US PEOPLE THAT LIVED THRU THAT AND SURVIVED, HAVE A VERY UNIQUE BOND!!! BECAUSE IF U TRY TO EXPLAIN THAT ERA OR TALK ABOUT IT TO OTHERS, THEY GONNA THINK U WELLIN!
Watching this as an older man, it brought tears to my eyes. I know of over 100 people that died, and all from the city. With 16 of them being close, or somewhat close to me. Now it's the kids of the people I grew up with kids, or the little brothers of the people I grew up with. Thanks for the vids.
Biggest blessing and lessons I learned growing up as a youth during this time was stay in your lane and stay out the way. Follow those principles at 50!! p from that good Southeast!!! Black youth take note of this message
My brother was murdered in Kingman Park (honestly, I've always considered it part of Rosedale) on his 19th birthday in November 1993. My mom's house was on the 500 Block of 25th PL. N.E. Whenever I visit that area, I would sit at a stop light and sit for 2 light cycles before finally driving off, shedding a quick tear while thinking of my brother. R.I.P. Danny.
I grew up with Danny we went to Blow. I remember the day it happened. If we are talking about the same person he was 21. I saw him 3 hours before it happened and after it happened. All hell broke loss Moe Joe, Brad, and the list continued. The best and the worst time of my life.
@wilheminadutchess2317 it's the same one. He lived at 549 25th Place. He was 19. His birthday is November 23, 1974. I'm Sean, his older brother. I remember getting the news from my grandfather when I got home from work. I went up to my room and lost it. My uncles, stepdad, and grandfather couldn't control me that night. My wife...fiancé back then, was the only one who could break through to me. But man, I still think of him daily.
I grew up on Oklahoma, 23rd St, and went to school with just about everyone in this piece. I remember all of this and its the reason why I left the city. We were so close that it was like losing family members.😢
My brother died around 21st and Vietnam in 1996, his name is scoop 5/20/1996 his funeral was on my birthday 5/31 .I'm from 3rd 🌎 43yrs. Did 14yrs Fed all over the B.O.P . DC is like the early '90s now. I'm in Houston tx, been here for 8yr since I been out. Really don't go back that often, because so many of these youngest is losing their life
1st off, welcome back & im glad you’re continuing to provide us with this good historical information. Your videos will live on & be used as reference points for years to come. Secondly, I just wanna say you do a masterful job with your research & presentation. Thirdly, glad to hear you’re FBA brother. That’s who really made DC & gave it its original flavor. No disrespect to black immigrants but FBA all day ✊🏿
What culture, killing? You refer to that a culture? No, I was born and raised in D.C. on 8th & E Street N.E.. That isn't and never have and never will be our culture.
Rest in peace to my life partner. I miss you very much Michael Lockard. I remember the night I got that call, police took over my house and street. My life had forever changed. You would be so proud of me today baby. Continue to watch over us from heaven. You maybe gone but never forgotten. The Love of your life❤❤❤
Love the Videos, keep dropping these. You definitely keeping the history of this beautiful city alive despite how much they’ve gentrified so much of it.
I remember Vietnam Steve was a real close friend in me he would always look out for me even though we was the same age he was a good dude rest easy easy my brother can't forget about Isaac and reds for showing me how to survive around 21 rest in peace to Ant my little homie
Amazing video, thank you… Love the Huck-a-bucks, sad they weren’t around very long. Felix Stevenson, the drummer has a TH-cam channel and is still active. He did an interview with one of the Northeast Groovers members recently that was very interesting
Man in real life I just got back from DC a few days ago and personally I loved it. No doubt there’s still some drama but it’s nothing like that anymore. It’s sad that so many people were lost and never got to see a more easy time in their home town.
The music taking me back, I was so young singing work the walls.😅 Im so thankful I didn't lose any family members during this era in dc. However, I did lose a lot of friends.
Yes I grow up in Langston Terrance that was my childhood neighborhood and I went to Browne and Eastern high school and now I live in 21st the Fairway park apartment across from Carver apartment they call Vietnam!!
💯👍🏽I lived in Ivy City on Centrel place as a 5 year old until I was 9 when I moved to Stanton Rd. Ambassador Square now Washington View. New name same old bs
I was living that way around that time, Darrell Green, Ricky Sanders, Art Monk, Timmy Smith, Charles Mann, Doug Williams was first black QB to win a Superbowl and even the Hogs Cheerleaders came to cheer at one of my little leagues football game. Awe man I miss this era back then makes me miss my Pa as if I already do.
Not glorifying or nothing but I watch videos like this from that era and hearing people talking about how "bad" it is now I just shake my head like Really🤔 Compared to THIS type madness🙄 Listen! And again not glorifying, but America from the late 70's up to the mid 90's was on an ENTIRELY different level of savagery in its urban areas! Not only in DC but EVERYWHERE! I'm not even from DC! But it was the same struggle up here in the NYC area! Boston! Philly! Newark! I mean it was even popping off in little areas like Long Island! Westchester County! Ct! And smaller cities like Patterson, Jersey City and Camden NJ! Mount Vernon, New Rochelle and Yonkers NY! and Bridgeport, New Haven, Waterbury and Hartford CT! And this is just in the area I came up in the Northeast! We not even including Chicago! Cleveland! Detroit! LA, Miami, St Louis, Memphis and Houston and Dallas areas! My point...yeah..its bad! And we need to do something! But feeling like there is no hope! Nah! Not even! Because if we can overcome what it was at these times nothing is impossible! And I am not just talking! I came up in the street during these times! I know what I am talking about! RIP to ALL those who fell during this area! It's almost incomprehensible when I look back at those times! We literally lost almost an entire 4 generations across the nation! That's crazy....😢
Crazy I use to live around the area and E St was probably one of or the dangers streets in the city back then in the early 90s. I use to lived in Azeeze-Bates Apartments
My family moved on Hst in 1937, I was born in 73. We have pics when Hechinger Mall was a grass hill plus other streets. Late 80's to late 90's shots were heard at any time of day any day from the 3 neighborhoods around Hechinger Mall. It could be where you were hanging at or around the corner or on the other sides but it was rare you went more than 2 days without hearing shots somewhere. It takes a lot of shootings to get to the point where ppl wait to hear an ambulance before they go see what happened.
Can you do a video on Fairmont and Valley Green? My folks tell me bout they old hoods and some wild things they saw as kids/teens but don’t go too in depth with it. I think they still traumatized from the stuff they seen.

Living in DC in the 90s was the equivalent of living in an active war zone. Your videos bear witness to those wars. I remember most of them vividly.
