    This is lovely. Simovic's face finally lights up when he's asked to play and you can see that he's a phenomenal orchestral musician. Is he still leader of the LSO? I must check. I am sure Rattle will like him.

      In fact, the more I watch of this vid, the more I understand why the LSO appointed this intelligent, gifted, educated young man to be its leader.

    Interesting that he uses the Arpeggione sonata to demonstrate the sound on the G string of that amazing Strad. I felt he was a little bit dismissive of modern instruments. Gil Shaham played at the Proms this year on a modern violin which had a fabulous sound and an equally amazing range of colours.
