This song to me means something entirely different. I know it’s intended as a break up song but it takes me back to when my son was on the icu when he first was diagnosed with cancer. He had necrosis in his throat from sepsis and was having life threatening bleeds, needing tonnes of blood transfusions. I sat by his side and said if he wanted to go he can go if he needs to. If it will bring him peace and end suffering. Don’t fight just for my advantage. “If you tell me you’re leaving, I’ll make it easy, it’ll be okay. If we can’t stop the bleeding, we don’t have to fix it, we don’t have to stay. I will love you either way”. This validates my emotions so deeply from that time. My sons ok now and still on chemo and it’s looking very good for him. The trauma is still there and this song brings me such comfort. More than a break up song x

I think the break ups that end in good terms or where there isn’t a person to blame is the most painful of them all. I am in this exact position, I grew up and changed too much for the relationship he changed too and we weren’t compatible. Still it’s one of the hardest things, to let go of someone when you love them so much and know that they feel the same. Right person wrong time..

The process of trying to fix everything up and failing over and over again, putting effort into someone and something that don't want to change or be helped. Sometimes we just can't stop the bleeding even though it's our biggest desire to make it work. Going from "I can't imagine a world without you" to "I start to imagine a world where we don't collide", that's the hardest part of it, acknowledging that there's nothing else we can do to save it. The future we've dreamed of is fading to black and we shall let go. That's harsh. Really beautiful break up song, unlike all the others, it gives us hope and motivation for the long and hard process of healing that's about to come
The song is so beautifully written. Amid the breakup news, this is -obviously- about that. What i get from it, is a level of maturity "If we can't stop the bleeding, we don't have to fix it, we don't have to stay". They love each other but not as intensively as in the beginning and the dark moments were probably more common than the good moments as of late. Although he loves her, he will not stay or try to fix it, if they're on different paths at this point. They may need this break , just to get their minds straight. The line "The future we had dreamed of, is fading to black" is so gut wrenching: when you love someone really deeply , you imagine a future with that person, and when love fades away, the harsh moment when you realize, the future you had imagined with that person, is also out the window.
So, on the basis that sluts move on and "mature people" fix their problems, if a person is being abused by their partner, and they have the chance to leave, (because more than often they don't.) They're supposed to stay and try to fix those problems? The book definition of a slut is a person who has casual partners. A casual partner as in their not in any sort of serious relationship and know they're seeing other people. Sometimes you want to fix it, but they already moved on long before they wanted to break up at all. Some things aren't worth saving. It's blatantly disrespectful to call someone a slut just because they decided to leave instead of staying in a relationship with someone who didn't want to be in one anymore. They can always get back together if BOTH SIDES OF THE RELATIONSHIP agree to it. It's toxic to try and force someone to try and work things out in their relationship. Now, seeing the type of person you are, you're gonna respond in 1 of 3 ways. 1. You lose the point of my comment and just start insulting me and saying I'm defending him because I'm a 16 year old girl who's in love, when that isn't true. 2. You ignore this message completely. Or 3. You go to the absolute extreme and do something uncalled for. And fyi, unless you know what it's like to lie awake at night crying and wondering if something's wrong with you because of what they said, if they'd be better with someone else because they nitpick every single thing you do, ignore you indefinitely just because you wanted to help them. Sometimes a song isn't about what the artiest intended it to be. Sometimes it becomes something more powerfully, something profound. Something everyone can take what they need, make it their own. This may have been a song between him and his relationship. However, for some it's much more then a relationship between two people who love each other. Rather just a relationship that has ran it's course, even if it's just with yourself. ("it was an amazing ride, but this is where I get off"). I'm listening to this song for the first time in years. My then girlfriend broke up with me one night during a sleepover, right before I was planning to tell I loved her for the first time. I spent all night on the couch of her living room listening to songs, mostly this one, bawling my eyes out. It's been two years and a half but I will never forget how much I loved her through all those sad sleepless hours. The very way and reasons why she broke up with me were coming from the traits I loved the most about her. I try to tell myself that I moved on, but listening to this again did hurt a little more than it should, it's still bittersweet to me how much I loved her and how the circumstances broke us apart right before I could let her know.

This song to me means something entirely different. I know it’s intended as a break up song but it takes me back to when my son was on the icu when he first was diagnosed with cancer. He had necrosis in his throat from sepsis and was having life threatening bleeds, needing tonnes of blood transfusions. I sat by his side and said if he wanted to go he can go if he needs to. If it will bring him peace and end suffering. Don’t fight just for my advantage. “If you tell me you’re leaving, I’ll make it easy, it’ll be okay. If we can’t stop the bleeding, we don’t have to fix it, we don’t have to stay. I will love you either way”. This validates my emotions so deeply from that time. My sons ok now and still on chemo and it’s looking very good for him. The trauma is still there and this song brings me such comfort. More than a break up song x

The process of trying to fix everything up and failing over and over again, putting effort into someone and something that don't want to change or be helped. Sometimes we just can't stop the bleeding even though it's our biggest desire to make it work. Going from "I can't imagine a world without you" to "I start to imagine a world where we don't collide", that's the hardest part of it, acknowledging that there's nothing else we can do to save it. The future we've dreamed of is fading to black and we shall let go. That's harsh. Really beautiful break up song, unlike all the others, it gives us hope and motivation for the long and hard process of healing that's about to come

The song is so beautifully written. Amid the breakup news, this is -obviously- about that. What i get from it, is a level of maturity "If we can't stop the bleeding, we don't have to fix it, we don't have to stay". They love each other but not as intensively as in the beginning and the dark moments were probably more common than the good moments as of late. Although he loves her, he will not stay or try to fix it, if they're on different paths at this point. They may need this break , just to get their minds straight. The line "The future we had dreamed of, is fading to black" is so gut wrenching: when you love someone really deeply , you imagine a future with that person, and when love fades away, the harsh moment when you realize, the future you had imagined with that person, is also out the window.
That's not maturity, that's the exact opposite. Sluts move on, mature people fix their problems
So, on the basis that sluts move on and "mature people" fix their problems, if a person is being abused by their partner, and they have the chance to leave, (because more than often they don't.) They're supposed to stay and try to fix those problems? The book definition of a slut is a person who has casual partners. A casual partner as in their not in any sort of serious relationship and know they're seeing other people. Sometimes you want to fix it, but they already moved on long before they wanted to break up at all. Some things aren't worth saving. It's blatantly disrespectful to call someone a slut just because they decided to leave instead of staying in a relationship with someone who didn't want to be in one anymore. They can always get back together if BOTH SIDES OF THE RELATIONSHIP agree to it. It's toxic to try and force someone to try and work things out in their relationship. Now, seeing the type of person you are, you're gonna respond in 1 of 3 ways. 1. You lose the point of my comment and just start insulting me and saying I'm defending him because I'm a 16 year old girl who's in love, when that isn't true. 2. You ignore this message completely. Or 3. You go to the absolute extreme and do something uncalled for. And fyi, unless you know what it's like to lie awake at night crying and wondering if something's wrong with you because of what they said, if they'd be better with someone else because they nitpick every single thing you do, ignore you indefinitely just because you wanted to help them. To be broken down and feel like you don't deserve love. Then don't call anyone a slut. So yes, we leave, and I guess alot of people are sluts by your definition. I'm sorry about whoever hurt you, but that doesn't give you an excuse to hurt anyone else. In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

I'm listening to this song for the first time in years. My then girlfriend broke up with me one night during a sleepover, right before I was planning to tell I loved her for the first time. I spent all night on the couch of her living room listening to songs, mostly this one, bawling my eyes out. It's been two years and a half but I will never forget how much I loved her through all those sad sleepless hours. The very way and reasons why she broke up with me were coming from the traits I loved the most about her. I try to tell myself that I moved on, but listening to this again did hurt a little more than it should, it's still bittersweet to me how much I loved her and how the circumstances broke us apart right before I could let her know.

Have you seen the video of him recording the song and pictures? He was having fun, laughing messing around, and he recorded the song two months before he even broke up with her. After recording the song, he went to party in Austin for a few days. He wasn't heart broken when he wrote this. After announcing the breakup, he partied in NYC and then two days later flew to Costa Rica to party for two weeks where he was rumored to hook up with a couple of women including the SOL Model. Pretty lyrics but he did her pretty wrong.
