I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (December 9, Advent 2), this was our Gospel of the Day. Jesus is coming. And this time, it WILL NOT be as a helpless little baby in a smelly, dirty stable in Bethlehem.
What I'm saying is when Jesus came into the world as a baby, no one knew it, except the shepherds. But the rest of the world didn't know about it. As for my reference on the stable, it represented the state of the world at the time. It stank. And sadly, nothing much has changed 2,000 years later. John was speaking on the corruption in the world. Being a descendant of Abraham was not going to save anyone.

Not exactly sure of your point, but thanks for watching.
Peace.
