I like being able to explain the original St. Nicholas story to children, but I'm torn on the Santa Claus fantasy for the under age 8 crowd. Kids will find out sooner or later (usually when other kids challenge them and tell them he's not real and they're being immature babies for believing in it). I never accused my parents of lying when the myth of Santa fell away - though I admit I was sad about it for a brief while. Yes, Christmas is about Christ, but I think there's room for both. Reality is for a lifetime, and a bit of fantasy couldn't hurt in childhood.
Those are some good reasons why to tell your kids that Santa is not real! Thank you for telling me that you are awesome you are amazing too your kids!
