      Hi Richard good video. Lovely guitars - food for thought. I saw a particularly tasty Gold Top in the intro - Wow! If oly I was in the market. One day soon. How many of those OM's for eg are they making per month, do you know? And do they do a 000 type? thanks

      You're a lovely guy, as I've said before, Richard. Just so honest about yourself. It's a shame that, like myself and so many others, you feel insecure. I could say don't but we both know it's not as easy as all that. Love the guitars. Would love the Rosewood but my budget couldn't possibly stretch to that. I said to "The King in waiting" Richard II that I wish I'd bought a Rosewood several years ago before the costs shot up. Oh well.

    Furch or Eastman if you could have only one? I completely agree about the looper. I just got a looper and it’s really helped me practice. I got tired of playing other peoples songs and the looper allows me to get creative and make up my own songs and solo over them.

    Don't know if this helps, but my understanding of torrefied tops is that they're subject to a kind of specialised baking process. Seemingly this process is executed under such very specific conditions designed to cause the crystallization of the minerals within the wood itself to 'set-off'. Apparently / allegedly this replicates the ageing process very faithfully and so yields a more 'played-in' and aged tone.
    Got to say though, irrespective of any torrifying process, that rosewood 20 OM sounds absolutely outrageous! Nice video, as per...

    Could you do a comparison between Furch and Eastman, rosewood and spruce models ?

    • @RichardsGuitarshop

      Interestingly I NEARLY did that but I felt the double Eastman OM - two models at each end of the price scale was another angle. I have a beautiful Furch Vintage 1 OM SR model which is very similar price etc. and would make a superb comparison. I almost feel guilty playing them against each other as I love both so much but yes that would be a great video.

I’m only going to buy one more guitar in my life. I’m looking at the Eastman Ac 222 Ce and the Cort Gold A8. Which is the better guitar. I’ve been unable to find either so I haven’t played either. I’m looking for a good sound and ease of playing. What do you suggest.

    • @RichardsGuitarshop
      @RichardsGuitarshop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@stucarr2912 OMG YES!! The Martin X series is a classic example of branding!! Laminated necks?!!! No doubt to hide the worst cut of the wood for their necks. By laminating the neck (and the very top of the headstock so you cannot see the grain there either) they totally hide very important tell tale signs of the quality of the wood. They SAY they laminate the neck for strength. Well of course this is total rubbish. They only NEED to laminate the neck because the wood they use is inferior. Its cheaper to make - end of story.
      Then they give you the Fishman Sonitone pickup. This is the same pickup Eastman put in their £299 electro! Watch my video on the PCH series and you will see a guitar for £265 that runs circles around the X series Martin.
      If you were coming to me for advice I would offer you the E1 OM, all solid woods etc. (instead of the horrible laminated back and sides on the Martin) and then we would fit (totally free of charge - professional instalation at no cost) the Fishman MAtrix pickup at £159. Total cost of your guitar £659? Which if my memory serves me right is about the same price as the Martin?
      So you can buy a laminated back and sided guitar with the cheapest Fishman Sonitone...... or you can buy a HAND MADE all solid wood guitar with a top of the range Matrix VT pickup (as used by Lowden on £5000 guitars) for the same price. Hmmmm..... you would THINK it was a no brainer right? Welcome to the world of MARKETING!
      It was amazing and refreshing to see Eastman featuring on the covers of both Guitarist Magazine and Guitar magazine this month winning guitar of the year awards for different models including the E1D (the big brother to the E1 OM) for best acoustic guitar in its class.
      Have I waffled again!!! Its only excitment .... sorry....

    Nicely demoed, Richard. My previous account, Guitarman, got hacked by my granddaughter about 4 months ago and I now have a new account that I’m not letting her use! Lol
    So you don’t push the Taylors and Martins. I know you’re a huge fan of Eastman. I believe the mahogany is mostly responsible for the tone and the sustain.
    Are tone and sustain the primary reasons that you seemingly don’t support the Martin and Taylor camps?

    • @RichardsGuitarshop
      @RichardsGuitarshop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. Thanks for your feedback. Things go a little deeper than that and actually I don't think there is any one source of information I can point you to any more online that explains it. In a nutshell I have been doing this 24 years and at one point I was selling 10 guitars a day 7 days a week - most mainstream brands. I found it suffocating and I ended up resenting my sales and who I was and my industry generally! I felt it was deceitful - that may sound harsh but I tend to over dramatize my feelings!!! So now... I ONLY sell guitars I would recommend to my best friend - that is pretty much it. If I can genuinely love it - I sell it. Taylor = sterile & expensive for what you are buying. Martin = massively variable and you can never really tell what you are going to get until its in your hand and you play it. Not great for making genuine heartfelt recommendations. Eastman.... they are just a joy to be around. A Fraction of the price of the American equivilent yet everything and more in terms of pleasure and of course quality and tone. So definitely a guitar I could recommend to my best friend! I should do a little video on my 24 years in the industry but I figured it would look a bit self indulgent and probably boring for many!!! lol

    • @robbiejguitarist
      @robbiejguitarist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My friends at Brook have always claimed that the back and sides have minimal effect in tone, it’s more to do with the top, though I have to say my experience in playing a lot of different Brooks contradicts that. For sustain though you really need a nice dose hard wood like rosewood or cocobolo. My yew backed guitar by contrast has very little sustain, but has superb clarity, great for baritone or low tunings. As for tops, my experience so far says that Adirondack definitely produces the sound that inspires me the most.
      That E20 sounds amazing- would love to try one, or hear one played fingerstyle 😊
