    Dan, I do love your reviews. You seem to go into much greater depth than most reviewers. I've long ago decided that there are 2 things I don't want in my rifles and scopes. The first is batteries, the second, PLASTIC! Keep up the great reviews!

    Hi Dan.
    I bought the 55 (.22) version of this gun in 2019. Worst gun I've ever owned.
    I bought it in the belief that it was made by the famous Winchester Company....its not!!!
    It is made by Gamo!
    The investment company that owns Gamo etc also own a company called Winchester Ammunition which allows them to use the Winchester name but it has no relation to the real gun company.
    My gun was less than 10 ft/lbs, even after I'd taken it to the Welsh Willy guy for tuning (no fault of his).
    The accuracy was always poor.
    After a few months I sold it.
    I paid almost £250 for it and to be honest I've had better guns for under £100.
    Good review though. 👍👍

      Hi Jeremy!
      Yep it's even advertised on Gamo's own catalogue. To be fair this one shoots well and has plenty of power as you can see. Yours may have been a Friday night job possibly or I've just got really lucky with a good one.
      To be fair... I agree that something like an XS19 would put up a helluva fight against the model 45.
      Thanks Jeremy!

    I like the way it looks, hate the plastic breach. I didn’t have any thoughts about the welded breach on my BSA Meteor Super until you said something about welded breaches. I was already in love with it and now see no issues with it. The safety’s are basically the same which I like . Another great review. Thanks

    Thank you for this review, you answered the most important question I had. I was interested in the 55rs version of this rifle, it seemed great value and the reviews were good, but I couldn’t quite see what the breech was made from. It looked like plastic, of all things…and now you’ve confirmed it. Looks like I may be coughing up for a HW 95 after all.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yep sadly for whatever reason it's plastic, to be fair you don't need to spend Weihrauch money to get a great springer. Take a look at the Cometa range, every bit as accurate if not moreso than a HW and usually a fair chunk cheaper. Take a look at my 100 yard challenge video and see what a standard Fusion can do. 😉

    First thing I did was look for the safety placement on the gun. Not in the trigger guard, not in the rear, of the receiver or behind it. I knew it had to be on the side like a BSA. Very interesting until the plastic breech. Gamo just had to throw their bit in there. Winchester is owned by Daisy and Daisy by Gamo who also owns BSA. So now we see a cross between BSA, Gamo and Winchester. To bad they didn't use a steel breech and safety. Now that Daisy owns Crosman I be interesting to see which way Crosman, Benjamin and Remington spring guns and pumpers go.

    @davidoldboy5425 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Talking about plastic any progress on the Cometa Fusion triggers? this looks a nice gun actually but as you say let down by plastics. I love the long barrel, especially with open sights, glad to see this as some rifles should be labelled pistols, what a shame about the plastic breech, if not for this I'd buy one.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi David!
      Early next month you'll see some exciting things regarding Cometa.. keep an eye on our website at bigdansairguns.co.uk
      😉
      As for the Winchester it's a somewhat spoiled opportunity, a sweet little action as you've mentioned somewhat ruined by the breech.. and the odd dimensions depending on how you're built.

    One of these sold at a Norfolk auction for £75 plus commission last week. I dropped out at sixty quid it was the stock that interested me. Sights are very sixties BSA updated with fiber optics, so is the trigger guard and safety. So Glad my bid did not win now that plastic breech would have upset me to. A couple of packers and a thicker butt pad might help the pull length.but apart from the stock the gun close up looks cheap and nasty, so I was really surprised it shot so well with the JSB's with it's rather obvious BSA Gamo heritage you have to wonder who is producing this rifle maybe Gamo or Magtec in Brasil, there again it could be almost any company jobbing out to Winchester.

    Quite a nice looking and performing gun, but there's no way I would ever buy a gun with a plastic breech. I wonder if the designers would be happy with plastic wheels on their cars, because that's about the same level of confidence it inspires. Surely they must have known we'd hate it? I think this model may be a 'tester', to see how far they can go with the plastic parts in the manufacture and have us accept it. It's the only way I can see this making sense!

  • @Biffo1262
    @Biffo1262 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The cheek piece is ambi as.....it doesn't have one. 😀. I'm not as subtle as you Dan and yes we're rather subtle about the recoil pad being too big. What you meant to say is some Chinese factory worker messed up the stock specs and cut it too short which would explain the recoil pad being too big. Like I said I'm not as subtle as you. Still it looks rather nice but rather small for the average adult male. It wouldn't suit me at all and looks miniscule with you holding it. A stock extender, not pretty but functional, could make all the difference. I had and still have on old SMK AR2079A Target .177 which too had a really silly short pull. I made a 25mm extender out of a block of aluminium and it made a world of difference. So much so I still do the odd HFT comp with doing pretty well much to the chagrin of the 'Ferrari' gun owners. I have never really understood why that upsets so many HFT comp shooters. I was once told it was embarrassing to sponsors. My gun my choice so in that regard .....tough.
    The 1/2" unfortunately barrel thread isn't always best employed fitting a silencer. I've had a number of rifle that benefitted the fine tuning to accuracy by fitting a muzzle brake. I found them almost obligatory on CO2 rifles as the weather cooled down.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Biffo!
      I smiled reading about your experience with the SMK and the gun snobs keep it up, if they don't like it maybe they could buy one .. it's about time they had a good gun (oof could you imagine their faces if you said that).
      It'd be a Spaniard not a Chinese factory worker but it does look odd doesn't it? It's one of those things that are only fractionally out but once you see it you can't un-see it.
      I've always been a bit 50:50 on muzzle brakes but I will admit some of the rifles I've shot with them have been very accurate, mainly the Cometa Fusion and the Norica Storm.
      Keep fighting the good fight with that AR2079A Biffo. Excellent shooting!

    I know you’re a big guy Dan, but that rifle is definitely not full size. I would say it was for juniors. The fact it has a long barrel, just aids leverage for cocking. Something very necessary if a youngster wishes to use it.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Steve.
      It's a full size rifle despite the short length of pull. Gamo also advertise it as such. The length depending on the model is 44" to 46". In comparison an SMK XS38 underlever is 45".
      In regards to cocking it's smooth but not as light as many junior rifles, the longer forestock is also not designed for junior shooters as can be seen by the checkering being quite far forward. To be fair it'd make a lot more sense if it were advertised as a teenagers rifle etc.
