Delays at Dover at certain times of the year (half-term in this case) have been the norm for many decades, before the UK joined the EU, after it joined and after it left.
@@archiebald4717 I don't remember 25-30 mile long queues with the gentle waft of stale lorry driver piss upon the breeze though Archie. This is a disaster, a self inflicted disaster sold to us by charlatans & thieves.
@@Robert_DeVille Dover Port authorities said that a spike in freight was the cause of the temporary queues, not brexit. It was temporary, so it seems that they were correct. Some remoaners want to blame everything in brexit. Earth tremors, brexit, severe storms brexit. The fact is that trade with the EU is at pre brexit levels. What do you want to complain about now?
I thought it would be obvious that when you leave a club they will make life as difficult as possible because they don't want anybody else to leave. A majority voted for Brexit and I am afraid everybody now has got to live with it.
Yes that is fact but there own citizens will be suffering as well as there are no separate lines for EU citizens on ports and friendly behaviour will attract young people in the UK but not the punishment. The consequences are already enough.
@@dennisgreene7164 i wish that it doesn't happen. The young generation is open in UK and EU and have no problems with each other they just slept in vote and didn't vote in referendum but they can always vote for what they want and bring the change without destroying the properties and without harming anyone.
@@Exploring_beautiful_world Correction!, the young generation is not open, unless its their legs, the young Brits are all me me me and you all owe me a lazy life, parents have failed from the mid 70's and you have ended up with a country once respected where today foreigners do not like Brits.
@@CarlosAlberto-ii1li well the time will decide better. But right wing is also growing in the EU unfortunately and french elections were very close. No one wants immigrants but there is no other option as many don't want to have children and want just european immigrants. I am an EU citizen and know how it's here. People want to eat Donner and asian food but don't want immigrants from Asia or Africa. I think Europe should give united states it's equal part of war immigrants and say no to wars which cause mass immigrations to Europe. When you take part in wars you should share the loss as well UK also supported US wars so definitely their part must be given to them as well.
For the Netherlands and on into Germany, Harwich to the Hoek is by far the best route. Great ships and very convenient on the overnight crossing. Disembarkation is at 8 a.m. I’m usually in Germany (Hunxe) by 10.
I will try it for sure atleast once to check as another viewer recommended it as well but the only problem is longer crossing time. Not bad for Scotland but not ideal for London from Karlsruhe. Thanks that you suggested it as well. I will share that experience as well all the best wishes towards Niederrhein. My firsr region when i moved to Germany. I still have many good friends in Kreis Wesel.
@@Exploring_beautiful_world Overnight you will not notice the 6 hour crossing. I can reach Erfurt in 5 hours including 3 breaks. The cabins are great and food is good too. Dover will seem just a bad memory!
as a trucker i will not use dover as its a hell hole if im going to france i use portsmouth/poole with brittany ferries going to holland use newcastle DFDS or Hull to rotterdam North Sea Ferries or Harwich to hook of holland -Spain from Portsmouth or Plymouth both Brittany Ferries
Sorry not me as i am an outsider but consider 48% before putting all in same pot as well. Same thing as a revenge won't be good so what we all should try is to get rid from these problems for ordinary persons which is also unfortunately the case in many EU countries. Take example of Frankfurt and Dublin where many flights were cancelled as staff was resigned and not employed again to increase earnings but it went bad too. Earnings of big companies might increase but at which price? Yes the same is also partially because of brexit but not only.
Well if it is not the start of holidays or a sunday, i don't think it will repeat itself. Just Google start of school holidays and avoid it. Compare tje prices if ferry price on your return day is 200 euros one-way you can have it again as i had and if it costs 85 to 90 euros one-way you'll be crossing quickly.
UK wanted to get out of the EU, so now the UK citizens are treated like any third country citizen and many checks apply. Would you let any foreigner enter the UK without checking them? Same thing here.
We do let them enter unchecked, every day, on dinghies, from France, in many cases your coastguard assist them to enter our waters where they become our responsibility.
did the same crossing on the 30th no problem got on an earlier crossing ship half full, same on the return on the 6th of June. WE were shocked that no trucks were stacked on the m20
Well Friday and Sunday are 2 special days when people travel mostly and i have crossed the channel on these days many times and it never happened before.
My father was on a BP Tanker in 1966 and as it neared Dunkirk it had to zig zag on the approach to avoid the sunken ships which had been there since the evacuation in June 1940
Welcome to the new normal. The closing of literally all ferry routes on the North sea over the last decade to destinations like Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany should have rung alarm bells.
Hope that a bridge or a road with dam can be made as a ship has emissions equal to some millions of cars. Afsluitdijk in Netherlands is also reality if British and French are not in the position, they should hire Dutch companies.
@@Exploring_beautiful_world The Afsluitdijk - a dike - is not a bridge. But there are more reasons why a bridge across the Channel is not possible. - the political climate after Brexit. Can you imagine how Brexiteers would react if someone announced a connection between the UK and the "Continent" ? And Brexiteers run the UK. - the cost : a 30 km long bridge across the rough North Sea, if even feasible it would cost more than a fortune. Which nobody has available at the moment. - a bridge with its many pillars would hinder traffic on one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
@@flitsertheo thanks for discussing the details and giving your opinion and i know Afsluitdijk very well as i have been there in Netherlands and have also shared my trip here in my uploads that's why i wrote a bridge or a road. Afsluitdijk is rather a road on man made slim island with two crossings on both ends for boats and these ferries can easily cross from there in my opinion. You are right about opposition and it is major issue not the blocking of ship routes actually with two bigger crossings available on both ends only. The only problem is the government as you said but it will be replaced when people will feel it is not beneficial in this way and promises were not kept. Illegal immigration can still be controlled as it hasn't stopped even after brexit. May be it has increased as Dublin treaty is not valid anymore after brexit and the people crossing the channel can't be sent back to France.
It's not the new normal. It was the start of half term and half the country was going on holiday. Which has always been the case. the week before, and the week after were fine. Take it from a local.

I wish that Uk remains united and select may be an option like Iceland, Switzerland, Lichtenstein or Norway. Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, Czech Republic, are still examples who aren't adopting euro as a currency EU citizens also don't move to Switzerland or Norway in a huge number where incomes are very high than in the UK. So i think a new party is needed in the UK which can really solve the problems of their citizens like affordable housing instead of lorry park in Ashford. It's also a big problem in Canadian cities right now.
Hate to break it to you, but half term summer holidays were always busy, even before brexit. And, operation Stack, operation dover tap. All used before brexit. This wasn't brexit, this was first days of the summer holdidays with one of the ferries still not running. Week before, week after were fine.
I feel really sorry for the people living in the houses facing the stalled traffic, with the exhaust fumes probably poisoning them. Some of those houses look really nice; I imagine the property values have plummeted.
Property prices are currently at peak at this time. The housing is one of the main problems in Europe the fuel and energy prices have increased in this year but housing is the biggest problem which people are facing since last 6 years in Europe. In UK may be since last 10 years.
Strange that it still hasn't ended yet. As UK's borders should be controlled well by UKBA and Rwanda plan should be causing more than fears to those coming to UK. If it's not working control isn't there as it was promised or am i wrong?

I travelled from Vienna to London on the 7th April 2022, at Dunkirk at 19:00 there were 8 cars for the 20:00 crossing ..That was it, the ferry to Dover was the quietest I have ever known it, on arrival at Dover I was pulled into customs but no problems, the customs bloke even told me on the return to get to Dover earlier than normal, so I did, on the 21st of April.... No queues at all, of cars or lorries, in fact 5 cars boarding this time, and got the ferry an hour earlier.. The 20:00 .. Ferry was like a ghost ship back to Dunkirk.... After seeing this video, I was glad I went on a Thursday in April and back on a Wednesday...
Wish you a good night. Australia is too far that only few dare to visit so it is not possible there. I'll dare once in my life for sure to visit your continent.
I think the main problem is is with covid loads of people re-evaluated their lives I didn't go back to work so there's a shortage of security staff and generally staff in all departments. Look at what's happening in flights to and in all walks of life . so it's not surprising this such huge que's
Many companies sacked their staff themselves although the furlough or similar was an option in many countries even in EU. But they want to save further even if things have got better which is not a good option. Some jobs can not be done from home.
It really baffles me that people are still trying to come up with alternative explanations, when the root cause is clearly Brexit and the deliberate choice to end alignment with and freedom of movement to and from the European Union as a consequence of that vote.
On the 11th of June I went from Portsmouth to Caen caught the 10-30pm boat no problems, awoke at 5-30 in a cabin, had an English breakfast which cost £6.50 then departed also without problems. Came back a week later departed at 8.30 am again no problems. I arrived at 6.30 am and No 6 in the queue. arrived 5 hours later in Portsmouth, after another English breakfast and rest then departed the boat held up at customs for half an hour due to being in a van the departed the port and on our journey home
Well i can wish that it changes at Dover too. The travel time will be decreased in this way. But i will surely try another option from the suggestions i got. The longer crossing can be used when coming to UK as i have family in London so on return it's always a wish to leave on last holiday and work on next day.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's something that we will have to put up with, as this is seen as acceptable. I thought about flying out, but then I'd need to hire a car. But I'm not going to put up with the service at the aiports, and cancelled flights at a minutes notice. Thanks for sharing.
The purpose is to raise our voice against unnecessary delays and not to discourage anyone from travelling just have a look on start of holidays and prices. I have already written this tipp that if one-way price of crossing is below 100 euro it won't be like this most probably and if single crossing costs above 150 euro it means many have booked ferry on this day. Flights are too expensive and airport staff shortage currently is even worse.
Just goes to show the total mess this country is in and red tape that British border force put upon us trying just to go about our daily business or on vacation, and dover Docks are a absolute disgrace just 1 burger bar in the whole dock system and absolutely nowhere to park if your to tired to drive and that's disgrace as far as truck driving and your very close on your hours for the day or even the end of your working week, great video showing how bad the British system is I hope you enjoyed your time in Europe.
Hi Mick, Thanks for liking the video and for your wishes this delay was actually from French may be as a revenge as the staff provided was too less for that day. I am a neutral person in a sense that i am neither from France nor from UK. Generally boarder control is always friendly even on that day but these delays are just mismanagement. Boarder should be functional and frictionless even after brexit for both sides. Idea of Schengen isn't as dangerous as considered by many in the UK. I am neither a fan of brexit nor enemy of those who voted for it. It has no direct impact on my life but it hasn't benefited anyone yet. I am sad for many young people who will need a visa and extra health insurance if they want to study or work in the EU or EEA. They have lost access in more than 30 countries including Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Lichtenstein. We have lost just one. But i still wish all the best for UK and a friendly relations with each other. UK and France are both big economies and have atomic power as well they should live friendly. No-one has any advantage by acting like this.

Bottom line is don't plan to travel at busy periods, but obviously for some folks that's not practical. We went to Le Mans last week, out of Dover at 22:50 with dfds, 3 cars in front of us at French border control, same three at dfds check in , 18 cars on the ship, plenty of lorries, straight off and down the A16 and A28. Quiet coming back on Sunday the 12th on the 20:00 as well, slowest bit in Calais was the UK border agency.
Blame it on the brexiteers. And no, the Afsluitdijk option would not be viable here, depth and currents in the Channel would definitely make that impossible.
I hope that they will come back the relationship between UK abd EU other than France is good and this will be hopefully ignored by younger generation. When they exactly understand that EU wasn't able to force Hungary, Poland and eastern EU members to accept refugees and immigration to UK is still increasing from other countries. Someone from Uk commented that we have had problems with housing otherwise we love diversity otherwise we'd have never voted for brexit. I'd say they should come to politics to solve these problems or vote other parties who have solutions for these problems. But diversity should remain only in this way we can live with peace.
Before the Czech and Poland joined the EU in 2004 I passed lines of trucks back 25km....yes its the new normal!! Unless Scotland becomes independent where by the trucks come over by Calais deliver their goods to England then travel north with a UK to Scotland load so little to no paperwork over the new Scottish border then reload with Scottish goods to the EU and take the ferry back to the EU from Scotland. A very simple cost effective round trip.....win, win win for the EU, UK and Scotland...
Hope that the country could remain united and accept that the decision doesn't bring any advantages and ask people again before this divorce what the majority now wants. The negligence of issues from big political parties will increase the chances of this divorce. Even Schengen doesn't hurt.

Well i somehow missed your comment but as already wrote in another comment that it's worse for everyone. To your opinion i would say wait and watch. If it's good for UK i will be happy as i have my close family members living there and in case if it doesn't work let's hope that people accept it as well and change their opinion. But what about the younger people who wanted to remain and didn't vote. Because of it they and younger generations lost the right to move, study or work freely without visas in 30 countries without any problems. But french behaviour isn't a solution of this problem either. I would say as an outsider from Germany that living like good neighbours is very important to attract youth in the future.
I go every time in the night. (10pm or later) no lorries, no traffic. Quick and easy. And most of the tmes the controls are not so long. I think the border control is the worst and need long.
Do the same, travel down from Scotland, get late ferry then cheap motel at Loon Plage overnight so fresh for early start towards whatever destination we are aiming for. Never had any problems with delays or hold ups.
Fun fact . Most of the cars registration plates I noticed are now "illegal" in the EU. British cars need to cover the EU sign at the left and put again UK sticker on their car. Beside that . It is sad what "taking back control" turned out to be ....
I don't think that it will really be checked other than exceptional cases. Theoretically even GB is not allowed. As you said only UK but practical implementation isn't really there. To be honest these things are not important as far as identifying is possible similarly the red british passport was with very beautiful pictures inside it on every page a different design which is replaced by very simple one the blue cover colour could be changed but the beautiful pictures on the pages inside were really good. The newer one has only blank pages inside it.

@@Exploring_beautiful_world hey so I wanted to share my experience. I went to the UK and back with my car my kids and wife. I did no test have no injection absolutely nothing. I got ZERO control at the French border and I'm by far not the only one (I've checked). In fact when passing the French customs the car in front of me did hand over papers that seemed to me like these printed QR test, and the French border officer refused to even take them He then handed over another paper. Then it was our turn and he did check our 5 passeports and then handed them back with a paper like the other people. On the paper it said : Covid compliant. At the check in they requested this paper and that was the end of the story. About the delays at the border I was quite concerned after seing your video and then receiving a text saying we had to be 120' minutes earlier than departure because of French border delays. Again no delay we ended up waiting the two hours at the docks and that was fine with nice weather and good atmosphere with the other travelers. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Many thanks for this video, I will not use Dover during school holidays and probably this year, this is Mogg’s brexit dividend! I never experienced delays such as you experienced at Dover prior to brexit, I have been lucky not having to travel during school holiday periods or fishing disputes. In the 80s I used to go over to France on a Sunday by moto, ride on the traffic free roads, have a fantastic cheap lunch, the exchange rate was £=€2.40, all for £5.00 return on the ferry, duty free available if interested, I never smoked and rarely drink alcohol. Look what 30 years of Tory mismanagement has delivered, ports and airports in chaos, queues redolent of the third world and the pound almost at Rock bottom. I have great sympathy for the truck drivers queuing with no facilities for basic human needs. We are all paying for the truck drivers delays, brexit has resulted in a 6% inflation in the food sector. I remember President butter used to sell for £.99p now it’s £2.50, my income hasn’t nearly tripled in the same period.
Thanks for your opinion as well. But i would say French officials should be ashamed for the delays as i felt deliberation in this case. British officials didn't even bother to open their counter so they tried well to avoid it. Punishing people for the brexit is wrong many small businesses are already punished on both sides of channel there is no winner. I also never had any delays even after brexit. I am from Germany and am neither supporter of brexit nor hate the persons who voted for it but fact is that only rich people in UK will get its benefits ordinary people have to pay more as you said as there is no health insurance for people travelling across the channel there are roaming charges soon for europeans as well while travelling to UK visas will be needed even if electronic authorisation is the name for that. Unity is always better. Fact is that politicians are liar regardless of where they are. Many politicians promis a lot more than what they can do just to win elections and at the end there are more and more taxes which people pay. Let's take example of 12 euro minimum wage in Germany it will start in October hopefully but the costs of living crisis is already biting many here too even if they are earning more than 12 euro per hour. Everything can be done in better way despite of brexit. Let's hope that we don't have world war 3. After handover of Afghanistan to same people with weapons and airplanes who were called terrorists before war there are many big questions which are open. At the end a point for the people who thought whatever they heard, i would never come to an idea to move to UK for benefits, as many brexit supporters believe, they are same here or partially better even if i am jobless which is only possible if i am too lazy as an electrical engineer. Only reason i will move anywhere will be an attractive job and they aren't bad here.
@@Exploring_beautiful_world I wish I had your tolerance. I'm afraid, being a strongly pro-EU Brit, I am pretty angry about those who voted Brexit without a thought or clue as to the consequences for the British economy. We even had Brits who own primary or secondary homes in France and Spain voting Brexit. In Britain we have a saying "turkeys voting for Christmas". Some people really should not be allowed to vote!
@@Exploring_beautiful_world In terms of Brexit the U.K. was in a transitionary period up to 31.1.20, due to covid the impacted on the U.K. becoming a third country was masked. The U.K. is a third country just the same as Nigeria or Pakistan, every person from a third country has to have their passport stamped in and out of the EU to monitor the 90 day limit. As far a I recall the French Customs and Immigration Services in Dover and Folkestone do not operate an EU channel and a non EU channel as at Airports, but I think this is a Port provided facility just as at Airports. Hence the complete shambles you experienced being an EU national is probably due to the Dover Port Authority rather than French Customs and Immigration, I presume they just provide staff in a service level agreement & DPA provide facilities. There is no advantage to the French in providing lots of additional personnel in Dover post brexit, unless the Brits are willing to pay for extra French staff, the Brits paid for the vastly increased security measures around Calais Port and the Tunnel. SMEs in the U.K. have been hit very hard by becoming a business exporting from a third country to the EU, many have given up trading with the EU completely due to the complications of customs declarations, VAT additional taxes & delivery charges. The Brits were told by their brexiteer MPs that nothing would change, everything has changed. Even Brits are complaining about Irish people sailing through Malaga airport in a couple of minutes and they have to wait hours to clear Immigration, the Irish are in the EU the Brits are not, it’s not just France being so called “difficult.” The French don’t really care or need British tourists, France has two and a half times the number of tourists of the U.K. The queues are not so bad at Fishguard, Pembroke, Plymouth and Newhaven Ports, I don’t know what the situation is at Harwich or Portsmouth. All that I can say is that if you are a European truck driver or tourist avoid the U.K. like the plague for several years until Johnson and his hopeless government make the investments required to ease the difficulties at British ports, they did nothing in terms of preparation for brexit from the day of the referendum to January ‘20 whereas the Dutch, French and Irish had made provision and were ready on 1.2.20 with all checks including veterinarian, hence the famous ham sandwich, then covid happened. Very little checks are done by the Brits on imports at U.K. RO-RO ports resulting in £billions lost in duties/taxes, delaying food deliveries at ports results in empty supermarket shelves and even higher costs for the consumer. Haven’t even mentioned the Northern Ireland Protocol!

I hope that it works for a bit longer. As some positive effects are also temporary. If business with continent Europe will decrease what current government is trying at its best, more ship captains or pilots for planes will be needed. But if you're a trucker North America is the heaven honestly.
The good news is on return buy a dinghy, you'll get a fast track pass Into UK. And as a plus the RNLI will escort you. And if you need a mobile phone it will be provided free of charge.

Well i don't think UK had really free movement in that sense as it's between France and Germany or France and Spain without any borders. As if a carrier causes a delay above 3 hours in EU there is a compensation without any problems. So they don't do it you might have seen many DFDS or P&O counters open but not sufficient immigration counters open at any port unfortunately.
Buy a dinghy for the return journey, half way back you will be picked up, taken ashore, be given a meal, a nice warm hotel, some money and a mobile phone, it will take half the time, then of course, call your mates on your free mobile, tell them how easy it is and come and join you !!
Someone already suggested and my response was please share the experience first. Btw it's way more expensive ask them who buy it how much do they pay to risk their lives.
I could have made that video 2 days earlier! What you also didn’t say is that the ferries are also running slower. Used to be 2hrs from Dover to ramp opening in Dunkirk. Now 2 hrs to get there, called to the car deck and about 2hrs 15 to 2 hrs 20 leave the ship. Can’t wait until the summer and then September for biometric id checks….
Well to be honest i didn't notice it after 4 hours delay. But generally speaking its too slow for this distance for sure. There are many options if carriers consider to start different options for cars and trucks. I know it is not easy but also not impossible.
@@Exploring_beautiful_world i often use Harwich/ Hook of Holland. Nothing has changed with Brexit as the border checks were/are completed when you arrive in the other country. Yes it’s a bit more expensive but it depends on if you are o/nighting somewhere on your journey anyway. The day boats are much cheaper, pay for a cabin and enjoy the journey will refreshed at the other end? Much less frustrating because i felt so much sadness seeing the ferry as you filmed it. All those regular East European families no longer on it and the wasted signs in Polish 😢
Well if UK takes people like Australia, Canada and Newzealand it won't hurt anyone to take people from around the world. But if more people and products will come from India, South America or China instead of EU it won't change a lot of things in the country.
Well depends from where you travel to a Schengen country. But yes with the time it will not be of any importance and it should be öike this actually. Even vaccinated have and spread the corona. I'm not a person against vaccines and have already got 3 doses. So everyone not having vaccine should be able to decide and travel at own risk without discrimination.

[Facepalm] Apart from things like allowing for the east-west traffic passing through the channel, you do realize that the circumstances are quite different - and not in favour of a bank/bridge solution over the Channel? When Germany and Dennark manage to get the Fehmarn Belt connection done THEN let's discuss something bigger. Still, the political support for such a solution will likely not exist on either side of "the divide". EU of-course not interested in financing anything that would primarily favour the UK, and any suggestion in the British Parliament to fund something that might tie UK more to EU would make the members of the ERG spin through the parliamentary roof. Or maybe.. Think of something more environmental-friendly. Maybe a tunnel with electric trains, and you drive your car/bus/truck onto that and cross the channel in, say, 30 minutes. Just might be feasible. Oh, wait.. Regardless of the transport solution, the fact that EU controls its borders will remain though. And as I understand it, that was the cause of the delays.
Let's see if even a little change can come. But fact is that another tunnel will be longer in length and again takes too much till it's ready to use, as France has 2 ports Dunkerque and Calais plus a tunnel to Falstone all with in 50 km it divides the traffic very well. UK should at least have another Port not far away from Dover may be a quicker solution for a short time and to Belgium may be Ostende. Tunnel is already there but costs double compared with ferry so if environnement friendly means expensive life the coming winter will be a taste of it. I would say if we die because of climate change and not because because people have nothing to eat it will be better because people may help each other as some of them still have something to give, if not than a civil war type of scenario can be predicted. How efficient these renewable energy resources are we have definitely seen with increasing electricity prices. So if environmental friendly thing is not human friendly it's useless. I hope that we can have good results and new possibilities to store the energy if it is the case we can have electric ferries as well.
@@Exploring_beautiful_world There used to be sailings from Folkestone, Ramsgate and Sheerness in Kent but they've closed as ferry ports, leaving only Dover in east Kent. Unfortunately it will not be a good idea to make also those feel bad who didn't want this divorce. There are already many other consequences just because of this decision.
The French cause the delays. Simple and straight forward bloody mindedness. Two immigration gates open when six are needed is not bad management but rather the French being as awkward as possible. Doubly annoying when you are actually travelling to Zeebrugge in Belgium!
It was exactly because of this reason but a response in the same way is the only way even if it will cause problems for all on the other side of the channel but may find a solution to avoid such ques.

Welcome to the Brexit Sir! It was obvious to anyone with half a brain the likely consequences of erecting barriers between you and your nearest neighbours. In the summer of 2018 we returned to the UK via the Calais-Dover route and encountered big queues caused by what I was informed was a minor hick-up in the software system controlling border entry from France to the UK - this before any of the significant changes implemented due to Brexit had occurred (the UK still being in the transition period at that stage). I vowed there and then to never ever again go anywhere near short sea crossing - a wise decision vindicated by your own experience illustrated here? I now cross on the less popular routes - Poole to Cherbourg, Roscoff to Plymouth etc. I retired in 2018 and moved to Cornwall so these longer crossings are now more convenient for me anyway. Good luck with future crossings - you'll need it This message comes from someone who voted to Remain, twice - the first time in June 1975, then again in June 2016.
All the best in the most beautiful beach region of the UK. May be you'll have to vote once again. Even if not i wish that these bad tactics can be stopped.
Your comment would be correct if it were the eu that were the problem....however its the port of dover authorities that are the delay....other ports operate freely without delay.... Another example of you making a comment without any involvement..experience or knowledge.
@@grantsharkey783 Your comment might be valid, except for one small problem. I DO have the relevant involvement, knowledge and experience - my entire working life having been involved in cross border supply chain management, customs procedures, logistics, international freight forwarding etc. In other words moving stuff from A to B on a commercial basis. The problems encountered at Dover are present elsewhere but not on the same scale because the Dover-Calais route handles the lions share of vehicle (groupage as it's called in the trade) between the EU and UK so the problems were always going to be manifested most obviously at Dover (and on the other side of La Manche). Due to two unavoidable factors the Port of Dover could not create the necessary infrastructure required to mitigate the blindingly obvious problems that were going to occur because the UK decided to willingly inflict self-harm (to paraphrase the words uttered by Rees-Smug himself) by pursuing the ideologically deranged version of Brexit Johnson and his coterie of lunatics foisted on us, ie. exiting not only the EU but also the Single Market (this latter element being something that was NOT on the ballot paper in June 2016). 1. They did not have enough time - remember that the Johnson led administration endlessly prevaricated, deliberately as some kind of misguided negotiating tactic, to agree future terms of trade between the UK and EU - so Dover didn't know what kind of cross-border environment they would be dealing with until just weeks before its implementation - creating the kind of infrastructure required would take years 2. Even once they knew what they were dealing with Dover doesn't have enough physical space to create the necessary infrastructure - you must be aware of the geographical/topographical constraints applicable at Dover? So, maybe BEFORE you post your next comment, engaging your own brain might be a good idea?

I guess you're right as at this time many don't prefer to travel. I don't know what Netherlands' vaccine rules are but i don't think it's different compared to France you need either vaccine or a test for France. I think they were operating normally. This was on 29.05.2022 when only 2 immigration counters were open from French side. As it was at immigration counter. In France you first check-in to operator DFDS or P&O and go to immigration counter but in Dover the sequence is opposite to that. The UKBA did a favour that they did not check anyone going out of country and kept all their counters closed.

This is bound to be so. You'll have to get used to it. You are not part of the EU any more. You are extra-communitarians. The same happens here in Italy for those coming from Africa. The difference is that we require health passport as well as national passports and visas. And that requires even more time. Sorry!
@@Exploring_beautiful_world Because there is no difference now in your country between EU citizens and non EU citizens. The distinction exists in Dunquerque for incoming traffic. Well, people wanted Brexit and that's the outcome of it. Shouldn't surprise anyone though as was pretty clear what's going to happen. Think before act I guess
Why does the UK need another port to continental Europe? They have 8 already. Also, there are plenty of public transport options available so you don't have to drive your car halfway across Europe and needlessly contribute to polluting the atmosphere.
Well pollution is almost unavoidable it can only be reduced if sufficient alternatives are there. There are also many ports un France but they have 2 for UK just within 50 km away from each other so they don't have ques. I also hoped for a bridge or a road like afsluitdijk can also divide the traffic. It will definitely reduce pollution as less ferries will be needed.
That is the most small minded little Englander comment I have heard in a long time. People don't necessarily need to travel to a schedule you dictate. Who says they are driving cars halfway across Europe. How do you know their circumstances - if they flew, they would probably still need a hire car so they could actually be saving emissions. I could be driving my car off the ferry for a mile to a hotel for all you know. Public transport my arse.
@@dennisgreene7164 well public transport or trains are too expensive and not reliable as well they are always late. I agree as an EU citizen that Europe generally is in crisis and ordinary people are suffering from inflation and many other problems where politicians are making profits their facilities and salaries are always increasing and poor is getting more and more poor. Today almost 40% of fuel prices are different taxes on the name of reducing emissions but they cannot be reduced until living near job is possible many people have to travel a lot for work as there aren't enough houses or flats. The only option is to provide alternatives which aren't there. Renewable energy resources are also not so efficient and reliable that we can immediately avoid conventional resources.
This is the first time that I have viewed your channel, so from your captions at the beginning, I do not know your nationality, but I assume that you live in Europe (somewhere). I'm afraid that the situation in Dover is an absolute disgrace, but getting things improved there is unlikely with our totally useless Department for Transport. I certainly agree with your comment at 14:05 about another port in the North East (eg. Harwich, Hull, or Newcastle) as this is something that would relieve the unnecessary congestion in Kent. When I was younger, I often made trips across the channel with no problems at all and was always made to feel welcome, but now I would not even think about a car ferry, especially with children. May I suggest that if you want to risk a visit to UK again, that you fly to one of the smaller, friendlier airports like Norwich in England (well served by KLM) or Cardiff in Wales, or even Aberdeen in Scotland and use a rental car.
Well i am from Germany. You guessed it correctly that i am not from UK so i can't have the perfect selection of words like a native speaker. I would say the main reason of delays at UK's French boarder is that both countries don't have friendly relations after brexit specially because of issues like fishing and refugees crossing channel. Both countries try to show we are more valuable or more powerful. Actually they are same, none is better or worse, and the only two differences among them are are currency and language. But when they decide to punish each other it also causes problems for their own citizens. Well your transport department is not doing it's job really well. Public transport isn't affordable in London atleast compared to all other European metropolitan cities like Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Prag, Vienna, Hamburg, Paris and Copenhagen. Although public transport in Germany isn't perfect but it's not too expensive atleast. On average 8 euros a day including some cruises in Hamburg for example.
@@Exploring_beautiful_world in fact with Brexit France has to increase highly the number of border police, years before Brexit, but with the increase of migrants trying to cross, the customs new checks ( third country) they can't be there and in Dover. Not only did you get harassed in Dover, but also in Dunkirk, Calais, and Boulogne, BOTH sides of the channel! The Common Market, morphed into the European Union, which carried its own range of madness's. Eventually there were sufficient numbers of people in Britain, totally sick and tired of the E.U's crazies, that Brexit became a reality. So, now the British Border Control Freaks can exercise their lunatic practices to the extreme. What angers me even more, is that the Border Control Freaks have such a high opinion of themselves, when in fact they are just parasites, living on taxes. I'm sure that if there was an ''Open Season'' on British Border Control Freaks, not many would survive. .

@@Exploring_beautiful_world There's a school of thought, that Britain became ''Great'' because of immigration. All the forward thinkers moved to Britain to escape the persecutions of the catholic church! Britain's most famous, historical Engineer, Isambard, Kingdom Brunel, was a French Huguenot, who's family left France for that very reason. There were many more. Brittan's infrastructure was built mainly by Irish immigrants. Loads of low skilled jobs were taken up by immigrants from all over the ''British Empire'' which was a deliberate government policy, but that also changed the UK for the better. Thousands of Chinese, Indian, and other restaurants, all over the UK changed British eating habits completely. More recently, thousands of eastern European immigrants, worked in the construction industry, and elsewhere but since Brexit, have returned to their own countries, so there's a shortage of labour now. What's the attraction of the UK, to immigrants? Mainly its very loose and uncontrolled benefit system. Far too many Idle Brits living on benefit permanently, that need to be removed from it. So, all in all, the immigration is not necessarily bad, except for Muslims, in my opinion. They are just potential trouble. as France, and other European countries have found out, to their cost. Well done Gammons, this is what you voted for.
Thanks for the video, I am going over to dover in 2 weeks time. I have now only booked one way and will take the train back.
@@simonh6371 Your problem if you do. In EU we try to control it, so yes, you want to enter EU, you have to sow your passport.

Respect for every effort to save human lives.

The EU bureaucrats have so much to answer for along with the unwanted waves of illegals all funded by the tax payers

Hi Mick,
Thanks for liking the video and for your wishes this delay was actually from French may be as a revenge as the staff provided was too less for that day.

Well i have got the experience now😂. I'll think next time about these factors.
Blame it on the brexiteers. And no, the Afsluitdijk option would not be viable here, depth and currents in the Channel would definitely make that impossible.
Rubbish
That's it, blame those thoroughly evil brexiteers. Now the source of all your problems.
Don’t think I’ll be venturing to Dover in the distant future
I Live in Belgium but am British and I would not have voted for Brexit if I could have voted, no way, they voted with their feet and not their heads
@@Exploring_beautiful_world ...Only a plebiscite will be the answer to the continuation of the Union , but there is no problem for Scotland to become similar to NI, but that would still need a border...as with NI

I don't think that it will really be checked other than exceptional cases. Theoretically even GB is not allowed. As you said only UK but practical implementation isn't really there. As you said that Switzerland is not in the EU but it's still a member of EEA so you don't need a passport and ID card is sufficient to travel anywhere in the EU. If you're planning a trip to UK don't forget your passport. UK doesn't need any proof of vaccination but France as said earlier according to rules wants one of them either proof of vaccination or a negative test. At least passports will surely be checked the rest depends on official on counter.

Did the same journey on 4th June: none of that then! (But it was P & O Dover/Calais route I was on).
You were lucky to travel later as on 29.05.2022 it was regardless of carrier whether one booked P&O or DFDS or Irish all suffered.
Some people panic to much at times, and then things go wrong!!!
But sometimes it's the mismanagement from organisers which is also the case here honestly.
So few cars with UK stickers on the rear, I thought it was compulsory?
Theoretically yes but checks are really rare.
Ahh P&O. I won't be travelling on them ever again after they shafted their workers.
Have only been on the ferry when with a coach party - we always use the tunnel by choice.
All those regular East European families no longer on it and the wasted signs in Polish 😢
we should be stopping people coming in not out
Well if UK takes people like Australia, Canada and Newzealand it won't hurt anyone to take people from around the world. But if more people and products will come from India, South America or China instead of EU it won't change a lot of things in the country.
None of the spanish holiday destinations have been checking vaccine status. Portugal is the only one i know have been.
Well depends from where you travel to a Schengen country. But yes with the time it will not be of any importance and it should be öike this actually. Even vaccinated have and spread the corona. I'm not a person against vaccines and have already got 3 doses. So everyone not having vaccine should be able to decide and travel at own risk without discrimination.
well said, couldn`t agree more.

Torys eh…
“Govern-Mental”
Those trucks have done all their customs formalities, the only reason for the Q was a lack of ferries no P&O nothing to do with Brexit
Well about truckers you might be absolutely right but P&O was operating on this day at its full capacity. Brexit has only this to do with it that french british relationship isn't same any more i am an outsider so am honest here and have written here that french opened just two counters on a Sunday which is connected with school holidays in UK. So mismanagement and your government must have recorded protest against this behaviour but no-one knows about it.
Re Afsluitdijk: Are you seriously suggesting something like that between Britain and the European continent? [Facepalm]
Apart from things like allowing for the east-west traffic passing through the channel, you do realize that the circumstances are quite different - and not in favour of a bank/bridge solution over the Channel?
Ferries linked with Boulogne too. There are still sailings from Newhaven (a long way from Dover) to Dieppe, but both those ports are much smaller. However, it's a much less stressful experience.
yeh we had a similar situation waiting to board a cruise ship last year got down to the port in plenty of time had all our vaccines and boosters then the cruise ship also wanted to have a non government pcr test we had to go to get a test that they would accept which cost ninety quid each for us both we had to wait two days before we boarded the ship then stood once we arrived on the tarmac for three hours before we could board it then once we were allowed anywhere near the ship we were checked checked and thripple checked through these tents then went into the departure lounge to be called that you your number was negative by sending a text to your phone night mare however disembarking back into england left ship on our own accord by contacting the reception took our own luggage off and walked through customs no one there to stop you

Welcome to the Brexit, Sir.
Euro officials are criticised for hindering the travel, but do you think the British officials are likewise?
I haven't experienced the same till now on the other side and hope it remains always good. Euro is a bit too big, which is not confirmed by anyone in more than 200 comments they are french but some experienced same in Calais. I didn't find any border staff who treated me badly from both countries even on this day. So they were always friendly till now.
@@Exploring_beautiful_world I think the best solution is to travel via Harwich, Portsmouth or Hull (Immingham).

Did you know that it's illegal to drive in this country holding a mobile phone or camera and as for for Brexit, that's democracy for you, something that some EU countries have ignored when the people wanted to vote (either that or the politicians kept asking the question until they got right answer!).
Where is it allowed to hold phone or camera in the hand while driving in Europe? But it's not illegal to fix it on dashboard. As far as Brexit is concerned it has now unfortunately happened. For me personally a bad decision for both parties but i am an outsider and Brits have to live with or without it.

Good luck with future crossings - you'll need it
This message comes from someone who voted to Remain, twice - the first time in June 1975, then again in June 2016.
1. They did not have enough time - remember that the Johnson led administration endlessly prevaricated, deliberately as some kind of misguided negotiating tactic, to agree future terms of trade between the UK and EU - so Dover didn't know what kind of cross-border environment they would be dealing with until just weeks before its implementation - creating the kind of infrastructure required would take years

This is bound to be so. You'll have to get used to it. You are not part of the EU any more. You are extra-communitarians. The same happens here in Italy for those coming from Africa. @@Exploring_beautiful_world Because there is no difference now in your country between EU citizens and non EU citizens. The distinction exists in Dunquerque for incoming traffic.

Thank You
I'm going to Austria next month and Dover will be my first stop
Just wanted to make sure what exacly i need
Immigration only need 2 stations as the dingy divers dont use them only law abiding people do
😂
I would imagine that most who had voted Brexit have never traveled to Europe making their decision to leave based on ignorance😵💫
I never thought like this before your comment. May be it is like this but unfortunately we don't have any statistical data.
If they are not travelling to e.u., then it wouldn't bother them would it? Really thought that one through didn't you.
@@frankwilkinson6328 i didn't say that i don't agree but only 2 persons' travel history confirms your answer Mr Johnson and UKIP former leader Mr Farage.
Did I miss something 🤔
It's fine if you mean a travel on this day.
Britain first joined the Common Market, = ''free travel of people and goods within the boundaries.''
*Britain NEVER adhered to that principle.*
All around Europe there are empty closed border control buildings, but NOT in Britain.
I'm sure that if there was an ''Open Season'' on British Border Control Freaks, not many would survive.
.
But still nothing has changed. It was easier to send them back to EU countries from where they came because of Dublin treaty which isn't going to work well so Rwanda came as an option which is also not working as many legal challenges are there so number is increasing despite of brexit.

There's a school of thought, that Britain became ''Great'' because of immigration.
All the forward thinkers moved to Britain to escape the persecutions of the catholic church!
Britain's most famous, historical Engineer, Isambard, Kingdom Brunel, was a French Huguenot, who's family left
France for that very reason.
''Islam is not a religion, it is a political terrorist organisation posing as a religion.''
That's the conclusion of the Vatican, which might be considered as a world expert on religion.

@@Exploring_beautiful_world In Australia we grab the imports before they can get ashore, ship them to Christmas island and leave them there. Do the same, take them the the channel islands, France is very close. Leave them in detention, deny access to solicitors and the press and any do gooders. And then fly them to Rwanda when no one is looking. They only get to come to Australia if they can prove they are dying, and then its more of the same, more detention before we send them back. We didn't invite them, we don't want them. Get in line like every other refugee.
@@couttswwell Australia is too far to reach for anyone compared to Europe. The only way is to say no to any war and stop supplying weapons to Middle Eastern countries. Before Brexit there was a rule to send anyone back to the EU country where they first come like France. Why it wasn't working in the UK and working in Hungary not to take refugees i don't understand. These are just arguments to get power and i guess and leaving EU was an idea which many supported with the hope to get higher wages and better jobs which hasn't happened. Immigrants are now coming from other countries instead of EU and still working on lower wages. In EU there are many countries where salaries are much higher than in the UK. Switzerland and Norway are just same to access like any EU state as they are in EEA. Many think that language is the reason that people come to UK why is than Ireland not facing the problems such as cheaper workers taking the jobs of Irish people as these were just lies. Many in europe speak more than one language lile German, French or Dutch as there are many opportunities with learning. Even if they are illegal immigrants, they can be used in a better way by offering them learning with opportunity to work or nothing if they don't learn anything.
