Bandsaw are relatively safe, planers not so much. Neither will likely have guards. If you plan on fixing the planer and using it, make or have made guards. If a planer throws a blade, it can kill you. Fireball tool has some cool videos of him making guards for a similar bandsaw.
You are so talented. It’s amazing how you are able to do most everything yourself, like a “jack of all trades”. I really enjoy being a part of your journey. Thank you for sharing.
That was one thing I was NOT expecting in your home renovation, acquiring authentic, vintage, Hall & Brown equipment and the AMOUNT of equipment, especially considering how rare it is. I really admire your passionate sleuthing! Can't wait to see all the windows and metal grates back in and restored and the entire façade gone of all the terrible paint that's been suffocating the stone. You help me to see that I can do far more than I think I can (with restoration work).
I am wondering , Kaleb, if you are the reincarnation of Mr. Brown!😂. You are so dedicated to the house and gathering everything Hall & Brown! Not that that is a bad thing. Love your videos and what you are doing!
Kaleb ( Caleb? ), with the screws of your window ironwork on the outside, it is worth filling the heads with some hard filler. It will make life difficult for a prospective burglar.
Wow, I’d love to see Hand Tool Rescue (YT channel) work on one of those machines-that would be just an amazing series. Thanks for another good video ❤️! Also, I just moved into a house that is 116 years old-it doesn’t need nearly as much work done as your house, but I’m still overwhelmed. I can’t imagine taking on your house. I was already impressed by what you’ve accomplished so far (been following along since the second video), but now there’s also the awe factor (or the wowza factor).
I received my wonderful sweatshirt. Guys it’s as beautiful as you advertised. Now I have a piece of your talent and Mr Browns legacy… thank you so much
It's a pretty good thing you and Kim are planning to be together forever because 10 years from now when you find a new machine we'd have no clue how big it REALLY is without a Kim-for-comparison.
The drone shots are epic. Adds production value. Get that shop cleared out, secured, and put those tools inside under lock and key …and a modern security system.
yeah we tried that but unfortunately its a bigger issue than we first thought. We have to remove the entire roof, then put in new beams, new roofing, etc.
Just so amazing you are able to find and get these beautiful old machines by Hall & Brown , I love that you and Kim are restoring this house to it's former beauty and at the same time sharing the history of it with us.
Suggestion: Buy a storage container to store those machines in until you get your workshop built and then after you move the machines in the new building, sell the storage container. Resale demand is high on them, especially for ones that haven't been damaged or neglected.
I love the old woodworking machines...... I'm a furniture maker from Bucks County Pennsylvania and my old fan saw is a Delta that's about 80 years old that I restored so I'm very empathetic and I know what it takes to bring those back those machines
Can you send us some rain here in Central Texas. We are dying for rain. You are getting rained on, and it's to hot here for me to work out side. It's been so hot here you can bake cookies in your car. I just love to see those old machines. My dad used to take me to see old restored farm tractors. And I love to collect old sewing machines. Great video.
Wow that's amazing that you found those machines like that. You should have your workshop up and running in no time. That window grate looks great.Well have fun guys and be careful with the heat. The humidity is so bad.
*Kaleb, Some YT channels to look up as I also follow them. But first get 'Evapo-rust' as it will remove rust, get a huge barrel & soak all parts in it. 'Fireball Tool' has old machinery and has made covers to make them all safe. 'Keith Rucker-VintageMachinery' also does up very old machines. 'Hand Tool Rescue' has a awesome channel too on taking old tools and machinery and making them look new again, and he has also made tools from the original drawings.*
Already trying to plan that out. When i build it, it will be a 2 story 2nd empire rather large carriage house. 13ft ceilings for the shop itself and take a bit of inspiration from the house itself. Since we have the knifes for the molding on the mansard roof already made I plan on using a lot of the same molding on the carriage house. These machines will not be static though as i plan on using them to restore the house and the city with them for as long as my body will allow.
Caleb, my daughter and I are restoring an old colored school in Texas to be an event center. You are such an inspiration. For years we have salvaged parts of other school houses in order to bring ours back to historically accurate. We hope to soon make some progress that is video-able! Did you do your own graphic arts for your Hall and Brown logo, and the 2nd Empire logo? We are interested in getting one made for ourselves and would appreciate any advice or direction about whom to contact. Thanks, Amy
I build the Main channel logo with some assets from Heritage Type. The Hall and Brown Logos are vector tracings from the old catalogue's. Someone designed those over a hundred years ago. If someone you know or if you yourself has any photoshop/ Illustrator experience then putting together a decent looking logo with the Heritage Type assets is pretty easy. and a good way to go. They do cost a little bit but its worth the time savings alone. Best of luck to you and your daughter! Sounds like an amazing project. Let me know if you do make a video i would love to see it. -Kaleb
If you’re trying rust removal without sandblasting 100% try barkeepers friend you can find it at hardware stores? Target, and Walmart for under $2 a can. And works amazing. Here’s hoping for a break in the rain and you can get that too window fixed. It looks like it’s about to come off! But the outside of the home especially where you’ve taken off paint and removed the cement/plaster from over the stone looks SOOO much better. And the reinstalled grating looks so good! Should be really proud of all the work the two of you have put in!
Always love your work to gift you both with this beautiful dream. But one cautionary note,Just hoping your flat spot of the middle of the roof gets either a dome shaped window above,or something that can bear weather, and shed rain 😁👏👏🌟🎉🎻
I'm making a bucket list of things that are realistic & actually feasible for me to accomplish. Visiting you, Kim & your amazing home for a tour & actually getting to see all of this in person some day is at the top of my list. Fair warning: I will cry;have tissues!
Well we do hope to meet you some day soon! and no worries about the tears. I cant think of a better complement to what i am trying to achieve here. Be well Kirsten -Kaleb
I got my sweatshirt and already wore it! Love it!!!!! My 10yr old daughter is already eyeing it though lol. It’s truly wonderful!! The only thing I would change is a bigger neck opening, but it is not tight. I’m a tall girl lol. If you have a big head or neck you may want to size up maybe 2 sizes. I sized up 1 as like things bigger, but next one I’ll size up 2. So awesome!
One of the best historians of the history of St. Louis is also one of the finest Machinist who knows about every factory in the old city. He has restored many old pieces. I sent him this video, hope he is interested. His last name is Genna, one of the best men I have known. I applaud you for your work. I love St. Louis !!!!
So, how cool would it be if you were able to purchase the adjacent lot, where Mr. Hall's house was, and to rebuild a version of that house as a Hall&Brown museum? You could combine the volume of the basement and the ground floor into a single volume if you need the ceiling height, with only a short section at the facade and at the back entrance that are ground floor level, each of which carries staircases up to the second floor and from there to the attic/mansard floor. The ground floor could be the workshop, and the upper floors could be museum display spaces, offices, or even overnight accommodations for guests. Not sure how feasible any of this is, but having a lovingly recreated facade of Mr. Hall's house would really turn up the style factor on that section of the street. If it could be recreated in limestone based off the measurements of the Brown house, that would be the icing on the cake.
I would also love to see a museum next door in the adjacent lot featuring the priceless H & B woodwork tools and a library, demonstrations, classes, etc..
The machines are fantastic. I admire anyone who has the knowledge and equipment to make anything. Wood working has always interested my but my particular passion is sewing and old sewing machines (I have 5). I look forward to watching you use your acquisitions and see the results you achieve.
That’s so awesome Caleb in finding those Hall & Brown machines. I’m very excited for you. Wishing you the best to hopefully get them working again. Totally awesome! You did a fine job on the window n the bars look brand new. Really looks nice. We’re having lots of rain here in Florida too. Can’t get much done on the outside when it’s pouring rain. ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍

In some cities, those bars on the basement windows are considered a safety hazard as if there were a fire and that was the only way out, it would be very hard to egress the building!🔥😜
It so wonderful that your able to aquire these wonderful tools. Be very careful when using them. It must feel wonderful to be living your dream. Saint Louis is so lucky to have someone like you. Your doing an incredible job show others what can be done to restore and bring back to life these beautiful old land marks.
That basement window with iron works looks so good! One window at the time, and with all the stonework you're reclaiming/renovating, somewhere between 'soon' and 'eventually', the groundlevel will start to look like an actual home 'home' instead of a house under reno. Yeah i here great things about it. But i want to figure this method out as i plan to build a box lined with plastic around the planner and let it take a "bath" for about 2 weeks.
