Scarborough Fair was an annual event in Medieval times, one of the longest fairs, at 44 days during the summer in this important seaside town, where goods were imported from all over Europe, including red wine & cloth & exotic spices, with local produce, wool & Scarborough made pottery being exported to places all round the North Sea ports. The herbs, parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme had special associations with love, romance, & death. The songs dates back to the 14th century, when the Fair was at it's height.

Back when people actually had to have talent and ability to sing. Love this version.

Andy Williams vocals takes this already classic song to another level. One of the greatest male vocalists of all time

Andy Williams had a more trained voice, and the zing that he added to this live version was just perfect. I'm sure it was a highlight of his career to sing with Simon and Garfunkel.

I never would have thought that adding another voice to S&G would work but Andy is great and this version is gorgeous. Fabulous song, beautiful singing and playing and amazing harmonies.

I thought Art had an incredibly beautiful voice until I heard him with Andy Williams, who is some sort of alien, I think. I could listen to Andy all night long. And I might do it right now.

These guys were great. I suppose you remember that Andy is the guy that you were surprised harmonized with the Righteous Brothers so well, in 1965. Andy was another of those very great singers. You might listen to Andy's song from the movie "Exodus."

Nice reaction! I’m glad you liked this version of Scarborough Fair. You’re right that it’s not a “rocking out” song, but for those of us who grew up listening to it, I can tell you that it brings back many good memories for us. This was one of those songs you sat around a fire and sang, and we did, many times. Again, thanks for reacting to it.
    Enjoying your channel!

Finding such crack in’ numbers like this...plus the addition of the angelic sound of Andy Williams! One song I would love tou to react to,also on the Andy Williams Show, sometime around 1971, is When There’s No Love Left with The New Seekers.

I don't know who recorded it, but I'm really glad that the video that was broadcast in Japan remained!

Please do listen the original studio recording which also includes the harpsichord to really accentuate the medieval sound. This is the only live version where I have seen with Canticle (the secondary lyrics) included, as it appears on their studio recording and Greatest Hits collection.

Chad, some of my favorite reactions from you are Andy and Bobby and Bill. now add Simon and Garfunkel. I know how surprised you were at Andy's talent. One of the greatest of all time. Would like to hear more of Simon and Garfunkel.

That's pleasure! Paul and Art concert on central park, check it out and take a song blind, you can't fail! And Chad, please check out from LULU-SHOW (british singer, once married with Maurice Gibb), doin' a duet with him. The song is called 'First Of May', it's brilliant and overwhelming.

A small observation. Calling them Simon and Art sounds weird. It's Paul and Art or Simon and Garfunkel.
Scarborough Fair/Cantical brings back great memories. We sang it in my high school chorus. I like the cantical better than the main verse, and when I sing along with the song, that's the part I sing. I don't think you could hear it well in this version.
(Also, I just Googled the lyrics, and what popped up didn't have the right words for the cantical....)

My mam was in a small choir singing the "soldiers to kill etc" part and she used to get me to try practising singing it with her when I was a teenager. I had never noticed the war type lyrics to that part before then but it works beautifully and that is always the line I sing when I sing along.
