"The drill here is to put this thing back together again..." I always love that part of a project. Very nice job on the video. I don't even own an Excal, but I watched the whole thing.
Great job Tony. Well laid out and easy to follow as long as one pays attention to exactly how you did it. Not easy for everyone, but all the tools are there. I liked it. Now to get the 1500 to buy one and learn how to properly use it!
Good stuff Tony,No doubt the best step by step Xcall PP mod on the web.I was goin to do the OBN version but you sold me.Ill be doing the Lord of the rings PP mod to my Xcall soon as the water turns solid.Thnx again for sharing Tony...HH GL!!!
Wow, high praise indeed. I use a lot of OBN's techniques. He's got a great handle on everything Excalibur:) When you decide to make the leap, feel free to email or pm me, I'll be glad to offer my help if ya want it.. "water turns solid" LOL!!
Wow Tony, what a cool mod. I only wish I had an Excalibur to do this to. I enjoyed watching all 3 parts nonetheless. Hope those Southern California beaches continue to treat you well! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing your mod with us, Tony. You have the talent, wisdom, skills & tools required to do this mod Right! You could probably (if you haven't already) make this a profitable side-job ;-) One suggestion that you may have considered already . . . It would be nice to have a Headphone jack (like used on the CTX3030. IE: waterproof) in place of the hard-wired phones that come stock. This would make upgrading of phones or replacement, if one set craps out on the beach, very easy. Just a thought. Keep 'em coming! ATB, Jerry
Good input Jer, thanks. IMHO the only downside to a headphone jack is it will not have a flexible cord grip at the pod. I wear my machine on my back and my scoop arm is constantly banging into the HP connection. I'm just afraid a rigid connector would fail pretty quickly for me. Yer right though, a hellova lot easier to put a connector on a cord than having to drill out an end cap.
Tony Eisenhower If the connector was mounted on the end cap, wouldn't the strain relief on the HP cable give it protection from accidental bumps. Just a thought😜
Any aftermarket handle will do (Anderson, Plugger, etc) The switch assembly is made from flashlight parts and components I make with 2 part polymer resin in custom silicone molds. I sell a kit. If yer interested, email me.
Tony nice vids takes me back to my electronics days in the military. Question? Do you have a patent on your upgrade? If not do the Mine Lab people know what your doing to there machines. Other than that great job, except with the blue wire you soldered to the pin pointer lead on the mother board then down to where you soldered that blue wire to a red wire. Sorry but, I need consistence. Later you soldered a red wire to a yellow wire. I know that red is usually positive but, could you have used a red wire down the mother board so as not to confuse the connections in the future? Sorry about the questions because you did a fantastic job!! Two thumbs up 👍 👍 ATB
No patent. My wife says I have all the money I'll ever need, LOL!! and I'm sure the Minelab folks could care less.. Yer right about consistency. I really should have used a chunk o red wire!! The red to yellow, is another issue however. That red wire is actually red varnish over the bare strands of the shield in the headphone cable. The yellow is an extension and was actually installed by Minelab so yer gonna have to take this up with them.. Thanks for yer input Ray, yer keeping me honest:)
Thanks Tony: ^) I kind of thought you (or Ross) might get little angry with me (drive to Phx and hunt me down) with all those questions. Great rewiring on the Excal. in any color. I had been wondering why you put the pin pointer on the hand grip. Because the pin pointer is on the Exal. itself. So when you got a signal you would have to turn to the Excal. and change it there? What you did was brilliant!! You get a cookie. HH&GL
Hi Joe. The coil cable stays the same 4 conductors as you describe from the coil to the handle. From the handle to the pod, more conductors are needed to carry the PP switch circuitry. I left the coil cable long in case I ever want to change everything back to a stock configuration. Thanks for watching bud.
Hey Tony, Ron Powers here. I have tried emailing you but haven't heard back. Get with me when you can. I would like some mods done on my machine. Thanks and great video series!!!!!!

LOL!!
I hope SHE DETECTOR is watching your video. She just bought her new Ex Cal and a new shaft from Anderson. I know she used to watch your stuff.
Yeah, I spoke to her a few weeks ago and recommended Anderson. She actually gave me a shout out on her last vid..
do you have a source of where you can obtain those pod end cap shrink tubings? they look like OEM.
It’s just 2” shrink tube which I pre form around a mandrel with a heat gun and trim with a knife.
Thanks Tony. Also do you have a source for that handle / switch combo ?

rxB..white
rxA..yellow
thanks Tony.
