂
Awful music

first to tell you to shut up
and your baby too
democracy came from the indegnous people in ethiopia (oromos)
And then trump was elected
Bush couped in 2000
Who seriously believes having the artist's hand wiggling and wriggling across the screen adds to comprehension of the subject? Just because fake animation making these complex illustrations seem to flow magically from the pen are possible doesn't mean fake animation should be used. Seriously! I am disinclined to believe any information that is clearly faked the way this cartoon is clearly faked.

Whose this native american refer to? Indians? Or the colonies from another land?
thats annoying music makes boring!
The roots of democracy started with the Early Israelites. Deuteronomy 1:13
Roots
Actually it’s a republic. It wasn’t a small group, it was 12 tribes of small groups.
Imperial Democracy and direct democracy often mesh with each other to produce this one result;dictatorship by a ruling class.
Imperial Democracy lends itself to laws that are too numerous, lengthy, and complicated. direct democracy lends itself to laws that are too much based on reckless generalizations and simplistic assumptions.
The law is too important to be left to "lawyers"! I have stated that in written letters for nearly 30 years. However, only in the last year and a half did I realize that the law should not be left to the "common man".
The "common man",while entitled to rights that the Bill of Rights state he or she is entitled to, should not be allowed to vote for candidates for public office en masse. They simply do not have the maturity, the objectivity, the sophistication, the scope, the reasoning ability, nor a basic understanding of proper governance to make a sound choice for a candidate for public office. The "common man" are too often plagued with passions and prejudices and therefore cannot evaluate matters based on pure merit.
While obviously poll taxes and competency tests that restrict people from voting should not be allowed because those restrictions promote the highly flawed model of Imperial Democracy, there is only one effective and principled way to implement a proper filtration system.
That is public balloting. The people who care about the political process and the general welfare will much more likely embrace the burden of disclosure in order to support transparent governance. This is what the Founding Fathers wanted. We The People should honor their desires.
Good stuff! One problem though...
America is not a democracy.

Representative Republic✊✊
Correction: We're not a direct democracy. However, our federal democratic republic style of government is still a type of democracy.
@@josephstarkey8183 I've heard Republic with democratic representation. Or democratic republic. Democratic being an adjective there.
