The best thing about this frame by frame breakdown is we see how clean each frame is from an anime back in 1992 and why super got shitted on so hard.
To be fair super’s high budget fights are comparable as well, but generally speaking they’re mostly lackluster for sure.

You can literally see Final Flash for example. Cell saga one was peak hype, and super one was, kinda mid in comparison.

The reason why I love this fight so much is that it's more about physical fighting and not ki blasts. Plus, this was Studio Cockpit first display of greatness at animating a kickass figthing episode.

In Krillin's defense, I remember them establishing that most of the Z-fighters were having trouble keeping up with the fight, so it's possible he only saw a vaguely disk-shaped blur.
Nah it’s just that he never saw Frieza’s attack on namek (even though it’s copy and technically a better version of his move) and cell actually did use his move against Gohan which he caught it and destroyed it

It also depends on the fighters. Cuz goku is a more technical fighter so his fights can be broken down but someone like vegeta likes spamming ki blasts so you won’t really see hands being thrown like this

I really love the little detail how Goku is the only character who uses instant transmission in a fight, and it's so awesome seeing how different characters react and counter it either by simply brushing it off, being too fast, or just smacking the shit out of Goku.
I love that and the fact that Gohan is the only person watching to look unfazed about anything that's happening.
You put a good spin on the channels who do Anime/Pop commentary. No hate to the others but most of them just describe what we already can see with the clip rolling which feels redundant. The way you describe every minute detail is the type of excellency like a sports analyst reviewing the post-game with GREAT detail. my favorite fight in DBZ fr. The hand-to-hand was insane, and you know Goku was giving it his all. The Warp Kamehameha was a high IQ tactic as well.

Gohan vs Cell may have many emotional moment and HYPE but Goku was the one building up it up. He throw hand with Cell despite not having enough power to defeat him and manage to "impressed" Cell.
Meanwhile Gohan be like "I'm stronger than you, now get lost" and completely obliterated Cell with pure power. I'm not saying that Gohan is pathetic, he did the training to control his power otherwise he may never get this far but you gotta hand it Goku when it come to experience and passion in fighting category.
Yea goku has the best fights when it comes to throwing hands.
Gohan was only able to remove android 18 by how hard he punched. Meaning… Gohan would have only been able to defeat semi perfect cell. Once Cell returned, Gohan had a lot of help from the z fighters. They all ganged up on cell. Vegeta blindsided Cell, and Gohan had the spirit of his father behind him. It wasn’t a one on one fight. If Gohan didn’t have all of them behind him, they would’ve had no chance.
One of Goku best top five iconic fights this fight had me so hype I thought Goku was gonna win he matched cell blow for blow and was on par with cells power but even after I realized Goku wasn't as powerful he was so combat experienced he was able to match cell but this whole fight was Goku showing Gohan how cell fights...
As an adult, Cell is becoming my favorite villain.

Big facts. Gohan vs Cell on the other hand is hella Overrated. Outside murking the Cell Jrs the actual Cell vs Gohan fight has virtually no hands just alot of posturing and yelling

This channel is obviously fantastic for the frame-by-frame breakdowns that no regular watcher is going to catch, but the comedy on top of it is just peak. I was never *not* caught offguard by the random Piccolo names 💀. The stat sheets at the end always just perfect it, pun unintended.

The two most competitive fights in Dragon Ball history is this competition between Goku and Cell during the Cell Games and even later in the Buu Saga in the grudge match between Goku and Majin Vegeta.
But then again a few honorable mentions would be the battle between Goku and Frieza where Goku was literary delivering gut blows and causing internal bleeding and even later during the final battle between Goku and Majin Buu.

Cell wasn't just powerful he was very smart and a pretty damn good fighter. Frieza wasn't more then just natural raw power and coasting off his Inherent skill where Cell acually was a mastermind even if it was from the experience of his mixed fighter Genetics.

Android to Cell was goated. Cell was before all this "turn back time" and "eh Beerus likes food from Earth so there's no real threat".
Cell was an amazing idea, when I first saw him ragdoll Super Vegeta I was like "this is the most doomed the z warriors have been" then Trunks stepped in and Cell took us for a ride only to show us the futility of it.
And how they flashed scenes of Goku realizing the mistake in the time chamber as Trunks was getting outsped, that was so so fkn great. Little glimmer of hope. Leading up to secretive Goku's plan it was pretty S tier storytelling by all standards tbh.
The cell saga had those fighters mentally unstable

Absolute BEST fight in the anime. Not counting the movies, this fight was peak of technical skill and fighting in Z. Gave off mad nostalgia of the original Dragonball when skill and techniques won battles.
From Buu Saga onward it turned into a contest on who can shoot the biggest Kamehameha or transform the loudest rofl.
Super is pretty much about power ups and color changes. Can't take it serious at all.

I like how the end stats do show that even the animators for the fight were paying attention to the story - Cell was just a LIIITTLE bit stronger and faster than Goku at the time, but Goku had WAY more experience. Had they fought to the death, Goku prolly would have won.

What makes Cell stronger than Goku, even though their power levels are the same, is his regeneration from Piccolo. With each regeneration, combined with Saiyan DNA, Cell continually becomes stronger. Frieza's DNA also adds to his durability, making it seem like he doesn't take damage when attacked by Goku. Plus, he has infinite stamina.
It isn't infinite, that's why Goku threw a senzu bean at Cell before he fought Gohan.
Cell was definitely worn out by fighting Goku, Goku was definitely depleted from it!
