You've done a lovely job with this kit despite its lack of detail and those incredibly THICK sails. I never thought I'd say this, but I have an old Lindbergh Line Chinese War Junk model and IT has better detail than the Revell kit shown here. My congratulations on making an A+ model out of a C- kit.
Thank you very much Joseph !! I tried as hard as I could to make it interesting. It was really a challenge for me to perform these thick sails, that I think on the real boat were made of bamboo ...
@@sallas4u You're welcome. On a real junk, the battens would be made of bamboo, but the sails themselves were cloth. Those sails look like they're made out of 2x4s! I love junks and junk rig. They're very seaworthy vessels and the rig makes it very easy to shorten sail-just lower the sail, lash the upper and lower batten together and re-hoist, repeat as necessary. Zheng He the eunuch admiral got as far as Madagascar in the 1400s and could easily have made it to Europe if the Emperor hadn't decided that overseas exploration was a waste of time. I call shenanigans on the Chinese claim that the largest ship in his fleet was 450 feet long tho'. Wood just doesn't have the structural integrity to build a wooden ship that big and have it hold together at sea. The largest wooden vessel on record was the 6 masted schooner 'Wyoming' built in Bath Maine in 1909. She was 395 feet on deck and only held together because of a steel lattice work that reinforced the inside of the hull. And she still leaked like crazy.
Да, детализация не очень хороша по сегодняшним меркам, но это определенно был интересный набор. Было бы хорошо, если бы вы обратили внимание на свои выражения и были бы добры.... Спасибо за комментарий и счастливой Пасхи.
Excellent job, I had this kit when i was a kid, great fun.
Thank you Jeff!
I always wanted to view a Chinese junk boat from very close.
Now my dream has come true.
Very nice
