You can still rent. I'm skydiving and I don't own my gear. I'd even say that nobody owns his gear before a good amount of jumps. It's a bit different for base jump and you often have to own your chute but I wouldn't recommand trying base jump before skydive. Judging by this guy's flying technique, he probably has a decent skydiving experience.

Yes with BASE jumping there is no backup chute it’s far more dangerous then skydiving 🪂 and other extreme sports
