Scavenger Life I was kidding :) I've never been afraid to ship breakables but you have to agree it is nice to just grab an item and throw it in a padded envelope. I tried going to just selling mostly unbreakable stuff just to make life easier but then my sales went way down. People like their knick knacs :) I love my $1 auction boxes
I am Sooo Glad That I Landed On your Video! Your Floating Method Is going to be My New Lifesaver! I Wish That I started this Long Ago- It would Have Saved Me Alot Of $$ & Heartache. Thanks so Much!👍😉🇨🇦
I have this Very Large & Vintage Hanging Tiffany Lamp that I have been Sweating Over About The Shipping Process When It Does Sell, (and it should sell quick) But Now I'm Not Worried anymore thanks to you! And🤔why did I not see this 6 years ago Damnit! lol👍😉🇨🇦
As much as I like listening to you guys - the occasional video like this is really cool too! This is packing perfection! AND very useful knowledge for me too.
The lamp wiring is clearly vintage since it's cloth covered. Wiring from the last 50 or so years is almost always rubbery plastic covered. I think the "biodegradable" plastic (also used in plastic grocery bags) has corn starch mixed in. It takes something like 5 - 10 years to start to decompose, depending on how much high temp or sunlight gets to it. It's just not supposed to persist for decades in landfills. When I ship in multiple boxes, I mark boxes "box 1 of 2" etc. I also make sure to email the buyer to expect two shipments. I've also found the nylon reinforced tape adds a great deal of peace of mind if there's a chance the box could come apart. But I guess this item was light weight enough that it wasn't likely to come apart, especially with two layers of box. The multiple box concept is something I'll probably make more use of seeing it being employed. Very informative.
Great Demo video, I've started to double box items now also as had so much stuff break years ago,saw another lady who works for Ebay, does lectures- Dana Crawford and she double boxes too, Thanks.
Thanks for the video. I've run into a few items that, in hind sight, would have been much easier to ship in two parts. I never even considered it, but I will in the future. Also, I love the floating box method. I've had very good luck with this method and haven't had a breakage yet. Great job!
Nice work. Love to see how others are shipping their large items. I'm curious as to why the need for "this end up"? It's pack so well that to me it shouldn't matter what end is up. Just wondering.... Keep up the good work. Love your podcast & videos too.
Hi thank you for sharing this packing video. Actually we have many things cracked during shipping. I used to put many many layers of bubble wrap around the fragile item and tape the bubble wrap tightly then put it into a shipping box; or put the fragile item inside bubble wrap then into a poly wood case. The polywood case is so strong. However the items cracked anyway. I would love to try the "floating method" you have mentioned. So the shipping box should have enough padding and put winkle used paper around, that's it? Thank you!
You guys are machines! I would be terrified to sell and ship something that fragile - even after packing so well. You make it look so easy! I'm still a scaredy-cat.
I have a separate foll of packing tape, special tape, It is white and has FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE printed on it. I like using that on very fragile items instead of stickers.it is listed on amazon as... Premium Fragile Printed Tape 2.0 mil 330 Feet (110 yards) - White / Red - 1 Roll
love the floating box i only use that method every now and then. question do you double box every breakable or just the more delicate or more expensive things?
How do you print the shipping label for both the boxes? Is it just a duplicate of the label, or do you have to inform eBay that you will be shipping 2 boxes from a customer that purchased 1 item?
Elizabeth Santacruz you have to print 2 different labels, ebay will show both tracking numbers in their system. you just right click (or command click on mac) twice on the Print Shipping Label link. then you just generate two labels.
How would you package a Tiffany-style hanging overhead lamp? I currently have one listed on eBay up on local pickup, however I might have to just go ahead and make it a regular listing since it's not selling.
You'd pack it the way as this lamp. If you;re worried, just add a "handling fee" onto the sales price and then have it packed and insured by a professional (like the UPS store)
Thanks for your advice for shipping fragile items. I haven't started selling yet, but I'm taking notes before I start.
wow your a fast packer all that packing & explaining in 9 minutes lol great video
Poplar Picker this was edited down from 30 min. we estimate how long it took in the last clip.

Thanks for doing these videos! It has really helped me pack better. I liked and used your artwork one too.
Just bought 20 pieces of art pottery to resell. So goad I found this. Thank you!! 😉
Thanks so much for this video! Sometimes it's hard to figure out how to ship bigger items and this video really helps! :)

Great video we've learned a lot about shipping from you. Thanks

ThriftyTheresa We had to build up our experience to easily pack these kinds of items. Just takes time.

What service do you ship with? Boxes that large would cost a lot??
love the floating box i only use that method every now and then. question do you double box every breakable or just the more delicate or more expensive things?
We double box anything we think will break. Usually we dont list anything breakable at a low price since its so much work.
How do you print the shipping label for both the boxes? Is it just a duplicate of the label, or do you have to inform eBay that you will be shipping 2 boxes from a customer that purchased 1 item?

Would you still use this method nowadays with DIM weight? I imagine boxes like that would cost 40 each now

How much would they charge to pack something like that? It also has a long chain (like 10.5 feet long).
well, if I'd take it to the store and ask them directly. I'm just some dude on the internet.
Switching gears, what service did you use to ship this light (e.g. USPS, FedEx, UPS)?
We use the cheapest. Sometimes USPS Ground. Sometimes FedEx Home.
pardon my spelling... foll = roll
Thumbs up
