When you did the shot where you walked back into your room, I was sold on the mic. The thing is, in a small room it picks up a lot of echo, and it sounded kinda bad honestly... But outside, or in large buildings or wherever there is no real echo, it performs really well
Thinking of starting a channel and contemplating if this is ok for studio recording? Getting this mic would also make it flexible if I wanted to vlog videos too. Although you sounded clear it just wasn't comparable to the blue yeti, but I'm thinking for someone starting out the rode go would be fine for studio recording. Would also make life easier for me too when editing.

The problem I been having is all rooms acoustics are different. I'm looking for something that will help to make videos sound clearer and less echoey. Also will this pick up crowd laughter well too if the camera is set up in the back center of the room or will it cancel out laughter from the sides and only pick up straight down the middle. Sorry for the long question, you just see to know what you're talking about and figured you might know. Appreciated if you answer.

The best option I'm thinking due to the acoustical situation would be to wear a Lav style mic like this (bhpho.to/3mQ03za), but not not sure if you would want any part of that while performing... They also make wireless lav mics where the receiver would plug into your phone which is not on you...
If you're looking to get one for a phone, you might want to get either Rode Video Micro or Mic Me (or Me-L for lightning plug). Same concept, but more compact. Mic Me, specifically, is designed for mobile devices. Hope that helps :)
I bought this for a camcorder that had a 3.55mm and it doesn't work. Why? I can use my computer headphone/mic on that camera, it's fine. I use the RODE, nothing. I used two types, nothing. I'm confused. I see people using this for DSLR cameras, but when it comes to camcorders Canon XA11 Compact Full HD Camcorder, why won't mics like this work for it?
Think i see. My 3.5 port has no power. My headphone mic uses phantom power (pulls from the camera). The RODE has no power or phantom power. Wish they say that.

Same problem, the red cord it comes with is trash! I realized that after 2 failed corporate projects. Changed the cord and it solved the problem for me

Have you tried unscrewing the round lock for the hot shoe? That thing rotates/ tightens so the mic doesn't fall off when mounted, so it's probably screwed all the way in which is why it does not fit. Let me know how you make out please ;) Jay

I noticed it once when I was moving the cable around while holding the camera with mic mounted. If seamed like moving the cable caused it, so I didn't think it was a big deal. Since then I have heard several people complain about it.

Yeah, for sure! My room had a lot of echo, especially at distance like that. I have sound blankets and a much better set-up now though also ;)

It depends, in general during this video I was about 2-3 feet away I would say.

I have not had any trouble with it and used about 10 times of the course of 1 month. That is my limited experience ;)

Bought the mic, only to find out that it needs Phantom power, has to return it.
My camera provided the power required and it just worked... If you are trying to use with a cell phone, you probably need a different cable.
