- Dinsdag 5 juni was het dan zover: Het Prinses Máxima Centrum voor kinderoncologie werd officieel geopend door koningin Máxima. Alle kennis en expertise op het gebied van kinderkanker komt nu samen in één ziekenhuis in Utrecht. Zo krijgt ieder ziek kind in Nederland de beste zorg en stijgt de overlevingskans.
Nadat koningin Máxima een beeld onthulde werd de opening direct feestelijk gevierd met een optreden van zangeres Maan en het bekende kinderkoor Kinderen Voor Kinderen. Ook dj's Sunnery James en Ryan Marciano waren aanwezig. Zij zijn ambassadeurs van het Centrum geworden.
In deze video komt ook kinderoncoloog Rob Pieters aan het woord. Hij nam 12 jaar geleden met een groep ouders en zorgproffesionals het initiatief voor het Prinses Máxima Centrum. Voor hem is het een droom die uitkomt.
Verder hebben we de ouders van Thomas (5) gesproken. Ellen en Maarten kregen anderhalf jaar geleden te horen dat hun zoontje Thomas neuroblastoom had. Inmiddels gaat het beter met Thomas en kreeg hij zijn laatste behandelingen in het Prinses Máxima Centrum. Zij vertellen over hun ervaringen.
