This year comes down to the finish, a year of injuries hold out and hold in player one is out for the season the other has about a year or two left before he retires...no playoffs? Yep. David, you are the best in the bay area but even your devotion to this club has failed to achieve the goal of winning a Super Bowl and next year will be another non-playoff team as Purdy gets overpaid.
Shanahan has always been more of an offensive coordinator than an authentic head coach, and that worked fine when he had Saleh or Ryans running the defense like the future head coaches they are. But now, with a rookie defensive coordinator and a special teams coach in shambles, the cracks are showing. The Niners have lost talent everywhere-players, coaches, even the front office-and the team looks exhausted after years of brutal, relentless football; since 2021, they've played the most football games second only to Kansas City, and the past two seasons they've had historically savage negative rest differentials. Injuries are piling up, gifted and diligent rookies are hitting the wall, and Shanahan’s high-difficulty play-calling is asking way too much of a team running on fumes and disorder. Brock Purdy is surpassing standards -throwing into tight windows, scrambling when plays break down [for more, see JT O'Sullivan's QB School, a weekly, play-by-play analysis of Purdy’s performance]-but Shanahan’s overcomplicated schemes demand perfection every play. (It’s like asking a Tool cover band to crush a 12-song set with zero slip-ups. It’s just not realistic.) This team needs simpler, rhythm-building play calls that let the talent shine without constantly forcing everyone to be flawless. Give the players a chance to settle in, sustain drives, and make dynamic and impactful plays stemming from their overflowing skills, talent, and experience without constantly fighting fatigue and chaos. If Shanahan wants to salvage this season, he’s got to simplify the game plan and fully embrace his role as a holistic head coach. That means focusing on the fundamentals: discipline, execution, toughness, situational smarts, and teamwork. He’s got to rally the whole squad-coaches and players alike-to believe and breathe those core principles. If he can’t, the Niners might not make a deep playoff run or even make it at all. Long-term, Shanahan needs to bring in a killer defensive coordinator who can again free him up to focus on offense without the rest of the team falling apart. Let’s hope he figures it out for the Faithful's sake-because this team has too much talent to waste.
Lombardi, I have been saying this about the offense since week 3. CMC unexpectedly not playing killed months of planning from Kyle. Add the injuries that came every week in the beginning, he hasn’t been able to keep the same approach he has had planned out. This is the time when Kyle needs to get back to the run heavy offensive approach. I love the passing attack, they will be amazing down the road, but right now, they need to run the hell out of the ball. They have three great backs that they can utilize.
I ain't no expert, but it really seems to me it's adjustments both offensively and defensively. Seems the opponent adjusts and we fail to do so. We aren't a heavily penalized team overall, we just have had horrible timing with them this year, like the holding call on a 3rd and 1 conversion late in the game. Shan is stubborn as well...
Well it falls on the defense if the offense is not putting any more points on the borde. The 49ers could of put 21 points but the first half only and no points during the 2nd half that means the defense needs to hold. But if the offense knows the defense is not holding like the 49ers it falls on the offense to control the clock and time on the field. The 49ers did that last year and this year the offense is not playing up to pare. They got a good right tackle puni right and didn't improve at all . This falls on Kyle shanahan. The team is not playing complimentary football like last year
They could have attempted a 60 yard field goal, instead of punting it into the end zone. I absolutely did not agree with that call from Kyle. Moody had a bad game the previous week at same time as making the winning field goal. Every 55 plus yard kick he makes or misses…. Has enough yards on it to make a 60-62 yard kick. That three points puts the game in overtime.
Fitness and conditioning that’s what it comes down to. Now that everyone has been paid they don’t put in the effort. At least that is what I am seeing. It is also coaching and too many penalties.
But nobody is talking about how the 49ers have played over 70+ games in 3 years. But your right. I believe they're tired. Not taking care of their bodies.
It sure feels like our Offense is letting us down more than our defense (we'll keep our horrible special teams out of this) - play calling just too conservative/ ineffective later in the game: unable to put up points, horrible job in red zone, etc. With that said, I agree, our Defense is letting us down quite a bit as well.
I know we should have depth, however if you look at who has been or still injured this year, they are some of our best Chess pieces. Can't win a game with mostly Pawns!
Let’s say the Niners do make the playoffs… a poor run defense, especially in the 4th quarter is going to be a real Achilles Heel. The teams that win the Super Bowl can run the bowl and play smash mouth offense and defense in the 4th quarter.
The run D erodes because the offense fizzles out in the second half, you can’t rest with all the 3n outs these guys are having. Last year Wilkes benefited from complimentary football which is why it’s hard to compare him and Sorensen
Kind of makes you think that Steve Wilks decision was a little emotional if we would’ve worked with him for a second year who knows how good the defense would be
The simplest way for me to assign blame if I had to is this. We lost the games in the 4th quarter while leading. So the defense let us down. It doesn't matter if we only scored 17 in the Seattle game, point is we were ahead. Had we been behind in these games we lost then the blame for me is assigned to the offense.
Nope it's the offense. They stopped them on 4th and inches to get the ball back. The offense needs to be able to run a successful 4 min offense to close the game
If Kyle could have just run the ball on that last possession he could have ran the clock and or wasted the hawks timeouts. Instead he opted for passes when only Juan (only WR all game to get any sort of separation) was able to beat man coverage. Persall is still recovering and getting reps in from his GSW that took practice away from him. At this point it needs to be obvious that Deebo needs to go. He’s only a threat when it’s the perfect play call for him.
At fault: let’s look back at predictions. Defensively, we seem to average 1-2 take aways and we are losing points to other teams within 4 points of most predictions. Offense: we are given the ball 1-2x with approximately 0-3 points per gift from defense. Seemingly 10 points below average predictions, excluding gifts. Special teams: painfully different. 4-6 pts per game with no turnovers The fanbase is getting ugly with this season. Granted, we have players waiving money around in their cars (DMO) and fans are frustrated. Winning is tied to performance and that money. We knew the algorithm screwed us yet money makers are the first to get scrutinized. Still Faithful. Still painful
The 49ers haven't looked right all season - really, since last christmas. Its not just one thing. Fixing that means getting healthy, and getting better, and stacking improvements on that. CMC is a piece, but when you take out kittle its a wash. Greenlaw and Huf and Ward are missed, and Bosa irreplaceable, and rookies are still learning. Special teams has been the dagger thats killed them, but it wouldnt if they were otherwise right. It's still fixable but running out of time.
Just keep ignoring the problem. Brock Purdy can't score points in the first half. The offense will struggle until you fire Brian Grease. I keep point out that the offense only average 13.5 points in every game dated back to Jimmy garoppolo. The first game Brock played in was Miami Dolphins. The team only had 13.5 points in the first half. S
If tb’s epa on def is 28th how come we could only score 20 points on them. I know moody missed a lot but that’s special teams, we didn’t score tds and ranked 6th 🤷♂️
@davidlombardi the offense doesnt score, sure they move the ball well, but only into fg position then they end up kicking one. The D did plenty enough to win last week.
Sorensen calls man coverage on 3rd down passing situations and that’s where the offenses cash in. They know it and wait for it, Sorensen is that predictable. Go back and watch the film again, David.
Just excuses! These guys are supposed to be professionals and at their best on their professions. All blames goes to Shanny. He can’t coach this team and can’t get them over the obstacles.
I agree with @scotttild however some say the special teams coach did things slightly different in seattle which for some reason he is not doing here david could you explain what he did in seattle that is not being done here . Thanks and the stats are interesting good flying safe to greenbay I like united but will NEVER FLY eagle airlines lol
He almost lost his job in Seattle too, the difference is he turned it around by using starters on special teams. We don't have the health to be able to do that
Bro everyone wants to do that but that requires a good O-line to give you time to throw and a receiver(s) that are fast and can make a play. We have Juan and that’s it right now, persall is still learning and recovering from his GSW that took practice time away from him
Maybe you don’t watch football or know stats but purdy is pretty dang good. Saying he is not worth more than Daniel jones, hurts, Lawrence, Murray, Geno, Derek Carr, mayfield, stroud, love, is actually crazy.
Slow your role while talking about a game, let alone Super Bowl, against the hottest team in football, the most favored team by refs, and led by Mahomes. Both superbowls. With a much better, competitive for 5 quarters, than the one with Jimmy G.
You can say all u want about efficientcy, but if you aren't scoring in the 4th and putting games away it doesn't matter. Wins are what counts, not efficientcy.

The problem lays with an anemic offense that cannot scor any points. Shanahan has lost his mojo.
I feel like he’s lost his players too
Shanahan has always been more of an offensive coordinator than an authentic head coach, and that worked fine when he had Saleh or Ryans running the defense like the future head coaches they are. @@josephrapelje4670 As soon as he tried holding out while hurt we should have traded him. What a let down this year

The problem is their losing to inferior teams that's really not that good
Fitness and conditioning that’s what it comes down to. Now that everyone has been paid they don’t put in the effort. At least that is what I am seeing. It is also coaching and too many penalties.

YES is my only response to your question. It is a team sport, it is not a one way affair. Every aspect of the 49ers needs to step up, end of story.
Also Mooney ward was out too. That does hurt. I do understand of course why. Wish him all the best.
I believe Kyle's play calling has changed as Purdy's improved and become more traditional sit in the pocket plays :(
Its the defensive schemes that has plagued us finishing games
It sure feels like our Offense is letting us down more than our defense (we'll keep our horrible special teams out of this) - play calling just too conservative/ ineffective later in the game: unable to put up points, horrible job in red zone, etc. With that said, I agree, our Defense is letting us down quite a bit as well.
The offense can’t the top off a defense and they struggle in the red zone. Going back to 2019 the Oline has been an issue and still is. Simple stuff.
I know we should have depth, however if you look at who has been or still injured this year, they are some of our best Chess pieces. Can't win a game with mostly Pawns!

The Defense has been getting burned on long passes since day 1 especially on 3rd and 4th downs...
Both……offense cannot score enough points to win games and defense cannot stop their opponents from scoring in the last minute.
At fault: let’s look back at predictions.

Problem finishing drives.
7 instead of 3
on just 1 possession per loss=8-2
7 instead of 3=W’s
Obviously both…Not saying the special team…Just painful to watch
TOKOS🇹🇴💯 KYLE HAS TO BE
AGGRESSIVE BE BE AGGRESSIVE
Niners O line, Special teams and run defense are all bottom 3rd in NFL.
That's not on Sorenson, it's on John Lynch

No protection on from Officent To throw at all.

Nothing new here. Shanahan's teams have been blowing leads for a long time.

This chart shows that the chart doesnt matter
need to throw ball more deep, n, add Russel gage todo that
Bro everyone wants to do that but that requires a good O-line to give you time to throw and a receiver(s) that are fast and can make a play. We have Juan and that’s it right now, persall is still learning and recovering from his GSW that took practice time away from him
Both
Are you serious asking that question in all the games we lost by less then 10 points so yes it's the offenses that's a silly question
Purdy is not worth selling out our team. He's not a 60 million dollar qb. Let him on the market. He's not worth 25 million.
Lol he's worth more than 25 million. He's in the 45 range for sure. We need a better line on both sides of the ball.
Maybe you don’t watch football or know stats but purdy is pretty dang good. Saying he is not worth more than Daniel jones, hurts, Lawrence, Murray, Geno, Derek Carr, mayfield, stroud, love, is actually crazy.
@ericsaldate778 Put him on the Patriots, then talk about stats.
The niners are just undisciplined, out of shape, injured, and badly coached. See y’all next year.
Clearly Niners D can't hang 4 qtrs. Maybe they should spend less time watching film and more time with the conditioning coach.
do you do airbnb? or whatever it's called lol i have never used them
Shanahan couldn't close the Superbowl after having a 10 point lead.. He can't seal the deal..
Slow your role while talking about a game, let alone Super Bowl, against the hottest team in football, the most favored team by refs, and led by Mahomes. Both superbowls. With a much better, competitive for 5 quarters, than the one with Jimmy G.
