As an American and French citizen, I can tell you after living in the USA for over 35 years, European demeanor regarding this type of joke is so refreshing compare to the American behavior. The réaction in the USA, men or women would be to punch or use verbal Abuse. Seen and heard similar situation I wish I would never have heard.
I think the difference is in the states people can own guns and there is a lot of threats. The states is many times bigger than the countries in Europe which means more problems. More issues. More crime. When someone does this it scares people because we don’t know if it’s harmless or not. I too wish we could react like this but what do you expect when we have school shootings and gang violence and a plethora of other issues that have traumatized Americans all these years.
