Beautiful! You are so fortunate to have all of those old photos and memorabilia. My dad's sister was the keeper of all of their old family photos and thinking she was going into an adult living facility, she threw them all out :-(. Tons of old photos lost forever.....Your books will be cherished for generations to come.
This is awesome! I am 26 and have been researching the family history for sometime. My uncle researched years before I did and has given me 4 large boxes of papers and folders to go through. Still trying to organize all of that. In the meantime we haven't went through my grandparents things. They saved everything (since they grew up during the great depression) so there are over 60 photo albums in their closets, not mentioning old scrapbooks and photos in my grandmother's cedar chest that we have never looked through. We did clean out their storage building this summer and found my great grandmother's trunk that is packed full that no one really knew about. This gave me so many ideas. Thank you so much!
I been doing my family history for over 10years since I was in high school, I'm in my 20's I been thinking about doing some scrap booking ages for my ancestors as a way to share with family and share their story and bring their story to life pre much I love the ideas you had I need more scrap booking pages and embellishments so I can really get started :)
I’ve just come across this and it’s given me some fabulous ideas. Such a shame that none of the many questions were answered as I would also like to know how those fold out trees were done.
This is got to be one of the best Family Albums I have ever seen. Truly amazing! You are extremely talented and have inspired us all. Thankyou so much for sharing. Your family are very very lucky to have someone like you who has put everything into order and this will be a very prized piece of family history one day.
I love how you decorated your family ablum. I been working on my family tree for a while now and been wanting to scrapbook them somehow. You just gave me some really great idea's. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful family ablum.
You've put into paper exactly what I've had in mind for many years. I've finally bit the bullet and I'm putting my family history down into a scrapbook. I'm doing similar to you, but instead of the branches of the tree I'm doing a 12x12 page for each direct ancestor. My 7th great grandparents have a page with info about where they first lived, & how, their children, and things happening at the time, such as the Louisiana Purchase. I'm leaving some room to add things later as I find them, such as any images of deeds. I've backed up everything digitally so if I ever want to redo a page I have the digital images to start over.
Wow Christy thank you so much for sharing your family tree album. They are so informative and inspiring. You have given me some very helpful ideas. I have been struggling on how to put ideas and the information l have together. I have a son and niece that l would like to do an album for each of them. I have done pages of different family relations now l need to pull them altogether and get started. Once again thank you for sharing your beautiful albums.
I am super amazed that you have 2 huge books. My mom has traced her family history back to 1000's (Royalty). However, I definitely will not be able to find that much stuff on my father's side of the family and that's devastating. I absolutely love the way you put this book together. So creative and truly amazing!
Oh My God Christie you have outdone yourself again, the Family Tree you did was just amazing I wish I had half your talent .Keep informing us of your many projects they are fantastic.
Well done! I'm doing a illustrated book of my family history here in Brazil. It's nice to see how this subject is popular in US. In Brazil people enjoy but It's rare to see this kind of work. I know some because I'm interested into it. I know now how much trouble and hard work in research you have to do, but in the end it pays off. I comprehend now exactly, as you said in this video, how we have a better knowledge about the people we simple love because of a picture from 1885, for exemple. Now I know facts and stories that made me travel throught each time life. It is a work without paralel. You did a wonderful job! Congratulations! Marco, from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Hi, I love your albums. I have been doing genealogy for over 30 years and as I also scrapbook, I have combined my love of the two into "Heritage Albums" with documentations such as marriage licenses, births, etc. But while I have printouts of all the census, never thought to include them in my albums, so now I'm going back and add them. I'm finishing up a christmas Mini Album and you've inspired me to get back on my family albums. About 6 years ago I started a weekly genealogy group at my local library and one of our members (also a scrapbooker) has done her albums similar to yours. I plan to share this video with the group at our next meeting, if that's ok. By the way, my parents best friends when they were young were a couple named Waltz . I ran into them in later years when their sons' were grown, but never stayed in touch.
I started researching my family history two years ago ...and I've spent so much time trying to figure out exactly how I want to make my book. I wanted to make the family tree with the fold out pages the way you did but, I haven't figured it out yet. Could you show us a little on how you did your book and how you did these fold outs? -also, what program did you use to make the tree fold out. the only pedigree pages i've found are the ones that are blocks or weird "fan" shapes.
This is brilliant, been wanting to start this for my family, don’t know where to start, could you start a Facebook page so we could follow steps and ideas and where to buy folders, pages ect. Would love that
How incredible! How did you get the silouettes on the family tree, where did the tree come from and how do you get the photos on there as well? How did you make the pull out tree pages? Oh so many questions........how long did this take you???
Thank you for sharing your family tree scrapbooks. They have given me inspiration to create a scrapbook of our family tree. I am curious how you created the pull out descendant line pages? Is it all one piece of laminated paper or is it several pieces of paper laminated together?
Awesome job on your family tree.Thank you for sharing your family tree scrapbooks. I wrote down the poem it will go beautifully with my family tree scrapbook.
I'm trying to find out about my family history like if I had a very old ancestor who was born 200 something years ago and if they were notorious killers or something
Thank you so much for showing this. Where did you find all of that?! I'm not finding that much information and I'm curious about your sources. I love the old photos. (I'm assuming those were passed down in your family. lucky.) very nicely done.
I'm not Christie, but have been doing family research for 30+ years. Start at your public library. Most have Ancestry free for patrons to use. There should be someone who can get you started. Or subscribe to Ancestry (I pay $20 a month for the US...worldwide costs more) and search in your PJs. Or Familysearch.org which is the free LDS (Mormon) site where you can start your own tree (Ancestry has a free guest site too, but it's limited. You can build a tree, but not view others.). All census are online except for 1890 which was destroyed when a Federal Repository burned. Names of everyone in the family aren't documented until the 1850 census. You can also go to courthouses and search and there is a site called "Findagrave" that has millions of names and cemeteries posted by volunteers al over the country. And, really, really important, please talk to older family members. They can be a wealth of information, facts and family stories. And take advantage of some of the sales on DNA...I did mine through Ancestry...great fun and a great way to meet new relatives and share info. OK, I've taken enough of Christie's space. Christie...hope you aren't offended that I answered a question meant for you, but I love when someone takes an interest in their family history.
Hello, I searched an idea, how I can realize my genealogy project in a scrapbook and you tell me the answer, Thank you so much. I want to make it a little bit other, but its almost the same way. A lot of fun with your family book. Greetz from Germany
Are you entitle to the family arms you showed most heraldic arms associated with a specific person and grant to continue down to the next generation if given. Therefore, most arms associated with an sp[ecific family name are just that and that does not entitle you to use those arms. See the following websitewww.theheraldrysociety.com/further details and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_heraldic_arms on this issue or consult a good book on the subject of heraldry as there are a lot of misconceptions on whom and who is not entitled to bear arms. I have been a genealogist for about 30 years and have a specific interest in family names and heraldry and consider have an insight into the subject.
