When I first finished the game, I was kinda dissapointed, then over the next week, I thought about it, just simply sat down, and thought about the game, and I just realized so many things, that I started to like it more, I replayed (2 times now) it and I absolutely love it :D
*SPOILERS* There was no way to prove that the surgery that would kill Ellie would result in the Fireflies being able to create a vaccine. In fact, it's likely when Marlene said it would that she was lying to try to get Joel to hand her over.
WindWankers Why/ Because she just wanted to kill Ellie? Or because she saw it as the best chance to save the human race? Frankly, her choice was more moral than Joel's.
ExBruinsFan Think about it from Joel's perspective. He already lost his daughter to humanity, so why would he give up someone he had formed a bond with that's just as strong as the one he had with Sarah for a chance to save a species that's managed to do more damage to the world that's ever been done to it in an incredibly short amount of time?
I want to meet Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley SO bad...and have them sign my TLoU artbook. AND I need Ashley Johnson to sign it as well...already got Troy Baker.
i know man, i thought it was going to be like a horror game and i don't like those type of games and it really was not a horror at all. i have never been so emotionally invested in a game in my life like i have with this game
Naughty dog has shown that a tight driven narrative can carry a game from beginning to end. Story in games are becoming more and more interactive an ND as a studio deserves credit for pioneering such a shift in storytelling in games medium. Keep up the great work
Angel Pygs no thats not what we need. The magic of the first game was ellie and joels bond. Breaking that would severely hurt the game, it could and probably still would be a great game, but it wouldnt reach the levels of the original
These guys know how to tell a good full interactive story that's engaging enough to keep your butt cheeks clenched throughout the entire journey. Last of Us deserves all the praise that it has been given
The best video-game ever made! I would also like to commend IGN for giving this game the Game of the Year award, and not the worn out GTA. Thank you for acknowledging this masterpiece, instead of jumping on the bandwagon like many game publications did. This game makes people reflect on life itself. It makes us care for the characters as if they were real people. It makes us follow with excitement, sadness, hope, frustration and happiness the whole story from beginning to end, savoring each moment. Please, continue Joel and Ellie's story on the PS4. I don't mind waiting 3 or 4 years for it, but please, don't let it end here. Their story couldn't just have ended like that.
Oh c'mon, you're just gonna say GTA V was a piece of unoriginal, garbage bullshit and jump on the bandwagon of "It's popular so it sucks" hate? You probably didn't enjoy and love the game as much as others did and I feel sorry for you because of that. (No, I really don't) GTA V was also a masterpiece! It was amazing, the scale, the freedom, the concept, all of it. GTA V also deserved it, but I'm not gonna go out and say "TLOU" doesn't deserve it" because it did. Just stop saying GTA V doesn't deserve any GOTY awards becasue that's not fair to us who loved it and you're just being ignorant whenever people you say that. And how DARE you say GTA is worn out!? One more thing, you say many game publications jumped on the bandwagon for GTA V and how awesome it is, but I could honestly say the same thing about TLOU as it's (somehow) won more awards, more people are loving it more than hating it, if you ask me, TLOU isn't worn out, but it's extremely overrated. (Not as overrated as CoD though ;) )
Having been a GTA fan since 1997 I can say I am unbiased regarding this. I own all GTA games, all of them, and I love them, however, TLOU really exceeded all expectations. You might think its overrated, but millions of people disagree with you. In the end, its a matter of opinion, I suppose.
This was the best and most natural interview I think Greg Miller has ever done. You could just see how there was so much weight lifted off their shoulders from all those 10's and they were just fucking around and having a good time.
I absolutely loved this game. I was suuuper invested in it and I thought the story and controls and gameplay was amazing and fun... but holy shit... the ending left me feeling empty. I wanted...something else.
The ending is amazing when you think about it. Ellie knew Joel was lying, she just didnt want to leave him and go back on her own. Plus Joel lied because at the start of the game the world took everything from Joel. So at the end, Joel takes everything from the world.

These are very entertaining developers to listen to. Theyre very laid back like Bungie for example. I dont own a PlayStation. I wish i could play this game so bad. Ive played Crash and Jak and Daxter tho and i loved those.
Trust me. You don't wannna play this game. Trust me. Go watch a no commentary playthrough of it and save your money for a REAL game. You will see why once you have seen the game from start to finish....
E ZEE You probably sucked at this game if you played it. Or you are too afraid to try it out so you make excuses. You sound like my little 16 year old cousin who makes excuses why he should not play games for this and that reason, yet plays Assassins Creed that rehashes itself over and over again each new game.
I spent the past two days watching the entire walkthrough on IGN. I just finished the last video a minute ago so you can imagine how happy I am to see this week's Up At Noon.
It's all about opinion, I loved the hell out of this game personally. The play, story, characters, hell even the creators. If someone believes its the best game ever, it is to them. You don't have to take it so personally people. Talking about the "Sony Ponies?" Don't read the reviews if you're gonna be a dick. Again, all about opinion....
(Part 2) There's a reason why people remember the greatest single player experiences, because they combine narrative, atmosphere and gameplay to create something amazing. The games hailed as the best of all time are all single player games. Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid and Shadow of the Colossus.
There were points at which I thought the game was wallowing in its own nihilism. "Hey, everything sucks, humanity sucks, hey, look at how everything sucks and humanity sucks! Et cetera." Yeah, I get it. It was an extraordinary game, but Uncharted 2 has way more replay value for me because it's...fun.
valinor100 Yes, this game is depressing but its supposed to be. The 2 games in recent history I loved the most are GTA 5 and The Last Of Us. These 2 games are polar opposites in every way but just looking at atmosphere GTA 5 is happy, sunny and funny and TLOU is dark, bleak and seriously not funny and I enjoy both just as much and both have equal replay value for that reason alone. But you know, maybe you are just a happy fellow and that is awesome :)
hmm? I haven't experienced really any bugs other than the random map twitch, where part of the screen flashes white really fast and goes back to normal. I'm almost done with my 3rd playthrough.
Ending was definitely justified and fit the characters. It was meant to be morally challenging, and it was. Loved every second of it. 10/10 and my GOTY pick.
It's not the ending anyone hoped for, but really its the ending that hits home the hardest and really kicks you back into reality and what mankind is actually like, honestly there would be no real happy ending, someone had to suffer. I think I would have felt sad either way.
If you thought the ending sucked you literally played 10 hours and STILL don't understand the character of Joel. After Ellie saved him thier bond was cemented.
i dont think there will be a sequel naughty dog said they had no plans for future installments in a interview a year or so back so i guess u dont have to worry about a mass effect ending and plus i think the last of us dosnt need a sequel it ended really good everything joel said was true exept for one thing and tht is about the fireflies giving up for looking for a cure. this game brought out man tears more than once this game is pure gold and is a worthy title for a GOTY nominee
Troy Baker and Nolan North should both be in a game as main characters cast together as a duo on some adventure! Imagine the interplay, the comedy, THE TALENT!
Definitely a masterpiece. The gameplay was great! The story was amazing. The multiplayer actually had a point to it. And it made me feel like I had to think before I acted. And most of the games I've played my team worked together like a team should.
I felt like the ending needed a little bit more but they're right it was an honest ending because the character after going on such a long journey decided to go with what he thought was best. The Last of Us truly deserves all the 10/10 reviews and definatley has my vote for Game of the year.
Those giraffes were more symbolic then everything in Bioshock Infinite. They had so much elegance yet at the same time a very deep meaning to them. Without them the plot would have been nothing!
Unless the wall is too high, he's usually able to pull himself up. When he does need help getting up, it's because the wall is too high for him to even reach in the first place, hence why he needs someone on top to help him get a grip. Also, doing pullups is alot easier than actually pulling yourself up so your whole upper body is above the edge. Unless you have good momentum (by doing a wall run) and have good grip with your feet it's extremely physically demanding.
The developers were saying that they wanted to give Joel some powers to make the gameplay over-the-top, but they said that it would mess up the narrative. If you actually play the game and witness the story then you'll understand.
I'll remove my comment. Clearly everyone is seeing the wrong comment. I've admitted the game looks great based on the plot I've reviewed, what I'm saying is I wouldn't consider paying $60 for a game that will last me 18 hours. I've payed $20 for Minecraft and I've been playing it for two years. Anyways, this comment has got me into enough trouble. I've replied to nearly 20 comments replying to this comment over the past 3 weeks. Peace.
yeah, the ending was tough for me too, the only thing i liked about it (after my initial rage response) was that it left it open too a sequel.. with the major cliffhanger.. but it kind of fits too cause they even hint too it earlier on in the game after you get the truck from bill and ellie is sitting in the back seat reading a comic, and she spouts out something about how great the comic was and how it was a good read, but the only thing she didn't like was that it said "to be continued" at end
What was hardcore about it? Are you serious? Joel saved one little girl, the one little girl that could save HUMANITY, simply because he couldn't survive without something worth fighting for. The ending was brilliant. Anyone can say, "oh, I'd allow the girl to die, it's for humanity after all." But it'd be nearly impossible to do in reality.
This game was amazing, i highly recommend everyone to play this. The ending was very human. It made you really think, if you were in this type of outbreak, would you do what they are doing in their shoes?
Last of Us is my favourite game of all time. i wasn't expecting too much from it, but when I got it, I was blown away and taken by surprise. The ending was perfect. It didn't leave me wanting more, but completely satisfied. Its amazing, and everybody needs to experience that game.
It took me about 10 hours to finish it, but it had so much depth on the story that it is, to me, like those mind movies you watch and buy a blu-ray but every now and then you wan to experience again to see if you catch even more info from it. (kinda spoiler example): one of the villains is actually introduced on the begging half of the story, but you just start the "quest" of that character close to the end of the game. If you are going to try it, a tip is to take close eye on notes and diaries.
ikr. the story, presentation, characters, atmosphere are all excellent but i'm surprised how tactical the gameplay is. I love that. Everything is perfect.
my perfect ending: they find a cure. shows joel singing and teaching ellie how to swim. also they are living in a nice home and the world is recovering from the infected
They already said that they dont really want a sequel. But they said even if they did it wouldnt be about Joel and Ellie.Thankfully though they are making single player DLC for The Last of Us so hopefully they can continue from the ending.
I read a spoiler a few months ago that said that in the end, Joel turns and Ellie has to kill him. I'm so glad it was a lie, i enjoyed the story much more not knowing what was happening.
let's be realistic here, The last of us is a really down to earth game, ellie was never going to survive or be revived as the instant the surgery was complete, the cordyceps would have taken over her brain.
actually I red that Joel died before I played the game, and when he fell on that pipe, I was like omg this is it, and when it wasn't I had the best time of my gaming life, and start playing it again to enjoy every single moment of it
I meant surrogate daughter, and yeah I understood the ending. My gripe is that it destroyed the sense of hope. It feels like everyone just gives up, and while that is indeed understandable and I have since come to terms with it, its still a bummer.
I was just stating my opinion in a rational, polite matter. Seriously, you guys care too much. It's like I've hurt your feelings or something...wait, did I?
The graphics is THE best on consoles, due to the fact Naughty Dog pushed the limits of the aging PS3 hardware. The acting, the sound, the dialogue, the world, the characters, the story, everything is just amazing!
as they said the ending is honest. Joel invested so much of himself into Ellie just like he did with his daughter. He would rather let Ellie live and be with her than 'try' for a cure and have nothing.
There is replayability. The story and gameplay go together, you're not just getting one or the other. I don't know what you expect out of a realistic survival game.
*SPOILER* Why do some people not like the ending of this game? The whole point of the game was keeping Ellie alive and Joel, being the badass he is, fucks everyone up at the end to make Ellie stay alive. He did what he had to do for someone that, even though he hasn't said it, loves Ellie by the end. The ending is beautiful and perfect and I would be glad to see a sequel. Naughty dog would be the ones to make a sequel as brilliant as the first. Nuff said.
[part 1] If you think of what the game really is all about you'll understand that it's about the relationship between Joel and Ellie in an ending world of violence and corruption, where survival is all that matters. You don't need "Zombies" in it to tell this story. What's precise is, this story didn't needed "Infected" in it, and it could have been better without it.
The game plays far better than anythings the trailers can show. In Uncharted you get the two best weapons you can find and then you are fully ready to win the fire fight. In the Last of Us you get all your gear ready, make all you mods and consumables, and still get you ass handed to you. You NEVER feel like you dominated a fight. It is rough and dirty. And I love it^^
I know what you mean, and I felt that way too, it really did feel sad when Ellie confirmed she was willing to die as well, but lets have a look at the only alternative, she sacrifices herself, Joel would probably commit suicide because he's a guy on the edge, and honestly The Fireflies will become the next race of bad guys as they have access to a cure because Marlene in reality is a rather selfish person, thinking only of her own survival.
without spoiling, Joels decisions are not exactly heroic in many parts of the game but he does what most of us would do in those situations. He is not made out to be a Hero or even a nice guy hes human. I enjoyed the ending because Joel doesnt feel like a character anymore, hes as alive as you and I.
After this the PS3 can end in pride! The Last Of Us was THE BEST i have played to this day.

The only thing I didn't like about this game is that it ended.
Who says it did?
Naughty Dog proved with their DLC: Left Behind that they could've easily given you a fantastic ending. I'm sure they got something planned.
Played the game roughly 8 times, I'm playing on grounded now. Still amazing.

I've replied to nearly 20 comments replying to this comment over the past 3 weeks. Peace.
yeah, the ending was tough for me too, the only thing i liked about it (after my initial rage response) was that it left it open too a sequel.. with the major cliffhanger.. but it kind of fits too cause they even hint too it earlier on in the game after you get the truck from bill and ellie is sitting in the back seat reading a comic, and she spouts out something about how great the comic was and how it was a good read, but the only thing she didn't like was that it said "to be continued" at end
did this beautiful man just quote better off dead? So much respect right now
I love the ending is so honest because it sticks true to the characters and it really is a twist that no one saw coming
It made you really think, if you were in this type of outbreak, would you do what they are doing in their shoes?
whats the opening music?
what do you mean beyond? Beyond as in a going further?
Last of Us is my favourite game of all time.
i wasn't expecting too much from it, but when I got it, I was blown away and taken by surprise. The ending was perfect. It didn't leave me wanting more, but completely satisfied.
Its amazing, and everybody needs to experience that game.
it was so tense that I never felt tired once when I played.
Greg what is the white think on your hair? should I be worried?
It took me about 10 hours to finish it, but it had so much depth on the story that it is, to me, like those mind movies you watch and buy a blu-ray but every now and then you wan to experience again to see if you catch even more info from it. (kinda spoiler example): one of the villains is actually introduced on the begging half of the story, but you just start the "quest" of that character close to the end of the game.
If you are going to try it, a tip is to take close eye on notes and diaries.
You obviously didn't get the point. My priority isn't video games, it's school.
ikr. the story, presentation, characters, atmosphere are all excellent but i'm surprised how tactical the gameplay is. I love that. Everything is perfect.
my perfect ending: they find a cure. shows joel singing and teaching ellie how to swim. also they are living in a nice home and the world is recovering from the infected
jcfrisco94 nah fam
Any news on a dlc? Beat the game twice and I wanna keep playing. Amazing game!
They have a digital copy in the playstation store to download
They already said that they dont really want a sequel. But they said even if they did it wouldnt be about Joel and Ellie.Thankfully though they are making single player DLC for The Last of Us so hopefully they can continue from the ending.
Best story I have ever played...The toughest thing about finishing is knowing that it will take years to know what happens next
It's gotta be played in full to be appreciated. Watching some gameplay only scratches the surface of what it really feels like to play.
will this game be available for ps4 ? or only a ps3 game ?
what ending did the developers originally envision? any word on this?
I read a spoiler a few months ago that said that in the end, Joel turns and Ellie has to kill him. I'm so glad it was a lie, i enjoyed the story much more not knowing what was happening.
I want your intro music as a ringtone!
The words "The last of us" and "sucked" shouldn't be in the same sentence
let's be realistic here, The last of us is a really down to earth game, ellie was never going to survive or be revived as the instant the surgery was complete, the cordyceps would have taken over her brain.
actually I red that Joel died before I played the game, and when he fell on that pipe, I was like omg this is it, and when it wasn't I had the best time of my gaming life, and start playing it again to enjoy every single moment of it
correct, I applaud own opinions without succumbing to peer pressure
Did they announce a sequel?
I meant surrogate daughter, and yeah I understood the ending. My gripe is that it destroyed the sense of hope.
It feels like everyone just gives up, and while that is indeed understandable and I have since come to terms with it, its still a bummer.
This was a great watch :) Lovin the hugs guys!
Greg can u ask the creator of last of us are they going to make another one
*SPOILER* Why do some people not like the ending of this game? The whole point of the game was keeping Ellie alive and Joel, being the badass he is, fucks everyone up at the end to make Ellie stay alive. He did what he had to do for someone that, even though he hasn't said it, loves Ellie by the end. The ending is beautiful and perfect and I would be glad to see a sequel. Naughty dog would be the ones to make a sequel as brilliant as the first. Nuff said.
5:59 "Can I hit 'A' or 'B'" on a PS3 controller?
[part 1] If you think of what the game really is all about you'll understand that it's about the relationship between Joel and Ellie in an ending world of violence and corruption, where survival is all that matters. You don't need "Zombies" in it to tell this story. What's precise is, this story didn't needed "Infected" in it, and it could have been better without it.
Does anyone think any of the posters on the walls in the last of us are hints to a new game?
The game plays far better than anythings the trailers can show. In Uncharted you get the two best weapons you can find and then you are fully ready to win the fire fight. In the Last of Us you get all your gear ready, make all you mods and consumables, and still get you ass handed to you. You NEVER feel like you dominated a fight. It is rough and dirty. And I love it^^
Yes; This is a game about 2 real people, trying to survive in a real world. Its so true to their characters.
Have u played it?
without spoiling, Joels decisions are not exactly heroic in many parts of the game but he does what most of us would do in those situations. He is not made out to be a Hero or even a nice guy hes human. I enjoyed the ending because Joel doesnt feel like a character anymore, hes as alive as you and I.
