Thank you for watching carefully down to the knife detail. Yes, the knife we use is a traditional tool from shoe craftsmen here in Indonesia. Very simple yet very useful
Great video, thanks for documenting the process in so much detail. I wanted to ask about the stitching to the sole - the thread looks like it will get damaged as the tread wears away. Does this not compromise the strength of the goodyear welt?
Hi David. Thanks so much for watching. From the time of wearing the shoes, the threads in some parts will wear out, this will not be a problem because the soles are stitch and also glued, besides that the thread knot are also between the layers, the sole will not breakdown. This method has also been used by shoemakers for a long time.
@@ortodoux I am interested in finding a glue with "low" density. I am currently using Den Braven glue, which has this honey-type density, and I am having a hard time applying evenly before it dries out! I am mostly making bags and pouches, so I glue layers of leather together. Not skilled enough to start making shoes. Any chance you got a glue suggestion for me? Many thanks.
Hello to France, quel travail, c'est magnifique et toujours heureux de voir que les gestes d'antan soient toujours enseignés et appris! Bravo! Que Dieu bénisse Ortodoux!
Amazing boots!! Beautiful! The thread going over the treads will be in contact with the ground and wear through on the first hike. This is obvious and so therefore a decision has been made to do it. I'm curious about how/why that is the choice?

Thanks for posting. I’m learning how to resole shoes and this video was very helpful. During the outsole stitch-down process, how are you able to make the holes by hand. Will a good stitching awl penetrate the upper, midsole, and the thick vibram outsole? Or do you use another tool to make the holes for stitching?
You are so welcome! Yes we only use traditional craftsman tool (needle) to make hole and then stitching. Yes, a good stitching awl on the market will penetrate from upper to outsole. The Vibram Montagna 1100 is not too hard, or you can watch the details at 06.42 on the video. Have a good day
No machines for you!!! I really wish I could have seen ever single step of the build, even if the video had taken two hours. Especially the stitching through the outsole. How the heck were you able to pierce the two midsole layers, as well as the rubber outsole by hand??? You must be able to punch through a car door! Amazing, thank you!
punch thtrough a car door?! sure! hahaha kidding. thank you for such kind words, so flattered and honored. we will consider creating a full version per session for each build step. have a blast day!
actually the knife is a traditional tool of local craftsmen in our area. We used to call it "peso sapatu". These knives are made by hand and sold in the Indonesian market. Thank You

I never ever saw in my life a Hand Shoemaker with a glove-wearing for heavy shoes lasting, this is not normal. Also, the tools are very unusual to me for shoemaking, I am really wondering what kind of a Master Shomaker has taught this kind of shoemaking?
We apologize if in the process of working on our boots does not match what you expected. we are still learning, and we hope to improve our skills. thank you

Amazing quality of work! Keep it up. I’d like to ask: what type of glue do you use? Thank you and greetings from Greece 🙏🏼
Thank you very much Sir. We use different glue for every step. For the upper, the sole or the outsole?

Is there a special purpose for that extra flap on the inside or is it pure asthetics?
I really love the look and quality but that flap made me wonder😉
that is a false tongue, serves to protect the tongue from dust and debris. and it's removable according to your needs
Hello, really love your content. I was curious to know what the blade is called you are using? And where to purchase one? Thank you
actually the knife is a traditional tool of local craftsmen in our area. We used to call it "peso sapatu". These knives are made by hand and sold in the Indonesian market. Thank You
How often does your blade slip when shaping the foot bed and you scar the leather?
never. and we are very careful with the upper. the direction of cutting must be outward so as to minimize the risk
Beautiful!! What is that type of knots surrounding the front sides of the boots?
Chain stitch
wow thanks man for helping
chain stitch, famously showed up on norvegese construction
Question is shoe sizing the same fit as US or does this run narrower? Good quality I wear boots all the time. Very good job
Simply check your size here store.ortodoux.com/size-chart. Hope someday you will wear our boots
Ok, at the beginning what are the nails going into, I don’t see anywhere for them to go but into the foot area
Hi Anders, the nail will bend when it meets the base of the shoelast (it has a metal plate base) and will form like a hook. Thank you
Wow! Top class awesome 💚
Thankyou 🙏
Marvelous!!!
The only thing that I didn't like is stitches on front lower sole.
