I remember taking the bus from San Clemente to HB to skate the high school in like 94/95? Sure as shit Ed was there skating the small kink rail by himself and I was awestruck. Now just the other day I had to pick up my daughter from that very school for an appointment and I sat there waiting for her right at the very spot that rail used to be. Life is funny. And Ed Templeton will always be one of my favorite skateboarders
I remembered meeting Ed back in 1990 at Hot Skates shop demo in Orange, Ca. Funny thing was that I was riding his 1st pro board from New Deal. He saw what I was riding and he said..Nice board but with a slight wink! I like him because he put Impossible on the map plain and simple!!
For me this is the golden era of skateboarding. Companies like Blind and New Deal emerge, massive innovations in street, but before everything became freestyle. Such good vibes.
I got to see a demo at Rotation Station with Mike V, Dune, Felix Arguelles, and Ed Templeton back in the day. I lucked out sitting right in front of the fun box rail that Ed ended up doing an (perfectly wrapped) impossible lipslide down -totally blew my mind.
And a tree huggin vegan to boot. Straight ripper and innovator. Late 80's-early 90's was pure evolution. Boards changed, wheels got tiny and tech got huge. Appreciate I experienced and skated through and beyond. Dope, dumb and whack simultaneously. Love, from a 53 old skate nerd, dork out. Nollie backside 1 foot disaster revert. Fakie 360 shuv-it noseblunt. Just a couple lame tricks I spent hours to learn by myself on mini. Just out of high-school and rippin everyday.
@@RealSurfStories thanks for replying 👍 Not sure if it was 92 or 93 when I've been there 🤔 Nevertheless, it was a great time. We slept on the floor in a warehouse close by provided by the staff of the event. We were young and careless. Skateboarding was everything.
He was one of the GOATs in the early 90s so when i got to the US in the 90s, two decks i wanted to buy were Ed's and Jason's. I can't remember why I chose Jason Lee's deck (the one with bible, gun and american flag).
I had the one! (actually mine was the "stained glass" background) there were 2 of that our little skateshop and one had more steeper kicks.... so it was an allowance/lunch money race between me and my friend's brother to get it. I GOT IT he did not BIG SUCCESS! 😁
My favorite place to skate back in early mid 90's Huntington High school. ED was always around and in my opinion had the best blunt variations hands down! Was there at opening day of lil sk8 park right next to the school Total mad house so my wife n i went back to the school sk8 the famous red halls stoked cause i ollied a standing metal folding chair next thing i know turned around to a cop and was fined trespassing with a$ 280.oo fine ...WTF and over in the grass people were playing Frisbee 😂....good times!!!❤️🔥👊
In Good and Evil "favorite skate vid since I bought it at a local shop in Eagle Pass Texas. He made dockers look so cool ! like he invented dad style but cool dad style with that slicked back hair and big ass in them dockers lol love you ed
Early 90s was skating at its purest, there were absolutely no external rewards so the only people doing it really REALLY loved it
There's still no reward (for 99,9% of skaters) but joy, inner peace and being free.
Still need a skateboard to balance my life.
What a great time to be alive and a skater.
well said!
Ed was the first person I saw do a handrail at HB High School. His skating was inspiring.

@Golfingflaco Awesome! HB high-school, Surf City! Good times 🛹
His 3 stripe socks gave him super skate powers. This era of skateboarding was fun to grow up in.

Don't sleep on blockhead.
Natas Dogtown pre Powell era for me, only skateboarders skated - no kooks!
Ed HB footage is so Awesome.
Damn what a list! Ed taking number 1 is crazy.
I was at the Münster competition that starts at 06:29. Ed was one of the few consistent pros. He dominated the course.
