Great video, well laid out and thoughtful. Also, I'm glad to see both individuals and companies with a platform taking the time to encourage boundary pushing, rather than simply chasing the status quo in synthesis. Nothing at all wrong with tonal elements, but the atonal can present beauty as well. Thanks for this.

Walker, you just opened a door to a whole new room full of sounds for me. Way to go!

Amazing, I have just got a Strega (to complete the trio) and new to exploring the witch and this is gold! Thanks Walker.

Great demo and explanation of the effect of just intonation. But the moment you used the touchplates to transform the sound, I went "ohhhh!"

  • @electricdawn2258

THIS is exactly hitting on what many people seemingly don't understand about the Moog Subharmonicon and its Just Intonation quantizer. They are used to the Equal Temperament and use that and then wonder why it sounds out of tune when used with the sub oscillators and their mathematical division tuning in relation to the main oscillator. You definitely should use the Subharmonicon quantised to Just Intonation when using it with the sub oscillators, otherwise it will sound massively out of tune.
Your video just drove home why! Very good as usual. Love your stuff!
PS: Sorry, if I don't make any sense. I sometimes do. :P

Just Intonation FTW! This is why I love my Lyra 8. This makes me want the 0-Coast. My Moskwa II does Just Intonation (as does the Subharmonicon) and it makes a huge difference, IMO. Lovely!

Oh, this is so beautiful. It inspired me to draft up a way to do the same sort of control using a Keystep and an Urzwerg.

When you see it happen, you say 'oh yeah'. But I never even considered trying it beyond agitating the filter. So this would also open up complex oscillations :).

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I had held off on doing it in a video because Hainbach used the Agitation Function as an oscillator quite a bit in his Strega video (and did it really well, of course!). It's easy for me to forget to do particular things for a long time with all the possibilities!

One thing i love about this style of synthesizer is it really sounds like a machine. But without the clean computerization.

Walker, thank you, again. I am thinking that the Rene2 should be able to accomplish the same thing with the added benefit changing the relationship between the x and y maps by simply clocking the two snake patterns with different tempos or making the two access pages different sizes. woh!

really love that you can do complex things but also that if you need a great sounding synth in a pinch for a track you just power it on; tweak it in five second, hit record and bam, great synth line.

no 0-ctrl but I use the agitator as a bass drone used as a fundamental and play notes with the strega oscillator. sounds great

Oh man, I have 2 stregas in my set up, along with the other semi modular offerings.
I have not even considered this patch before, and I'm very excited to implement this into my workflow.

What if I figure out the patch before the video even airs. It looks like that LFO type thing that normally patches to the filter is being used in audio rates and then patched back in

Oo I had never thought to use the agitation function with the main oscillator with 0ctrl . This really got my wheels turning and I was able to use the strength cv to control my erica synths vco 1v/oct as the third interval to create individual “triads” on each touch plate and used all that as a carrier for a vocoder 😄

I really need to stop watching your 0-CTRL/Coast and Strega videos. I already have more or less a Shared System! As you say, Walker, I don’t “need” a Strega or a 0-CTRL. And yet. And yet. As you also say, there is a “personality” you bring out of these devices that I find simply bewitching. Anyway, thanks for another headful of ideas I can bring back to Pressure Points, Rene, and the DPO …for now…
