Put a positive spin on it Dan. You haven’t played much, you hardly practice, you haven’t played in any tournaments but yet you still finished above almost half of the field. I’d call that a good result #glasshalffull

Lovely tribute to Ray Reardon, Dan. You and he…..both class acts!
Interesting that, even at your level, nerves and emotions play such a huge part in performance, and to finish where you did whilst not comfortable is a good achievement. Great Sunday Morning Show.

We used to get Pot Black on TV in Australia.
I remember as a boy my Dad telling me how much he loved watching Ray Reardon. It must have been marvelous to be able to speak with a true great if a sport.

I used to watch Pot Black when I was a kid, it was in black and white and the commentator had to tell you what colour ball the player was hitting.

Hi Dan. Good to hear a status report. The nerves thing... that's normal coming off a layoff from lots of competitions. It mainly arises from feeling under prepared, and that hurts your confidence, and then performance drops. The only way to minimize it is efficient practice and better preparedness, which builds back the confidence and trust required to reach peak performance. But you know this already ;) keep grinding mate. Cheers.

Lovely to hear the old theme tune again. Sadly no dancing. Very nice tribute to Ray Reardon, lived in Stoke for many years. He worked down the mines and also was a policeman. There is still a pub/snooker club called the Reardon in Stoke.

Always love a Sunday Morning Show! Kokrat is Canadian born so use to cheer for him before he vanished onto LIV 😀. Flags out is great fun and yes I totally play better that way! GoPro on the cart is a great idea. Thanks for sharing the Ray stories as well. Recently had one of those rounds myself where you’re guiding it around because you don’t have a shape that day. Glad you still battled as we all expect you to. When you “retire” I see you hanging around the first tee at a course and sharing stories about it to anyone who will listen! Cheers Dan!

I'm not sure what to call it but the part where Jordan popped in to mention the 4 iron lofts was brilliant. Sort of like a real time fact check/education element. Not sure if that could be incorporated more often but it added to the quality if that makes sense.

Dan to help, with your nerves , take a look at some of the Steve Peters videos or books, sounds like your Chimp is taking over !! All about the conscious mind and sub conscious mind and sounds like your conscious mind is taking over. I can highly recommend singing a song or nursery rhyme in your head as you step up to take your shot or what I do is just count to ten in my head and hit my shot as I’m counting. Try it honestly it works a treat.

Reflection is so important. Important to learn from however, not to only then be disappointed in what you’re reviewing.
Learn and program your brain not make the same mistakes again.
Reflecting which leads to self criticism and beating yourself up only allows the gremlins to multiply and you get even more fearful, compounding the errors.
Great tip about the pins out! I’m going to take that to our Junior Convenor.

It’s sometimes difficult to enjoy golf when you are competing especially when you set yourself expectations that sometimes might be beyond capability. As I’ve lowered my handicap I often find I don’t enjoy competitive golf as much as I used to as I am more bothered about my handicap at times rather than actually playing golf and enjoying it 😦

Wilson make some good equipment, especially their irons! Been using the D9 forged for a while now and have no plans to change. Great vlog - love the Sunday Morning Show - thinking about golf and building a business, it's a struggle to work on both given the business will always be your priority - ensuring you enjoy the golf and almost treating it as a 'holiday' helped freed me up hugely and seemed to improve my scores. Anyway, your swing still looks great so maybe just 'go for it'!!

Great SMS, and great job grinding in your tournament. To shoot that score not having your best stuff and butterflies over the ball is really impressive especially with no tournament reps. I know exactly how you felt I play in some senior league games and most of the time it’s a grind. It does pay off though it seems I grind through the first nine and then play better the back or the opposite is true and sometimes doing that I win my flight. Loved the original intro music

happy birthday Jane. Enjoyed the show as always. It is horrible feeling nervous the whole way round. Something I do when playing in competitions and sometimes with new people. It has got worse as my handicap has coming down into single figures. I suspect the only way to solve this is by playing in more competitions but sadly time does not allow for that if I want equilibrium in my marriage!!!

The competition you played and your scores +4 and +2. As a PGA Professional you expected better. I get it PGA Professional the expectation from most amateurs would be level or maybe under par. But I have had the luck to watch various Professionals playing local tournaments, not Tour Pros just club pros. The normal thing they say no matter how they play is "I don't play enough or practice" I think that would fit around you Dan, you do lots of other stuff, a family so practicing is probably not important for you. If it was Paul or James who are Tour Pros scoring +4 & +2 I would have said it was either Saunton Sands or Burnham & Berrow in high winds they were playing. Don't be too hard on yourself Dan. Enjoyed the show and the first outing of the Wilson's looked promising. Adapting from a Blade with the flight and going to CB with the higher flight I reckon you did great

Isn't the psychology of golf really interesting. The way you felt during the West of England shows that you were conscious of the quality of field and it mattered to you how you scored. This affected your ball striking because you were thinking of the outcome instead of playing golf. I have felt like that many times in amateur events and it's really destructive. The answer? I have no idea 😢
