The day I climbed Bulchulbong Peak at Naejangsan….
The trail was steep and tricky, and no matter how far I climbed, the top seemed nowhere in sight.
After a while, I saw a sign for Bulchulam and thought, "This must be the end."
Then I noticed an elderly couple, probably in their 80s, coming down the trail.
The path I’d taken felt too dangerous to head back down, so I asked, "If I keep going up, is there another way down?"
The man smiled and said, "No, there isn’t."
I sighed and said, "I guess I’ll just have to go back down the same way."
But then, in the kindest and most cheerful voice, he said:.
"Why stop? Keep going!
It’s fine-just keep climbing!
You’ll be okay-go for it!
His warm voice and encouraging smile gave me the strength to push myself further.
When I finally reached the top, the view was absolutely breathtaking-something I never would’ve seen if I’d turned back.
I was so close to giving up, but his simple, "You’ll be okay. Keep going," was all I needed to keep moving.
Now, when I tell someone "It’s okay," I hope it carries the same warmth and kindness his words had for me that day.
