Thank you for answering my question. I get it now... it's still annoying having to define each function twice (coming from C# and Java), but at least now I know what's going on behind the scenes and the reasons for doing it that way. Also the #pragma once is a handy tip, I was using the #ifndef ...#define...thing.
The #ifndef / #define / #endif if still useful when you use compilers that don't support the pragma once (ok, almost none nowadays). And you can find completely different views on the pragma once usage on the Internet.

Hi Saldina! I'm currently taking an Intro to Data Structures with C++ course and your videos have been so, so helpful. Thank you for making this channel! I am currently learning by watching videos such as yours and my professor's lectures. I either listen or code along with the video. I feel like I understand things very well during the videos but then when I think about the topics on my own later it seems that I have trouble retaining the information. Do you have any advice for this? I also feel like I would learn more if I started doing some projects. Are there any C++ beginner projects that you would recommend, or consider making videos on?
I just answered a similar question and I'll put the response here as well so that you don't have to scroll. I had a similar problem when I was at the university. I could understand the code during classes, when professors explain it, but I had problems to solve those tasks on my own. My problem then (and probably yours now) is lack of practice. You should spend more time practicing. The same is with people who start learning a foreign language. Very often they can understand and make out individual words before they are able to speak and use it in a day-to-day conversations. So my advice is to practice consistently, learn a little bit every day. Regarding projects, there is one interesting task to practice at the end of this video th-cam.com/video/9j5KkOC_goQ/w-d-xo.html I gave some tips and suggestions, and there is also a lot of room to add your own features and make improvements. 🤗🤗
I'm not a beginner but I personally have been watching Saldina's videos because I love her approach and I actually want to start making some tutorial videos myself. Anyways, I'm not trying to plug in myself and I don't have content even, but I say that because as someone who started off like you, I know how hard and frustrating it can be. I will say be patient with yourself and take time. You learn best from your mistakes and you learn best when you work with others. Look for opportunities to work with others and help or tutor someone. Maybe you don't feel you can now, but explaining to others and helping others is your best way of learning too. You can look for groups online, join open source groups, or at school hopefully with your peers. While I may not be beginner level, I am still learning and growing too. I make mistakes and learn from them. So just know it is an ever going process. You'll be paid in the end when you keep putting in the time so practice and keep practicing. Share your work and explain it to others like your peers. Discuss how you solved your problems and implemented your solutions and talk to others too. You'll see your knowledge grow and confidence when you masterfully explain concepts to your peers and I know you'll get there. It takes time so just be patient with yourself. :)
Subbed immediately, and video just started! You just cleared what's been unclear in my mind! I'm a 2nd year CS student learning C++ and I never understood why we needed to create .h file, and what are the #includes I need in .cpp file and main.cpp. You explained all of those clearly in baby steps! Excellent demonstration!
The "include" preprocessor directive essentially means "copy-paste here the content of the included file as is". To understand this better: 1. Create a "main.cpp" file even without any actual code - just with these 3 lines: Mister #include "name.txt" welcome back. We missed you. 2. Create a text file "name.txt" with arbitrary text in it; not C++ code, but just any english plain text. For example, your name. 3. Run gcc -E main.cpp -P . The "-E" key asks GCC to run only the preprocessor, and -P key omits line numbers. The output will be Mister Mill T welcome back. We missed you. As you can see, preprocessor simply substitutes the #include .... line with contents of the included file "as is". It doesn't know what the file is, it does no syntax checking - nothing. Just simple copy-paste as is.
Gwapa kaayo! I started programming in 1990 and my favorite were Turbo Pascal, then clipper, then vb6... but all are obsolete though my apps in vb6 are still in use. I never wanted to learn c++ nor dot.net but your videos make me realize that I should have to but it's quite too late.
you don't need 'else if', if you returned from the first 'if' (guard clause). just do 'if-return' pattern and end with a 'return', without using 'else'.

To understand this better:
1. Create a "main.cpp" file even without any actual code - just with these 3 lines:
Mister
#include "name.txt"
welcome back.
The output will be
Mister
Mill T
welcome back. We missed you.
As you can see, preprocessor simply substitutes the #include .... line with contents of the included file "as is". It doesn't know what the file is, it does no syntax checking - nothing. Just simple copy-paste as is.
Thank you so much for this, This is underated

I started with Fortran in 1970 so don't say it's too late!
